"Lyday Home Plumbing would like to apologize for your experience. Usually more organized. That person does not work for us any more."
The first time Lyday came, he was late, and then eventually rescheduled to another day, I believe 3 times they rescheduled. They said they would wave my $75 home warranty service charge for my trouble. Towards the end of this, they didnt and it cost me more money. For the plumbing, he said there isnt really any issues with this, and this is a sump pump problem. I believed that maybe one of my floor drain traps had rusted out. He cut a hole near the floor drain and said look, its fine. (he also cut into my floor drain...) I showed him that if you run water down the floor drain that the sump pump fills up with water. He said hmm well since the break isnt at this drain you need to pay someone with a camera and a locator to come out and locate the break because he wasnt convinced that it was a sewer line problem. Im thinking isnt that what the home warranty is paying you for?..... None of the home warranty plumbers had cameras, so I had to pay $185 to have a competitor plumber (not approved by the warranty) come and camera the line. He located the break and I had Lyday out again. Finally Lyday agreed that it wasnt a sump pump problem, it was a broken line. Proceeded to jack hammer out the floor in my basement, at its widest 3 feet, and roughly 10 feet long. I had mud and sand flung everywhere, gashes in the door to the utility room, and mud drug across the carpet and up the stairs. I wanted the rusted tee fitting and elbows fixed, but he didnt want to mess with any of that and did the bare minimum even when I said if it costs extra I want it done right. He made a HUGE deal about using the correct rubber fitting for going from cast iron to PVC below concrete, and at the end of the day I found out he used the wrong ones...... More on that later.
I said as a part of this please clean the sewer line so I know its good and clear. He had 2 helpers run a snake down the line. I said I have done this before, its almost exactly 75'. They refused to run the snake past 60 feet because a week prior one of them had gotten the snake stuck in the man hole in the back yard. Essentially they pushed all the crud part of the way through my line and slowed the line although not completely clogging it. Lyday said this sewer cleaning is not warrantied for 1 year like I normally do because I suspect your sewer line is damaged. A couple months later I came home to a minor flood in the basement, sewage... the line had completely clogged and I called the home warranty company to have someone out (What the heck was I thinking?) and they said well you owe Lyday $150 worth of service charges, and we refuse service until you pay your bill. Wait? What? First it was only $75 and second, it had been waved. They didnt care, Lyday wasnt answering the phone, so I paid $412 to have the line cleaned by a different plumber. The only response I had from the warranty and Lyday was that "the cleaning wasnt warrantied", but they could have cared less that I paid $412 to get it cleaned instead of $75. See where I am going with this? Had their paperwork been straight I would have had an extra $337 in my pocket right now.
This is when it gets fun, the plumber I had out to clean the line that was not cleaned well before asked me if I had done the work that Lyday had done. I said no and told him who did it. He goes oh man, I have to report this to the city, this doesnt pass inspection and started explaining why. He asked how was this work done without a permit and inspection? I said I did not know. I contacted the city and no permit was purchased, and no inspection was done. After all this, Lyday dropped it back in my lap and told me that they had been waiting on me to schedule an inspection that I knew nothing about. That makes no sense either because shouldn't you need a permit before doing the work? They would have had to lie to the city if they got the permit after doing the work because they had been waiting on me to schedule the inspection.... Maybe the city now allows plumbers to get a permit after doing the work... Their response does not pan out. I have also contacted Lyday via phone and email 10+ times and then they just now are telling me it was all my fault to begin with. They suggested I get a quote from a different plumber and they might pick up some of the costs. The quote cost me $50, they went through all the code violations that were committed and itemized out piece by piece all the costs. One thing that happened was Lyday removed the sump pump from the pit to get it out of the way and left it in the sand and mud and never hooked it back up. It got ruined laying with sand and it running, I had just replaced it the year before. I said there is an additional thing I think needs to be paid for as well. They told me the sump pump was not in the original scope and they are not responsible for it in any way. Yet Lyday was the one that removed it and didnt put it back?
Their settlement was to pay me $45 for the inspection/permit fee that they did not do, plus the cost to replace the rubber hubs. I doubt I see a nickel out of this guy without taking him to court. Everything they did they felt was to code, they never got a permit so they weren't being held responsible for the work done. The home warranty company paid Lyday $1000, and I paid an additional $800. I have scheduled another company to come fix his mess, and it looks like its going to cost an additional $3000 to fix. Icing on the cake was after I sent the quote to have the work done by someone else, it took me calling them countless times, and emailing them countless times. Each time an excuse, they didn't get my email, they had to talk with management (its run by 2-3 people I think), they were sick for a week, couldn't find it, email not loading. Always something. 3 weeks later I was essentially told "nope"
I'm sure Lyday will respond to this review with a bunch of shoulder shrugs and finger pointing, but you are the licensed plumber, I am not, and its your responsibility to follow the law for permit, inspection, and doing good work that is to code. I am in an industry that is held to strict codes and laws, and if I mess up, I get sued. The difference here is I make it right for my customer instead of attempting to be unaccountable for my actions. If you want your business to succeed, you better stop doing what your doing and start making your customers happy.
"Sorry for not responding sooner, I’ve been very busy. Thanks Angie. I am the master plumber that made 2 visits to this customer’s home. 1st, thank you sir for mentioning I was on time and the “B” rating, (his wife made the appointment for 9 am, I arrived at 8:56 am……. I hope you see where this is going.). 2nd, On January 8th, the day of this repair the customer had snow and ice on the driveway and the walkway going up to his front door. It was not safe and it was very cold. I tracked what ever I picked up from the foyer throw rugs into the kitchen hardwood floors. I apologized, removed my shoes and cleaned my mess before going any further. I asked the customer was everything satisfactory, and repeated the question before I left. He said everything was fine???? 3rd, if I mentioned I was a master plumber 3 times, it was in response to the customer’s rhetorical question, “water runs down hill doesn’t it?” He would ask a question, and then ask 2 more in the same breath. He seemed slightly nervous and admitted to knowing nothing about plumbing. I imagine this review is retribution for not listening to his insults. 4th, the washer that was warped and leaking was repaired in front of me by my apprentice on 12/19 almost 3 weeks ago. 5th, the sprayer head, part #920202A Price Pfister spout chrome is not made by Kohler. I told the customer the faucet has been modified, and because of this if the leak returns, the faucet should be replaced. 6th, and finally I was dispatched to this job by another company. No deductible was collected from this customer by our company. The spray head cost 45. Plus the minimum service call for this company keeps the costs around 100, not 198."
"Dear Customer, if that was your experience with us let me apologize. At no time did you express any feelings about these issues. You told my plumber he was very conscientious about his work and he was doing a good job so if there was a misunderstanding we truly apologize. However, the plumber did tell you the leak in the bathroom was from the missing grout on the tile walls and that is why you ok'd the new fiberglass walls he put up. The sewer leak in the basement was plugged with a new expansion plug and did have evidence of tampering because the seal was damaged, so he removed it and replaced it with another one at no charge. The drywall around the tub for the walls I am sorry but yes you had to get another contractor to finish because he is a plumber not a dry wall person. That was discussed with you before any work began. The plumber also came back after the dry wall was replaced and cleaned out the tub and bathroom area and confirm nothing else was leaking. For arriving late, sometimes appointments take longer then anticipated but we did call you ahead of time and inform you of the situation so you would not waste the day waiting around. In plumbing things do not always go as planned and the plumber can not leave until the job is completed and facilities are restored. The plumber gave a report to the adjuster for the sewer leak in the basement and the leak in the tile walls of the bathroom, however he would not tell the adjuster that the shower valve was leaking when it wasn't. Lyday Home Plumbing is a honest family owned and operated business which is compliant to all city regulations and is subject to fines and punishment if found to commit fraud. We apologize if this caused you any inconvenience. As for price concerns over $600 was parts and labor was 3 days with 2 technicians. I do not know of any other company in town that would do that amount of work for that price. Once again we apologize if you were not satisfied with your service and God Bless you and have a great day."
