However, when I called this time and asked for the same person, he was in another position, so a different rep. came to our home a few days later to look at the damage. This rep. did not provide timely follow-up on revised estimates, selection of roofing materials and answers to issues that we needed to resolve regarding their estimates and the insurance company's estimate. This lack of follow up was causing delays in getting our repairs done.
I called and asked for another representative and he came out to look at damage, but the follow up and follow through was still very frustrating. I couldn't fine out the status of our order for the shingles or when repairs would be done. I finally contacted the owner/manager by email and explained to him the situation and lack of good customer service, but he never responded to me. However, the rep did contact me to let me know he had contracts for us to sign and could then give me an approximate date for the repairs. This was five (5) months after our initial call to Faith Roofing to get our homes repaired. We were fortunate that we did not have significant rainfall or storms during that time to cause additional damage. It took another month for the repairs to get done.
The quality of the materials and workmanship appear to be good, but it took six months to get our homes repaired. We tried to be patient because there were many homes in the area with roof damage from that storm. I even called some other roofing companies during this time to see if we could get someone else to do the repairs and several told me that they were not taking on any new customers so they could take care of current customers. Meanwhile, I was seeing Faith Roofing TV commercials about their great service to try to get more customers when it appeared to me that they couldn't take care of the ones they had!
"I apologize greatly for the lack of timely job start and completion. Being in a storm market there is a lot of pull on finite resources. We wanted to pull our television commercial in that year, but have contracts with the stations not to do this. I hope that you have enjoyed your new roof the last few years and I apologize for your inconvenience. I will say that through the learning experience of 2011, we are currently working with storm damage and are successfully completing projects within 3 weeks of initial contact. Thank you for your feedback. Sincerely, Brent Boman President Faith Roofing Company"
When they arrived, there was no real manager of the job. It was just a bunch of temporary day laborers who were unskilled at the job that did the actual work. They had no pride in the work nor were they monitored. The "supervisor" walked around on the ground and didn't ever actually go up onto the roof.
When the job was completed, we had numerous leaks. When we called to complain, they sent out their "fix-it" guys who fixed numerous mistakes. It took either 3 or 4 trips out to our home for them to finally get the skylights to stop leaking. I have no idea if our drywall on the ceiling is messed up or not.
No one seems to be the least bit interested in the quality of work or customer satisfaction.
DO NOT hire this company.
** Update ** Early June 2012
After yet another rain, we awoke to find a horrible leakage mess from a sky light. The drywall is ruined and will need to be replaced. The SPLATTER from the ceiling texture and water had a 6 foot radius in my foyer and is all over my antique bookcase and hardwood flooring and rug.
We have also found a leak from the fireplace chimney in the basement. This is a nightmare!!! Nearly a year of trying to get this matter resolved, and we are still fighting with these people. And they had the audacity to call me to request that I change my review of them.
**Update** June 21, 2012
After an extended discussion, Faith Roofing FINALLY installed the flashings that they neglected to install for the 3 skylights. It would appear that this has solved the skylight leakage problem. They also replaced the flashing around the chimney that, too, was leaking. Unfortunately, other flashings are leaking now, and we have more damage. We have enlisted the assistance of our insurance company in hopes of having all of the rest of the leaking flashings replaced. Faith is also offering only to paint ONE wall of our home instead of doing the right thing.
"Faith Roofing Company would like to take time to apologize for the distress you mentioned we put you through during this roofing project. We appreciate and value our customers. If there is anything we can do to help mend your negative thoughts and feelings towards our company. Please contact us at our office 1-855-234-9766."
The office staff was professional and provided a great deal of information on the shingle types, costs and colors. They were most helpful and I was pleased with their service. If there were damages to the roof other than the shingles needing to be replaced because of leaks in the home, we didn't know because the work was done so quickly (stripping the old shingles and putting on the new) that we weren't sure that the workmen were looking for damages.
"Faith Roofing would like to take time to apologize for the unfinished job you mentioned above. As I attempted to pull your file I found that you were not filed as one of our customers which could be the reasoning behind why we never came back out, as well as why you did not receive a bill for the small repairs we had done. I am terribly sorry about this. Our customers are very important to us,as well as their satisfaction. If there is anything we can do for you today to help mend this issue, please contact us at 1-855-234-9766."
"We regret our oversight in not issuing a workmanship warranty to the customer and intend to issue this warranty. However the address of the project is not the address listed in this complaint. We are unable to issue this warranty for a different address. We request that the customer contact us to discuss this discrepancy. Faith Roofing Company, 2900 NW Button Rd., Topeka, KS. 785-266-3030 Please ask for Jesse."
"There was an unfortunate delay in the production of this customer's roof. Faith Roofing worked diligently to hire additional crews that were qualified to complete our projects to the high standard we require. We are working with the homeowner's insurance company to resolve the additional material & labor costs incurred. Mr. Boman has been in contact with the homeowner to discuss the status of the claim."
I have many friends who had Faith doing their work in the past and all had only glowing praise for Faith Roofing. These personal endorsements, from people I respect is the only reason I move them to the top of my list. I awarded the contract to Faith Roofing really on faith and not because of personal experience.
Now that the job has been completed I am glad that I acted on the recommendations of my friends. There were some communication difficulties with the installation crew, but their work was great. They completed the job in one day and the attention to detail was outstanding. The roof looks great and the fact that they even painted the sewer and furnace vents to match the roof was a detail that was not expected. Their contractor for the guttering was here the following day. I know many individuals whose roofer did not do the guttering and they are having to wait weeks for guttering after their roof is completed. That is a nice touch and since the guttering was only 5 years old, I had a cost comparision that showed me Faith Roofing price was fair.
Upon receiving the bill, I had the ability to donate a portion of their profit to a charity of my choice. That was an added touch that showed me they were interested in our community. I doubt if there are many other roofing companies who do that with their business model.
AFTER A LESS THAN STELLAR START, I WILL SAY THE FINISH JOB WAS STELLAR.
FAITH ROOFING SHOULD DEFINITELY BE ON YOUR LIST OF GREAT ROOFERS.
My project manager established expectations with me regarding the timeline for the roof and the gutters and was unable to fulfill the expectation, specifically with the gutter. I admit disappointment but my disappointment was significantly enhanced by his repeated failure to keep me informed and his consistent disregard for returning my phone calls. Twice I called the company who contacted him about my need to hear from him.
The crew that did my roof left nails, a shingle bundle wrapper, roofing felt and shingles in my yard. The aforementioned trash was conspicuously in plain sight and the nails were each in a blue plastic ring about the size of a gallon milk container lid, which made them easily visible. A tool was also left on my roof. My thinking was that cleanup could have been better.
The roofing crew drove into my neighbors yard and left ruts. Accidents happen but they left without mentioning the issue to anyone. My neighbor spoke with me about the matter because he said he had attempted to contact the company and his calls were not returned. I called my project manager and left a message encouraging him to contact my neighbor. The settlement with my neighbor became very convoluted, to include innuendos at one point that I should pay my neighbor and the company would reduce my overall bill. The matter appeared to be handled in a unprofessional manner from start to finish.
I have no cleanup issues with the crew that did my gutter.
I think my last frustration with this company is that each time my phone calls were not returned or an expectation was not met I was enlightened as to how busy they were.
"Faith Roofing Company would like to apologize for the fact you did not get contacted by our company in as timely of a manner as needed. There also should not have been any reason for the debris and remains which were left at the site of this roofing project. Again, I apologize. If there is anything we can do to help to help resolve your negative feelings towards our company do not hesitate to contact us 1-855-234-9766."
Overall, I was very pleased with the experience. I would hire them again.
Do follow directions from your insurance company. Do contact at least two or three contractors after checking them out on Angie's List, asking friends about companies, and observing who is doing roofing jobs around town (Faith were doing quite a few around our area). I felt the size of the company (number of crews working in the area) says something about their success. The lowest bid may not be the best. Keep notes on all contacts and information that is given to you. Be pleasant but firm during these contacts. Be prepared for changes in plans - not uncommon on jobs affected by weather conditions. If you can't communicate with the crew chief for any reason, contact the company and request help.
Faith Roofing provided a detailed assessment form I filled out and returned on completion of the job. I would expect this from any reputable contractor.
