My 2001 Chevy Trailblazer died and would not start in Autozone's parking lot last August when it was 108 degrees outside. I had stopped to get antifreeze and other automotive products. The sales people pushed my car out of the way of other traffic. Then, the manager went for gasoline thinking I might be out of gas because my gas guage was not working properly . It still would not start. I had to call for a tow truck and had the vehicle delivered to my home.
sWe had been having problems with it dying at odd moments, in odd places, but never had trouble getting it started again. I called several mechanics and learned the cost of repair would be well over $600. We had already poured a fortune into this piece of junk although when we bought it, it only had 3000 miles on it. Shortly after purchasing the vehicle the 'check engine soon' light came on. I took it to the dealership, they couldn't find anything wrong with it. I took it to the mechanic I had been using twice but he couldn't find anything wrong, said the light must be defective. I took it to another Chevy dealership after I had called the main Chevrolet office. They were not supposed to charge me for diagnostics because I had the extended warranty but it didn't cover my problem. That cost $400.00. I had used one mechanic exclusively until after I had taken the Blazer to them for diagnostics. They thought they found what was wrong with it and charged me $200.00 for diagnostics, kept my vehicle for 10 days and used 3/4 tank of gasoline. They came up with the decision that my vehicle needed a part that would cost $600 alone, the labor would be another $700. The desk jockey showed us a picture of the part we needed, and as we were discussing the rarity of this happening, one mechanic came in and said he had never seen a part like that before in all his years and couldn't wait to tear my motor down to install it. That's when I decided they would not be tearing into MY vehicle. This company has two locations in Wichita, both are very large and very busy.
So, my Blazer sat in the driveway for five months. My husband and I are too old to be working on cars now although we'd done it for the past 40 years. I decided to call Auto Zone, whom I deal with exclusively, and asked if they could recommend a reliable mechanic, one that wouldn't experiment on my vehicle and charge me for parts that 'didn't do the trick'. They were glad to. They gave me directions to H D Automotive at 1501 West Douglas, which was very close to my home. My husband and I went to visit their establishment and were treated with great respect. The owners are Asian, therefore I cannot pronounce their names. Mr. HD listened as I explained what had happened to my vehicle, my attempts to get it repaired and what a circus it had been. He paid full attention to me and repeated everything I had said to him. Then he told me and quot;No problem. I fix car very good for youand quot;. I had a gut feeling that this man was the mechanic I had been searching for. We drove home and called a tow truck to have the Blazer taken to his garage. The tow truck arrived and I went outside to give the driver the company's name and address. He replied and quot;Oh, he does a great job. No one but HD works on my cars. I know right where to deliver your Blazer.and quot; I went down later to give him my name, address, and phone number. He was very gracious, opening the door for me, seeming to be very happy to be working on my car. He again said he would fix my car very good.
I cannot remember the exact date I had it towed to his garage, but he called me on Saturday at 10:00 am, told me the fuel pump was going out and it was failing intermittently. He said the cost would be $435.00 plus tax. I gave him the go ahead to repair it. He said he would repair it and have it done the same day. He called about four hours later and said the car was ready to be picked up. My husband and I drove down to get it. The cost was $435.00 plus tax and we have a five year warranty on the fuel pump. Most amazing of all was that my and quot;check engine soonand quot; light was finally off. He had replaced the gasoline he used during the road tests. I presented my credit card and the transaction was completed.
He explained he was very honored to work on my vehicle and hoped I would come back. I most certainly will! I finally have a mechanic I can trust, won't experiment on my car, knows what he is doing, is very gracious and did not ignore me because I am an old woman.
I have worked with and have hired Asian people and I find they are very hard working and brutally honest in their dealings. I am taking my old Lincoln in next for repair. I told him I would be bringing it in at the end of January and he said he would be very pleased and honored to work on my car. I am very pleased and honored he was referred to me and no one else is touching my vehicles.
I would recommend him to anyone for any repair. I know he can fix the car or truck very good.
