I had filled out a form online stating what all I wanted cleaned, but was asked what I wanted cleaned once more. I stated: the living room, dining room, kitchen, bathroom and hallway. I did not want them in our basement or bedrooms, and thought that I had made that very clear. There seemed to be a bit of a language barrier that may have kept them from understanding completely, and this may be where a portion of the problem came in. I went to the basement office and spent the majority of my time down there.
I did go upstairs to check a couple of times. The first time, there was one maid in the bathroom working, and another in the kitchen. The second time I came up, there was one in the dining room, and the other in a bedroom sweeping. I was quite shocked,as I had instructed them to not do anything with the bedrooms, but didn't really know what to say especially with the language barrier and all. I used the bathroom, and went back downstairs. About 15 minutes later, they hollered down the stairs for me, so I went up to see what they needed. When I got up there, one of the maids was already on the porch, and the other (that seemed to be in charge) asked me to go over it. I did, and was quite happy with what they had done, and thought, well...they only swept the bedrooms, so maybe that wasn't so bad. I tipped them both $20 a piece, and they seemed quite happy with that.
Of course when they were there and I roughly went over the work, I didn't thoroughly inspect it as I have learned now I will. The dusting was done on the top surfaces of my living room coffee table and end tables, but not the shelves. The cabinets in the kitchen were not wiped down. And something I did not learn until that evening when I went to plug my cell phone into its charger was that the charger was missing. Now, giving them the benefit of the doubt I searched through the room to see if maybe it came unplugged and they just put it on one of the shelves in the room. I could not find it anywhere.
I did not call the business as I felt the service was cheap enough that the charger was not worth the hassle. I was quite disappointed after the cell phone charger incident though, and in my mind thought that maybe after a tip like the one I gave them each that they may feel guilty and maybe it would end up in my mailbox or on my porch sometime while I was at work.
I just joined Angie's List because I am in need once again of cleaning services and wanted to get the ratings of other area cleaning services, but also wanted others to be aware of the situation that I ran into with Wichita Maid Service. I know that things like this do not happen all of the time, but it does. Maybe after my review the charger will "mysteriously" reappear, and I may update my review. But until then, I will not trust a business that employs thieves.
