Big Hill auto was a very cost efficient repair shop for the small problem that my car had. This car was given to me by my father at the beginning of august with a broken hood latch. Unfortunately, the battery died and we were required to tow the car to this location because we tried (with no avail) to open the hood and replace it ourselves. My husband and I went to a junk yard and retrieved a hood latch that would fit this model of car and took it with us to the mechanic.
Once arriving, he was not the most friendly of individuals, but he was good at fixing cars. He also gave a large discount if you provided your own parts so that he did not have to order them. We stayed in the shop for about 30 minutes while he got the hood open to see what damage was actually done to the latch. He figured out that in order to replace the latch, he would have to remove the side panel of the car and run the cable all the way through the to interior of the car (which would have cost quite a bit more than the original quote that was given). Instead of doing the, he offered an alternate plan of action that would keep the price the same as the one he had quoted. To fix our problem, he ran a piece of metal from the latch out the side of the hood by the headlight that could be pulled in order to open the hood. Though this was not the most aesthetically pleasing work, it accomplished what was needed and only cost us 20 dollars. He also returned to us the latch that we had bought previously in case we decided later to actually replace the latch itself.
In addition to fixing the latch on the car, he was kind enough to recharge our dead battery overnight free of change. Overall, the experience I had at the repair shop was a good one, especially for the cost of fixing the car. I have yet to find another mechanic that was as cost effective as this one.
