They are excellent. They showed up right on time. They did not stop for rest or for cigarette. They just worked. They worked hard and do not quit.
I reached out to Curtis at A-Plus after reading the reviews here. As discussed in other reviews, I had to leave a message, but had a quick call back. We agreed to meet for a quote a couple of days later at a certain time. The time came and went with no call or appearance by Curtis. I called and texted him and finally got a text back saying that he had an emergency and would contact me right away. Long story short, I made 14 attempts to connect with him over the ensuing week. He often didn't even respond. When he did, it was to promise a call back, which never happened. Finally, he got back to me a week later with lame excuses about family emergencies. I say lame excuses because he had other people working for him, but NO ONE could even be bothered to call me back! He finally came out and looked at our whole home in detail. He told me how everyone else was overbidding me and he could do it for "no more than $400 to $450" and wrote me a quote to that end.
He assured me that I would be "amazed" at their service. He even went so far as to let me know he was coming out on my move personally to make sure I was.
On the 8th, they showed up as planned and began loading. Things seemed ot be going well. They were moving quickly and loading like crazy. Then, a loud noise is heard from the basement stairs and he calls for my wife (I was at our new house with other vendors getting it ready). He tells her that the desk (less than 2 years old) that was laying in pieces on the stairs was poorly made and shoddily put together and thats why it BROKE IN HALF! It didn't break at a joint... it broke in half. Clearly, this was an issue in the moving, not with the item.
When he delivered our $600 book case, he told he how poorly put together it was and that's why ALL of the cam locks and other joints were ripping out of the wood. I put that piece together myself and am an experienced woodworker. It was put together perfectly and I TIGHTENED all the joints myself in advance of the move to be sure. I later figured out it was damaged because ONE PERSON tried to move a heavy bookshelf by dragging it around. It overstressed the joints and destroyed the piece.
He also destroyed an antique couch table that I had moved myself twice successfully.
After they were done, we discovered that walls in both houses had been gouged and scratched in the move.
In the new house, they just dropped things in rooms (not even the right room many times, despite praising our labeling of the boxes for the rooms they belonged in. They also just threw things in the storage room, which took me a day to move everything back out and put it in an organized fashion. One thing I discovered 5 days later when I was able to get to it was that they had destroyed a chair that had belonged to my great grandmother (over 100 years old, built solid as a rock). They had clearly dragged it so hard that they BROKE THE LEG IN HALF... not at a joint... IN HALF. Then, they hid it in the back of the room propped together to look like it wasn't broken.
When I called to complain, he didn't return my call for four days. Then, he told me I was beyond his "claim period." He never disclosed a claim period or policy. In fact, I never signed any policies at all. He had a hand-written invoice and quote on office-depot forms. No terms or conditions at all.
On top of all of it, his "NO MORE THAN $400" became $650! His excuse: It didn't look like this much.
I am disgusted. I have had to repair so many things and throw away over $1,000 worth of furniture that was beyond repair. He was totally non-responsive. But, I have to take accountability for even using him after I had to chase him down to get the bid even written. It was horrid and I would only recommend him to my wife's ex-husband out of spite... not to anyone else!
They arrived in 23 minutes. Movers can be delayed so I had no problem with the 30 minute delay. They were very friendly and efficient.
