"• Phoenix originally received the claim for a water loss on a rental property on January 9, 2015. We worked directly from the insurance adjusters estimate. • Contract was eventually signed by the property owner on 3-2-15. Work started 3-5-15. Work completed per contract by 4-15-15. • Phoenix did not direct bill the insurance company. The property owner and mortgage company were paid directly by her insurance company and the property owner was to pay us. • Cost for the structure repairs was $14,333.70 per insurance estimate; Phoenix’s final bill to property owner was $11,189.68, which is less than what the property owner was paid by her insurance company. • Property owner was provided a detailed invoice and breakdown in April. • Phoenix is not paid in full. Property owner still owes $2196.00. (6 months past due)."
In summary, I would give Phoenix/Brooks an A+ grade if that were available, because they did such a terrific job. I would not hesitate to hire them again, especially if Brooks was to be in charge of the project.
I asked about their roofer who was not registered in the State of Kansas, this happened to be at a meeting at my house between their framer/roofer, Pat Murphy and Dan Murphy. They knew I was going to get to that question and before I could get outside Dan Murphy had motioned for their framer to walk away. I asked if he was registered in the state of Kansas and they said he had walked to Casey's and they could call me with the answer. I told them that I would wait until he got back, then I just happened to notice their framer HIDING behind our fence. I said and quot;I see him hiding.and quot; I asked him if he was registered he stated he was working under Phoenix but not an hourly employee. He became very defensive along with the two guys from Phoenix, if my brother had not been there I would have questioned my safety.
We had went to mediation per our contract stated that before we can go to litigation. Every party involved signed a confidentiality agreement. I mention this because my insurance had an inspection at my home. I had several cameras posted on the property that captured the whole conspiracy between my insurance company and Phoenix along with at the details that were spoken in the mediation, to use against us, coached all and quot;expertsand quot; on how to benefit themselves and Phoenix.
Now here we are almost a year after our fire. We are not in our home. My family is completely devastated at the fact we will not be home for Christmas. Everyday something new happens, we just found out the furnace is not working at the location which I found odd because in a invoice furnace and ac were both serviced. They are claiming we owe them money and we state differently from other vendors who have wrote bids on our house and will NOT touch the home unless everything Phoenix did is removed and replaced if that gives you any idea as to the work on our home. This by far isn't everything. This is just a tip of the iceberg. Do your research, in doing so I have over 20 families that were dooped by this company. You can't make this up.
"“Due to both parties entering into a confidentiality agreement and our lawsuit filed against the member, we are unable to comment.”"
Also there were many delays. Sometimes only one person would work one day in an entire week.
Everytime we tried to discuss and quot;warrantyand quot; work (how is it warranty when it wasn't finished) they had excuses for every problem we pointed out.
Also they convinced my wife to sign the release so they could get remaining funds from mortgage company before work was complete then used that against us to say their work was good. Guess that is what we get for trusting they would be honest!!
"The water valve did break during demolition due to the city mistakenly turning the water on at the street. Phoenix responded that night tearing out wet materials and setting drying equipment. Moisture tests were done before wood floors were installed. The City accepted liability on the claim and paid the [member name removed] for the additional damage. Phoenix has attempted numerous times to address all of the concerns listed by the homeowner. Each time we had something scheduled to do the repairs the homeowner would call to cancel. This has been going on since November when the homeowner moved back into the home. Yes, we classify these issues as warranty items which we indeed attempted (many times) to go back and perform warranty repairs. However, with no access to the home we were unable to fix the issues. We did add an additional $500.00 to the final invoice for late fees and non-payment per the contract the homeowner signed. It was not an additional $2000.00. Due to legal issues pending with the [member name removed] this is all we are at liberty to state at this time."
Brooks was the main person to oversee the project. He did an outstanding job. Very responsive, and did a lot of things above and beyond what he needed to. My father was here from out-of-state to help me with the project. Dad asked Brooks to try to keep the project moving along as best he could, so that Dad could get back home. Brooks did a fantastic job keeping the project moving -- as soon as one portion of the project was done, he had the people lined up for the next part of the project.
The quality of the work was also outstanding -- there was one minor issue, which Brooks promptly came out and fixed himself. I was particularly impressed with the hardwood floor company Brooks used -- they did a fantastic job on all the hardwood.
I had some and quot;add-onsand quot; that I wanted Phoenix to do -- like use a top-of-the-line paint -- Brooks made sure those things were done, and done right -- and only charged me for the difference --
The only thing that could of gone better was that the carpeting could have gone faster (I had the whole house done since so much of the house already had to be done) if there had been more than 1 guy working on it. It took a whole week for the 1 guy to do it all. (but that 1 guy did work really hard and kept at it all day)
All in all, I am very pleased with Phoenix. I would highly recommend them to anyone. As I said before, I am pretty hard to please, and I could not be happier with the results.
We also have gotten the runaround from Phoenix regarding everything from missing property to inadequate gutter/roofing work (which caused severe damage to our basement), and in the end they refused to fix the remaining damage or even address our complaints. This started early, when a film memorabilia stand-up (6 feet tall, and hard to miss) vanished from the upstairs after carpeting was done. Phoenix refused to give us the name of the subcontractor and claimed that the stand-up hadn't been taken, which was laughable, as it didn't exactly just run off on its own. Still, this was very minor compared to what came next.
They were unable to get the replacement windows ordered for several months. The tree strike happened in March of 2010 and they were still emailing us about them being on order by August. In the meantime, they had our windows simply covered with plastic sheeting, which leaked--ruining the hardwood floors. They did refinish these, but had to do it twice. Two of the windows don't even work properly, and one still leaks horribly if we have heavy rain. The wait also resulted in wood rot that they claimed existed before the damage was done. It did not. Phoenix has been called back to the house about this, and refused to do a thing about it.
The roofing job was inadequate to the point that a breach was caused by the poor guttering job, causing water to flood into the walls and down to the basement. We later found that the roofers had not only not replaced our gutter guards at all, but had hidden them behind our bushes! The independent contractors I've hired since to give estimates have stated that a downspout clogged or just didn't properly work (within a few months of the repairs) after the repairs, causing a breach between the fascia board and an interior/exterior wall which poured water directly down the walls and down to our basement. Once Spring hit and our basement became flooded, we called both the insurance and Phoenix, both of which refused to fix it, and we were dropped by our homeowner's insurance within two months of calling about this, which left us unable to continue the original claim. Also, until the fascia boards actually broke on the outside of the house, no one could tell where the leak to the basement was even coming from.
The damage to the basement has cost us $4000.00 so far (and that is the WORK we had done, not the property that we lost due to further water damage, all of which had to be thrown away!) and we have yet to have the work done on the ruined fascia boards, and all estimates for that job are around $5000.00, not to mention the guttering work. That is simply for the repairs, this approx. $9,000 estimate, and doesn't include the drywall replacement, repainting the drywall, the carpet replacement, or the cost of ruined furniture that was in the finished section of the basement. That will drive the cost of repairs up several thousand dollars more, and leaving it undone diminishes the value of our house substantially. There IS no value able to be placed on what was down there that had to simply be thrown away. When Phoenix came back to look at this, their representative just kept saying everything had been put back to how it had been, but obviously we didn't have leaking windows and walls initially.
So much was left undone, or simply wasn't done right in the first place. Phoenix did come back out to look at the issues we still were having (and which persist to this day), and they refused to do anything. I showed them the debris still littering our yard, which included quite a lot of broken glass and metal debris, and one of their employees carried a few pieces of metal away but left us with several broken windows' worth of glass. I later had to have that area cleaned out and fixed, again, at our expense. This cleanup was part of the contract, and therefore the responsibility of Phoenix. Yet they wouldn't do it. There were many minor issues, such as deck boards being slanted and trim not being nailed back into place, paint that is splattered onto our tile, pieces of wallpaper that were never removed, that are sloppy but aren't costing us thousands of dollars to repair ourselves.
Mainly, we are upset that we were left having to pay for numerous repairs not from the tree strike, but from inadequate and shoddy work that caused further damage or was simply not done right in the first place. It was bad enough that a tree fell on our house, we didn't need to end up paying thousands of dollars in repairs ourselves. Worse than that, when these issues were addressed finally to the last Phoenix team that came out here, they simply refused to address the bigger issues. Absolutely refused. They didn't say no even, they just wouldn't do anything as per their contract. Not even cleaning up broken glass. Not looking at the breached fascia board. I showed them the gutter guards laying in the yard, and instead of replacing them or scheduling the work, they just either gave the runaround or said nothing at all.
I would never, EVER hire this company on my own, and am very sorry that our former insurance company hired them in the first place. It was a nightmare. If you have the choice to hire someone else, by all means do so.
"Phoenix Renovation & Restoration, INC. performed insurance restoration work related to a fire at the stated property for the insured during 2010. The homeowner signed a Satisfaction of Completion certificate at the end of the project. Phoenix owners Mark Heinze and Pat Murphy both met the homeowner at completion of the project to discuss any concerns she might have. Everything that was brought up in the Angie’s List review was not related to our scope of work related to the fire restoration. The home at that time had quite a bit of deferred maintenance that needed to be taken care of. Our total job amount was $25,572.51, not $50,000. We did not do the work on the gutters or on the roof. The roof work was performed by Butler Roofing directly with the homeowner. The accusation that someone from Phoenix ‘stole’ something from their home is completely not true. Once again, the homeowner signed a Satisfaction of Completion form at the end of the project, which we have on file."
