My dog appeared to be in pain, so I made the difficult decision to have him put to sleep. I did not want to risk causing him any more discomfort by trying to get him in the car and take him to a veterinarian, so I checked Angie's list to find a vet who made housecalls, and found the information for Topeka Home Veterinary Service. Dr. Beuerlein fit us into the schedule that same afternoon, and arrived right on time. He was very gentle with Baxter, and he took care of all of the arrangements for cremation. If I ever have more pets, I am going to have him to care for them from the start. I would highly recommend his services.

I called him and left a message that I needed to make an appointment to have our 19 year old cat put to sleep due to numerous health issues.  He returned my call promptly (as usual), talked me through what the process entailed, and answered all my questions without making me feel hurried or stupid.  When the time came, he showed up on schedule and was very understanding and calm.  He gave her a sedative and then I requested a moment alone with her.  When I said I was ready, he came back in the room and gave her the final injection on my cue.  I cried the whole time but he was very sympathetic and left discretely so that we could have our final time with our cat.  I have never had a bad experience with Dr. Beuerlein.  My first experience with him was when I called to have him examine my sister's German Shepard who I thought looked too skinny.  This was not an easy task since they lived on a farm and the dog was very timid.  He gained her trust by not making eye contact and letting her scope him (and the inside of his van) out for quite a while while he talked to us about her health history.  When we were able to capture her ourselves, he worked with her quietly and quickly.  He tested her for parasites and heartworm (if I remember right), gave her vaccinations, and determined that she was in good health.  I asked why he thought she was thin and he thought it was just from her being an outdoor farm dog.  He didn't try to do an exorbitant number of tests or sell us a bunch of stuff we didn't need.  I've also referred him to others and received nothing but positive reports back.

My appointment with Joe was easy to fit into my schedule. He arrived at the scheduled time after I got home from work. He was there a total of 16 minutes. He looked over my cat, told me what the problem likely was and went out to his van to get the antibiotics. At first I thought that a $20 trip charge was kind of pricey but after this appointment and how smooth it went I will NEVER do it any other way. It was so nice not to have to haul my cat (who hates to go in the car anyway), wait for my previous vet to "get to me", and then haul my cat back home. THIS WAS THE BEST EXPERIENCE WITH A VETERINARIAN THAT I HAVE EVER HAD!
