They arrived an hour late and during the packing process I was told they had another job in Austin. When explaining what I had been told they said the owner added the other job and was unwilling to honor what I had previously been told. This placed my items at the back of their non-water tight truck where rain water poured over about 60% of my boxes. (Ironically they had me move all fluid items to protect my items from possible damage.) So to recap so far, the company was paid double milage, did not honor their promise of only my items on the truck and placed them in a leaky truck.
These however were not the only issues. When my wet boxes arrived with dirt from their truck they left stains on my carpet, completely fell apart, (by the way all packing boxes and material were brand new and purchased through GAMO) with items soaking wet - clothes and bedding/pillows that had to be washed and dried prior to sleeping after a 9 hour drive. In addition to the wet clothes, they were piled on top of my shoes which were thrown in the bottom of the box that not only got smashed, the water caused bleeding of colors all over each other. Multiple items from the bedroom were smashed, damaged and/or broken due to their packing. One item was a curtain rod with ribbons containing over 100 pair of earrings (mostly fish hook) that had been placed at an angle in a box on top of a braided burlap fabric hanger and a jute plant hanger. Not only were the earrings tangled in the box with necklaces thrown in, this was a water damaged box with a hole in the bottom. I still can't match all my earrings and am not sure how to tell what's lost /missing.
After contacting GAMO and sharing pictures of some of the damage, I asked for a full or even partial refund. I was advised by the owner that they do not offer refunds and to file a claim. He had no response or reaction to the pictures which is unsettling to say the least. Luckily I purchased full replacement insurance however still do not have any type of resolution from them.
The only positive thing I can say is about one of the packers/movers by the name of Dom. He was friendly and the items he packed were all done with care. Although most of the boxes he packed were wet, with wet items inside, nothing was broken. Based on the owner's nonchalant attitude and overall outcome to date, I would not recommend this company to anyone.
"The events of this move we're unfortunate. To start, the customer was given a quote that fit into her budget strictly because we as a moving company sometimes combines jobs in order to offer a discounted service to a customer. At the time of confirmation of the requested job, this was the only job scheduled to be on the truck. However, when an opportunity to add additional jobs to a truck at a reasonable cost to another customer arises, we take that opportunity. The fact that none of the items were mistaken with another customers items is because we build what is known in the moving industry as a "bulkhead" which is a series of aluminum bars and plywood to create a new wall in the truck completely separating one shipment from another. The unfortunate thing about this move was that a leak did develop in the truck. Our trucks are inspected regularly, however, our trucks drive through neighborhoods every day with low hanging trees and take quite a bit of abuse from those trees. In this instance we did not realize the truck had a leak, and as a company, we take full responsibility for that occurrence. Experience tells me that a lot of the packing issues were created due to the wetness of the boxes and the instability that causes in cardboard. It is not our policy to offer refunds AND compensation for a damage claim which is what the customer requested. We will be making a substantial payment to the customer, a payment that nullifies any profit from these jobs and puts the job at a significant loss, however, Get A Move On is committed to being fair and honest with our customers and this is no exception."
Get A Move On is trying to detract from the truth by discrediting me with disparaging, slanderous comments and falsifying the events of what took place.
Mike Johnson, Allison Bruch and Eric Kimler, in three separate testimonies, accused me of accusing Jennifer Pitt of stealing my safe and jewelry. Jennifer has written a testimony that says I never accused her of stealing anything. Jennifer was out of the USA during my move. Jennifer also said I was not combative as Eric Kimler previously stated. If I had felt the need to be combative during the interview, I would have never hired GAMO. Jennifer also had her things in the house and she wasn't sure which things to have GAMO move. Jennifer will also attest that she was with me through the whole interview and GAMO was very aware of all the things that needed to be moved from the house and the garage. Even two Ceramic kilns were to be moved by GAMO, but I decided to move them myself. There was also a couch that they were supposed to move, but I decided to leave it. So, they actually moved less than what was talked about during the interview.
Mike Johnson stated in his testimony that I had a large shed that I didn't tell them about during the interview and they moved everything. That is a lie. I took one of the movers with me to the barn. He and I grabbed one saddle, a bike and a few shovels and it all fit in the back of the ATV 3'x4' space and only took 10 mins. Mike Johnson also said I cussed at the movers over and over... That is also a lie. Mike Johnson was not present during the move. Most of the 6 movers were courteous and hard workers. Only one was not nice...he had dreadlocks and was throwing things around and talked back to me when I asked him to take the round glass table and put on the truck. Another mover, I won't say his name, but he told me along with all the movers listening Saturday that he had gone through a tough time and it was either go to prison for killing a man or start smoking. I thought that was an inappropriate comment and wondered why he felt the need to tell me. He was also the one that packed my jewelry box (he was not told to pack it) Two rings and diamond ear rings were taken from it. He also would not look me in the eye after I told GAMO that my safe was missing.
I was NOT supposed to have three trucks or 6 movers. I called the night before the move and told GAMO that the basement flooded and I needed more packing material. They said that they would bring more packing material and an extra guy to help pack. I was very surprised that GAMO sent 6 movers from the 4 talked about during the interview. GAMO was only going to have one truck until we talked about my fragile plaster molds, only then did they say they would add a second truck just for the molds and only stack them 2 high on a soft padding and charge me an extra $500.00 for the molds which brought the total amount for the move to $2,580. I found my molds stacked 5 boxes high in the storage unit and many of them had fallen over.
The movers were using small trucks and taking a load then coming back. I had to stay at the house to supervise the loading. The movers never asked me to go with them since they knew I had to stay at the house. Eric Kimler keeps saying that I refused on many occasions to accompany them to storage...that is another lie. He also said that they only packed on Saturday...another lie. They loaded my things on the truck in the rain. I found my wardrobe boxes in storage saturated to the point they just fell apart. My clothes were soaked and ruined. GAMO left early Saturday because of the rain.
Eric Kimler also states delivery was "tricky" that they had three full (small) trucks (their idea) and three different locations (one was their idea). The house is out in the country and I found a close storage unit straight down the road in Augusta. When GAMO on arrived at the house Saturday, the first thing they said was that I should have climate control storage (their idea) for my leather and wood furniture. They recommended one at Oliver and 21st a long way away from the house. GAMO was also suppose to take a piano and only a piano to my parents house in Viola. They took a nice two piece wood bench and upper storage shelf, didn't wrap it and left it on it's end on the cement patio at my parents in the rain. It is now all nicked up, paint missing and ruined.
When I got to the climate control storage, I found many boxes up-side-down and looked as though they were just tossed in a mess and they were NOT supposed to be in climate control. I also found my Sleep Number mattress loose on the cement floor all dirty and not wrapped. GAMO put things in climate control that should have been in regular storage. And nice wood and leather furniture that was supposed to be (by their recommendation) in regular storage. One of the nice leather chairs was placed high over my head on a metal shelving unit and not even sitting square on the frame. I have 146 pictures that show how GAMO delivered my items to storage. The pictures show the missing items and all the broken and damaged items.
GAMO held my things on the last truck until I paid them. When I went to pick up my keys from GAMO and question the bill of $8,907.62 instead of $2580.00, Eric Kimler kept saying over and over that it was a fair price for the work. He also said they were not responsible for any lost or stolen property. He never asked for my email to send a claim form either. He said, "We are done!". It took me a month and half to go through my four storage units and move everything to their appropriate temp storage, to document the damage and look for my jewelry box that was NOT supposed to be packed by GAMO. I then called Eric Kimler to tell him I found my jewelry missing and I would be filing a report with the US Attorney General. Eric Kimler hung up on me.
"I've waited a while to respond because i wanted to respond with a clear head and waited until all the facts were present. Our company started dealing with this particular customer April 29th, 2015. During the estimate, the customer was very combative and indecisive about the items that were going. we did the best we could, came up with a reasonable estimate of the expectations and confirmed the move. The day before the move, the customer called the office. told us that packing wasn't done, and that there were extra items in a barn we were not shown. We decided collectively to add an extra crew and an extra truck to the job. The customer understood that our estimate is just that... an estimate. Like any other company, if the expectations of the job changes, so will the price. The first day of the move was nothing but packing, packing that wasn't expected but was done efficiently and carefully by our crew. At a point in the second day of moving (only was supposed to take 1 day, and this was during a busy period for us), we were accused of stealing a safe. Our movers instantly stopped and recommended that the customer called the police. The police arrived, took our accounts of what we knew, were there for 2 hours (which was not charged to the customer, although the movers were being paid), the police then came to our office, looked through our security footage and checked our GPS on our vehicles. We were cleared as to the extent that could be done. The delivery process was rather tricky. We had 3 full trucks of items, going to 3 different locations within the Wichita area, one 10 miles east of town, a centrally located storage, and one about 20 miles to the east of town. The customer REFUSED on many occasions to accompany us to the delivery. The items that were left outside were directed by the authorized persons at that site, the east side storage, the customer wanted items in 2 of the 3 storage units, however the only keys that were given were of one of the wanted storage units and the one that wasn't supposed to be used. After numerous attempts to contact the customer, the movers used their best judgement in determining how to put the items into the storage. The 3rd storage site, the movers attempted to deliver the items, however the customer's code didn't work and we were forced to go into a 3rd day with the move. The 3rd day, the movers unloaded the items into the storage unit, again without the customer present, even though there were multiple attempts to do so. The 4th day, the customer came to our office, we returned the keys to the storage units and discussed the price of the move. Customer was unreasonable and claimed to have had damage. Customer also admitted to going through the items in the storage which damage occurred. We offered to come back the next day and situate some items and also move some items which had been apparently stored at a wrong location, but the customer called and left a message at 11:00 pm which stated she didn't want our services anymore. There was attempts to get an email address as to send a claim form, but the customer has not obliged us to go through our claims process. After 2.5 months, the customer has revoked her credit card charges and officially to this date has paid us $0.00. As saddened and troubled as i am that she had a bad experience with our company, i have no choice but to stand by our movers and the understanding that with drastically different expectations come a difference in price. We are completely dedicated to customer satisfaction, our reputation is important as well as our commitment to providing a good product and a great service to the community. Those aren't just things we say, but it's what our organization is founded upon. If any of our customers or potential customers wanted to talk to us about this situation or any others, they are absolutely encouraged to contact our office @ 316-262-2123."
"[removed member name], I've been checking through some of the reviews here on Angie's list. I noticed that you may have had an unpleasant expierience with our company. I would really enjoy some feedback on the matter. I have been an employee of Get A Move On since 2004, however i just purchased the name and assets in February of this year. We've changed some of our hiring practices and made a few tweaks to some of the ways we handle moves both internally and on the job site. I hope to hear from you so we can assess what problems you might have had during your expierience so we as a company can learn and grow from them. Thanks in advance, Eric Kimler Get A Move On"
move ahead of time, The workmen were very cooperative with our wishes,
and didn't waste any time. My only complaint is the final price was
quite a bit more than the estimate.
"Thanks for the good review. We normally tell customers we will be there between 8 and 8:30 in case of traffic, or if we have to get fuel. Sorry for the misunderstanding."
"We are normally very good about responding to complaints. I have asked everyone in our office, and no one remembers getting a call about missing weights from a move that took place 1 year ago. There are other possibilities for the whereabouts of the weights besides having been left on truck. We always repair walls when accidents happen, so I am unsure why this wasn't taken care of."
