Everything went smoothly without a hitch. They came, assessed repairs, provided a timely quote and provided services in a timely manner without pushing to just get it done. Always acted professionally.

I thought it went pretty well. Things moved along fairly smoothly, with some minor delays. I expected delays so it wasn't so bad when I'd get notified that things would be put off a day or two. I generally was kept informed what was going on, what was next, any problems they were having, etc. A few of our things were damaged when moving the furniture. Now that we're using our basement and putting it back together, I did find that the painting looked a little shoddy in a few places (dried drips on the wall). Overall I think the work was well done, and when we found a problem with the bathroom vinyl flooring, they replaced it no charge. I enjoyed working with Gabe, the project manager. I thought the price was a bit expensive, but my other estimates were in the same range.

I don’t really remember the cost. My insurance paid for it. They billed the insurance company directly. They were very good. It was very good.

They replaced the floor and the wood trim. They also replaced the carpet in the adjoining bedroom. They are very good; the only reason I would not use them myself is that they are a little out of my price range.

It was absolutely horrible. It's probably was experience was based on the fact that I was suffering because I have allergies and we stayed in the house after the fire so smoke and all the things they had use to clean and refinish. I probably should have just left the house and go and live in the hotel or something but I didn't. So, I was very uncomfortable and I just didn't like the people that they sent out. They had a young woman that was assigned to us and she was very nice but she was young and probably just starting out in the business and she was relying on her older man that worked there. I was very unhappy and they were downright rude at times. They had a couple of men who were deaf and they were so nice and they were the nicest people. The guy that did the painting was top notch but the tile guy kept demanding payment and my insurance adjuster said we do not pay them until they've completed the work to our satisfaction. Finally when they finished we paid and insurance company was very forthright and paid them and we paid them. I would never use them again.

Don't use them at all is the best advice I can give you. Estimates are inaccurate. When brought to their attention, they change the estimates. Then when you are ready to do the work and they give you another bid, the price changes again (and you are on the line for 50% more than you were led to believe a job would cost). Classic bait and switch, do not be fooled. Then, when you expect them to honor the price you have been quoted, they won't. The mistakes were on the part of the employees, but company will not honor them. They expect consumer to pay the price for their incompetencies. What a racket! I thought they were supposed to be the professionals. Sadly, not. Professionals don't hide behind email and voicemail. Professionals own up to their mistakes and deal with the consequences. Sadly, not the case here. I don't know about you, but if I make a mistake in my business, I have to own those consequences and deal with what it will cost me. This company, and the owner Mark, in particular, do not seem to care about their accountability. Actions and consequences. I thought midwestern people were "stand -up" quality people who honor their word. Not so in this case!

Phoenix appears to be working directly for the insurance companies.   All of Phoenix' communications go through the insurance company and the insurance company was the one who suggested Phoenix do the work.  There were delays in the job and Phoenix told the insurance company, I was responsible for those delays.  Phoenix direct billed the insurance company.  Phoenix claims I owe $2,800.  I have asked for a detailed bill from Phoenix and a copy of all of the receipts.  Phoenix said they agreed to accept the estimate from the insurance company so they don't need to send me a direct bill.  Phoenix was paid for work whether it was done or not.  The estimate from the insurance company was inflated, i.e. 150 sq feet of carpeting for 2 - 3 foot closets, I paid both a water restoration company and Phoenix for two dump trucks to haul away the debris (approximately $500).  I paid both the water restoration company and Phoenix for moving the range and refrigerator, which was pulling out and pushing back in approximately $120.   Phoenix said the laminate flooring had to sit in the house for 7 days to acclimate to the temperature of the house.  The manufacturer said 72 hours.  Phoenix left the flooring in the boxes for 3 weeks before it was delayed and then told the insurance company, I had caused the delay.  Phoenix billed any extras directly to State Farm.   State Farm cut a check to the bank and to my company.  The bank applied all payments to the notes on the property.
Response from Phoenix Renovation & Restoration Inc
"• Phoenix originally received the claim for a water loss on a rental property on January 9, 2015. We worked directly from the insurance adjusters estimate. • Contract was eventually signed by the property owner on 3-2-15. Work started 3-5-15. Work completed per contract by 4-15-15. • Phoenix did not direct bill the insurance company. The property owner and mortgage company were paid directly by her insurance company and the property owner was to pay us. • Cost for the structure repairs was $14,333.70 per insurance estimate; Phoenix’s final bill to property owner was $11,189.68, which is less than what the property owner was paid by her insurance company. • Property owner was provided a detailed invoice and breakdown in April. • Phoenix is not paid in full. Property owner still owes $2196.00. (6 months past due)."

There was only 1 minor issue (trim on baseboards in kitchen did not match the baseboard very well) after the hardwood guys finished sanding and restaining and finishing the hardwoods, and Brooks himself came out and restained the trim so the trim matched the baseboard.  I am very picky, and I can vouch that Brooks/Phoenix did an excellent job.  Friends and relatives who saw the house when it was torn up now tell me when they see the finished work "I never thought things would be back the same, but it all looks terrific."  I also asked Brooks to keep the project moving along, because my Dad was here from out of town, and Brooks would have the next group ready to go as soon as the current group was done.  My only concern is that the carpet (in all fairness, I did have the whole house re-carpeted, not just the affected areas) "crew" consisted of only one guy who did all the work by himself and it took a whole week to get done.  But that is more of a reflection on the subcontractor and not Phoenix themselves.
In summary, I would give Phoenix/Brooks an A+ grade if that were available, because they did such a terrific job.  I would not hesitate to hire them again, especially if Brooks was to be in charge of the project.

We had a house fire in March of 2014. Phoenix was brought in with our insurance company to discuss the details of the home and getting us on track to be back home. Phoenix and our insurance company posed a and quot;bait and switchand quot; scheme to use saying that if we wanted it done right we would hire Phoenix. Phoenix's guy that was out at our home stated all the things that they would do to make the house amazing. Construction didn't begin on our home until May 22, 2014. Days and weeks would go buy before someone would be at the house working. We were told there would be supervision (property manager), porta potty etc at the location. None of which was provided. We began to question things as the construction part got started. Framing failed city inspection right from the start. One corner of the garage is hanging off the foundation 2.5 inches and a ledger plate has to be installed according to the city. No part of the house was hanging of the foundation at preloss condition. Things began to get broke, toilet, tub, back patio, air conditioning etc. In the beginning we were told if we wanted our house done right to hire them because they would seal the walls from odor. He mentioned and quot;Even if you can't see it, or smell it right now it's in crevasses and hiding and you want it done because if you or your children have allergies then this will be trouble down the road.and quot; I seen drywall being installed and asked their drywall guy if he smelled smoke he said yes he did in fact smell it pretty bad. I asked the questoin about and Phoenix had hosted a and quot;smellingand quot; of the walls with no homeowner present, that they and my insurance company determined it was not bad and didn't smell enough to seal them. In an audio recording I have of Phoenix they say and quot;If ANY sheet rock is removed they ALWAYS seal the walls.and quot; This didn't happen. I took note to the windows being installed, we had Double hung retrofit windows before they installed single hung new construction windows, but charged us for what we had prior. The window guy installed them incorrectly and ripped out the entire casing. When talking with Pat Murphy he said I don't know why you want double hung anyways. We asked Phoenix to make the essential repairs so that we may move forward. Pat Murphy said I was ridiculous for even asking for that and when asked about the walls and not being sealed he said and quot;whoops we may have forgot that.and quot; They made up city codes as they went, stating I couldn't have a attic access in my garage, which before it was there and we had a pretty big storage are in the attic. They took all of that out. They dropped our roofline 12inches, the flashing is done incorrectly, the attic ventilation failed, the chimney cap was installed horribly with new water intrusion coming into the house from the chimney to the basement. Their electrician didn't finish the job although he stated he was paid in full (also recorded) he would not be coming back out to finish. The rough electric passed city inspection and shouldn't have. According to the person who oversees all the inspectors they stated that the City inspectors are not the professional the actual tradesman is. I only mention this because that is their only excuse that the electrical passed city but was done incorrectly. So incorrectly that I had another electrician come out as well as a home inspector that I paid for and it was noted that If they had not caught the electrial deficiencies then we would have been LUCKY if it had tripped the breaker box before causing another house fire. Their electrician kept the breaker box panel and refused to get it back to us, Phoenix confirmed in an email that the electrician would come out and finish but didn't.
I asked about their roofer who was not registered in the State of Kansas, this happened to be at a meeting at my house between their framer/roofer, Pat Murphy and Dan Murphy. They knew I was going to get to that question and before I could get outside Dan Murphy had motioned for their framer to walk away. I asked if he was registered in the state of Kansas and they said he had walked to Casey's and they could call me with the answer. I told them that I would wait until he got back, then I just happened to notice their framer HIDING behind our fence. I said and quot;I see him hiding.and quot; I asked him if he was registered he stated he was working under Phoenix but not an hourly employee. He became very defensive along with the two guys from Phoenix, if my brother had not been there I would have questioned my safety.
We had went to mediation per our contract stated that before we can go to litigation. Every party involved signed a confidentiality agreement. I mention this because my insurance had an inspection at my home. I had several cameras posted on the property that captured the whole conspiracy between my insurance company and Phoenix along with at the details that were spoken in the mediation, to use against us, coached all and quot;expertsand quot; on how to benefit themselves and Phoenix.
Now here we are almost a year after our fire. We are not in our home. My family is completely devastated at the fact we will not be home for Christmas. Everyday something new happens, we just found out the furnace is not working at the location which I found odd because in a invoice furnace and ac were both serviced. They are claiming we owe them money and we state differently from other vendors who have wrote bids on our house and will NOT touch the home unless everything Phoenix did is removed and replaced if that gives you any idea as to the work on our home. This by far isn't everything. This is just a tip of the iceberg. Do your research, in doing so I have over 20 families that were dooped by this company. You can't make this up.

My sump pump failed during a big rainstorm and flooded my then beautiful finished basement. My insurance agent recommend Phoenix Restoration to me. I called and they had people with a plumber here to start fixing and cleaning the mess the day I called. The flooding was so bad they had to remove the water on one day and remove all the damage the next. These guys are quick and professional. They have all the equipment needed to clean up my mess. They also have a plan to restore my basement to its formal man cave glory.

We did not have a great experience with Phoenix with our fire restoration. During demolition they broke a water valve and caused a lot of damage. The wood floors they put in were terrible - they tried to blame the dry winter but ALL the rest of our wood floors are fine. Their cabinet guy used crappy shelves, the shelves don't stay on track and warp. They put seams in the counters in the middle of work spaces. They painted over things like tape and left it. Their paint is peeling in several places. They did not stain the risers on the steps to match the wood. They ordered wood for our mantel that was too short so there is a block in the middle of our fireplace now. You can see the seems where the chair rail pieces were pieced together. We started pointing out problems while they were still doing work but paid them everything but the last $1800. They claim this is all warranty work but then excuse away every problem we point out. Then they added an additional $2000 to our bill AFTER the final bill and sent it to collections while we were trying to work with the insurance on the water claim.
Also there were many delays. Sometimes only one person would work one day in an entire week.
Everytime we tried to discuss and quot;warrantyand quot; work (how is it warranty when it wasn't finished) they had excuses for every problem we pointed out.
Also they convinced my wife to sign the release so they could get remaining funds from mortgage company before work was complete then used that against us to say their work was good. Guess that is what we get for trusting they would be honest!!
Response from Phoenix Renovation & Restoration Inc
"The water valve did break during demolition due to the city mistakenly turning the water on at the street. Phoenix responded that night tearing out wet materials and setting drying equipment. Moisture tests were done before wood floors were installed. The City accepted liability on the claim and paid the [member name removed] for the additional damage. Phoenix has attempted numerous times to address all of the concerns listed by the homeowner. Each time we had something scheduled to do the repairs the homeowner would call to cancel. This has been going on since November when the homeowner moved back into the home. Yes, we classify these issues as warranty items which we indeed attempted (many times) to go back and perform warranty repairs. However, with no access to the home we were unable to fix the issues. We did add an additional $500.00 to the final invoice for late fees and non-payment per the contract the homeowner signed. It was not an additional $2000.00. Due to legal issues pending with the [member name removed] this is all we are at liberty to state at this time."

They were fantastic. We worked with Tim Quinn, and he was great at managing the project. I think it took a little bit longer than we had anticipated. Other than that, everything was great. Phoenix was great about communicating with us and kind of holding the subcontractors responsible for some things that happens. So overall, we are really pleased with Phoenix. We have already recommended them and would definitely recommend them. I thought their service especially their customer service was fantastic. Their price was not any different than any of the other companies we got a quote from. So, I cannot say that we were disappointed or upset with it. The quote that they gave us is really the price that they came in at. There were no hidden fees or additional costs in there. This is an insurance job as well. They were fantastic in terms of working with our insurance company. I do not think that it was Phoenix that was not functional. I think it was the subcontractors.

First, let me say that I am extremely picky. That said, I would give Phoenix an and quot;A+and quot; if possible. I am thrilled with the results -- I was so bummed out when the water damage occurred, thinking my house would never be the same -- but Phoenix did a terrific job -- and for a quite reasonable price.
Brooks was the main person to oversee the project. He did an outstanding job. Very responsive, and did a lot of things above and beyond what he needed to. My father was here from out-of-state to help me with the project. Dad asked Brooks to try to keep the project moving along as best he could, so that Dad could get back home. Brooks did a fantastic job keeping the project moving -- as soon as one portion of the project was done, he had the people lined up for the next part of the project.
The quality of the work was also outstanding -- there was one minor issue, which Brooks promptly came out and fixed himself. I was particularly impressed with the hardwood floor company Brooks used -- they did a fantastic job on all the hardwood.
I had some and quot;add-onsand quot; that I wanted Phoenix to do -- like use a top-of-the-line paint -- Brooks made sure those things were done, and done right -- and only charged me for the difference --
The only thing that could of gone better was that the carpeting could have gone faster (I had the whole house done since so much of the house already had to be done) if there had been more than 1 guy working on it. It took a whole week for the 1 guy to do it all. (but that 1 guy did work really hard and kept at it all day)
All in all, I am very pleased with Phoenix. I would highly recommend them to anyone. As I said before, I am pretty hard to please, and I could not be happier with the results.

Phoenix was hired by our insurance company to handle all of the damage from a bad tree strike on our house (the estimate was approx. $50-60,000, this was a big job). There were big jobs, such as the roof, ducts, deck and windows, as well as carpeting, flooring, painting and general cleanup. While things started off well, they ended up extremely bad, and with us having to foot the bill for not only initial damages but for the damage caused by the inadequate work done by Phoenix and their subcontractors. The damages have cost us thousands so far, with a few thousand to go, and we should never have had to suffer either further damage or had to pay ourselves to fix someone else's mistakes.
We also have gotten the runaround from Phoenix regarding everything from missing property to inadequate gutter/roofing work (which caused severe damage to our basement), and in the end they refused to fix the remaining damage or even address our complaints. This started early, when a film memorabilia stand-up (6 feet tall, and hard to miss) vanished from the upstairs after carpeting was done. Phoenix refused to give us the name of the subcontractor and claimed that the stand-up hadn't been taken, which was laughable, as it didn't exactly just run off on its own. Still, this was very minor compared to what came next.
They were unable to get the replacement windows ordered for several months. The tree strike happened in March of 2010 and they were still emailing us about them being on order by August. In the meantime, they had our windows simply covered with plastic sheeting, which leaked--ruining the hardwood floors. They did refinish these, but had to do it twice. Two of the windows don't even work properly, and one still leaks horribly if we have heavy rain. The wait also resulted in wood rot that they claimed existed before the damage was done. It did not. Phoenix has been called back to the house about this, and refused to do a thing about it.
The roofing job was inadequate to the point that a breach was caused by the poor guttering job, causing water to flood into the walls and down to the basement. We later found that the roofers had not only not replaced our gutter guards at all, but had hidden them behind our bushes! The independent contractors I've hired since to give estimates have stated that a downspout clogged or just didn't properly work (within a few months of the repairs) after the repairs, causing a breach between the fascia board and an interior/exterior wall which poured water directly down the walls and down to our basement. Once Spring hit and our basement became flooded, we called both the insurance and Phoenix, both of which refused to fix it, and we were dropped by our homeowner's insurance within two months of calling about this, which left us unable to continue the original claim. Also, until the fascia boards actually broke on the outside of the house, no one could tell where the leak to the basement was even coming from.
The damage to the basement has cost us $4000.00 so far (and that is the WORK we had done, not the property that we lost due to further water damage, all of which had to be thrown away!) and we have yet to have the work done on the ruined fascia boards, and all estimates for that job are around $5000.00, not to mention the guttering work. That is simply for the repairs, this approx. $9,000 estimate, and doesn't include the drywall replacement, repainting the drywall, the carpet replacement, or the cost of ruined furniture that was in the finished section of the basement. That will drive the cost of repairs up several thousand dollars more, and leaving it undone diminishes the value of our house substantially. There IS no value able to be placed on what was down there that had to simply be thrown away. When Phoenix came back to look at this, their representative just kept saying everything had been put back to how it had been, but obviously we didn't have leaking windows and walls initially.
So much was left undone, or simply wasn't done right in the first place. Phoenix did come back out to look at the issues we still were having (and which persist to this day), and they refused to do anything. I showed them the debris still littering our yard, which included quite a lot of broken glass and metal debris, and one of their employees carried a few pieces of metal away but left us with several broken windows' worth of glass. I later had to have that area cleaned out and fixed, again, at our expense. This cleanup was part of the contract, and therefore the responsibility of Phoenix. Yet they wouldn't do it. There were many minor issues, such as deck boards being slanted and trim not being nailed back into place, paint that is splattered onto our tile, pieces of wallpaper that were never removed, that are sloppy but aren't costing us thousands of dollars to repair ourselves.
Mainly, we are upset that we were left having to pay for numerous repairs not from the tree strike, but from inadequate and shoddy work that caused further damage or was simply not done right in the first place. It was bad enough that a tree fell on our house, we didn't need to end up paying thousands of dollars in repairs ourselves. Worse than that, when these issues were addressed finally to the last Phoenix team that came out here, they simply refused to address the bigger issues. Absolutely refused. They didn't say no even, they just wouldn't do anything as per their contract. Not even cleaning up broken glass. Not looking at the breached fascia board. I showed them the gutter guards laying in the yard, and instead of replacing them or scheduling the work, they just either gave the runaround or said nothing at all.
I would never, EVER hire this company on my own, and am very sorry that our former insurance company hired them in the first place. It was a nightmare. If you have the choice to hire someone else, by all means do so.

Response from Phoenix Renovation & Restoration Inc
"Phoenix Renovation & Restoration, INC. performed insurance restoration work related to a fire at the stated property for the insured during 2010. The homeowner signed a Satisfaction of Completion certificate at the end of the project. Phoenix owners Mark Heinze and Pat Murphy both met the homeowner at completion of the project to discuss any concerns she might have. Everything that was brought up in the Angie’s List review was not related to our scope of work related to the fire restoration. The home at that time had quite a bit of deferred maintenance that needed to be taken care of. Our total job amount was $25,572.51, not $50,000. We did not do the work on the gutters or on the roof. The roof work was performed by Butler Roofing directly with the homeowner. The accusation that someone from Phoenix ‘stole’ something from their home is completely not true. Once again, the homeowner signed a Satisfaction of Completion form at the end of the project, which we have on file."
