ALH did a great job with everything. Allan recommended pet screens (which cost a little more) and they look great. Jim did a great job with the drywall and sealing some windows.

ALH handled everything with ultimate skill and precision, making sure that each task was completed to perfection, whether it was one of their professionals, or a subcontractor they hired. You won’t be sorry if you sign a contract with them. We would do it again, and have given their contact information to friends and family who are planning projects.

Couldn't be happier. High quality. Professional. Excellent communication. The cement contractor made an error pouring the floor and AHL caught the error and made them redo. Accurate estimate.

Great experience and would recommend them to anyone.  We had a concept in mind of what we wanted the project to look like when we are done and the ALH team delivered quite well on the concept and were additive in helping us move from our basic items into space we are quite proud of.  The thing that impressed us during construction and then even today, a year and half after completion, was the quality of the service.  I'm sure that we could have done the project at a cheaper price, but I'm almost also as certain it would not have come with the same level of quality.  The team was in constant communication with us about the timeline and the progress.  Post completion of the project, ALH reached out to us at a couple of different intervals for any issues that we were having, and to this day, we haven't had any.

The company is a very high quality firm.  I have no doubts that the finished product would be exceptional.  I have seen their work and it is gorgeous.
The price kept us from utilizing them.  They were $30,000-$40,000 more than other contract bids we solicited.  They are a great outfit for the upper end homes, but found the price too high for recouping much of the cost should we sell.
Only small concern I had was the designer had to be reminded several times of detail we were looking for in the proposal.  That was a bit disappointed.
Overall this is a high quality construction company who likes you to know in advance all of the details of the work they will do, which is very helpful when you undergo a project.

We selected ALH from a list compiled mostly from Angie's List, a few members of NARI and recommendations from friends.  Their bid was within $1,000 of the other 'finalist' but what put ALH over the finish line was their straight forward way and professional manner.  We weren't disappointed.
The whole ALH team was great to work with.  Owner Allen clearly knows his stuff and is a perfectionist.  Rob who handles scheduling and day-to-day project management was on top of the seemingly thousands of details.  Our lead carpenter, Jim, was the best.  Beyond being a great craftsman and also a bit of a perfectionist (in a good way), our two-year old really took to him.  In a project this size, it does sometimes feel like the contractor moves in with you so having people you want to be in your house and around your family is more important than money.
ALH did a great job of managing a long list of sub-contractors and a few technical and design challenges -- this was the equivalent almost of building a new house (both in cost and size). ALH's ability to organize everything was a huge weight off of our shoulders.  Moreover, their attention to detail meant that it was a rare case where we had to point out something we were unhappy about.  In fact, more than once, we thought something was fine and ALH would re-do it or have the sub-contractor re-do it because it was not quite up to their standards.
ALH's attention to detail shows and we love the final result.   They came in on time and very close to the original budget (not including all of the changes we kept making -- but that was our own fault!).
We have a couple of other somewhat large projects planned for the future and ALH is the only contractor we will consider.

In selecting a remodeler, I had three objectives:  (1)  I wanted good ideas that would be cost-proportionate to the value of my house, (2)  I wanted someone reliable and on schedule, and (3) I wanted a minimum number of surprises, particularly as to unexpected costs. ALH met those expectations.
My first meeting was with owner, Allen.  He listened carefully, then made suggestions that were neither too plain nor too elaborate--pretty much the balance I told him I was seeking.
Once some general concepts were agreed upon, he took several days to prepare a very detailed proposal. It laid out exactly what he proposed to do and it showed cost by line item.  The proposal not only detailed work that definitely would be done, it alerted me to potential areas of unexpected expense.  For example, there was a hidden area that once exposed by tear-out might have revealed some suspected rot. Fortunately, there was no rot, nor any other surprises, but I appreciated the effort to warn me of potential unknowns.
Once Allen and I modified and agreed on the proposal, construction began right on time.
Most of the work was done by lead carpenter, Jim. He was considerate and dependable.  If we'd agreed that he would start at 7am, he was in the driveway at 6:55 and ringing the doorbell at 7:03.  He communicated very well about what would happen when, and he cleaned up fastidiously at the end of each day. He was extremely conscientious about the quality of his work, which was excellent.
Communication and organization was also excellent.  In addition to the communication I received on-site, I regularly got emails and calls from Rob at ALH's office reminding me of any meetings and explaining any scheduling changes. Although there were two major snow storms during the project, Rob managed to juggle things around with his own crew and several vendors and very nearly kept to the original schedule.  Never once did I have trouble getting a phone call returned or a question answered.
There were some problems on the project, although none of them were ALH's fault. But even though ALH hadn't caused any of the problems, they took the lead in getting them resolved.  For example, I had bought a dishwasher that was defective out-of-the-box.  It couldn't be installed as scheduled, potentially delaying some remaining work.  Even though ALH played no part in my purchase of this dishwasher, they volunteered to call the seller and spent considerable time insisting on immediate warranty repairs.
ALH gave me good ideas, did very good work, caused no major surprises, and they were professional.  I would use them again.

This project went extremely well because of ALH. We discovered the issue when we found water in the basement. We had several contractors provide estimates, but Allen, the owner of ALH, provided the most detail and suggested a plan that best fit our situation. After assessing the full extent of the issue, Allen provided a thorough itemized estimate for the work. The best part was the great communication with Allen as we prepared for the project. Once the project started, we worked with Rob and Jim. Rob kept us updated on project financials and Jim was the onsite manager who also performed most of the work. Similar to the scoping process, ALH was excellent at communicating with us about the project and engaged us for decisions as needed. They were also very flexible with Change Orders when they came up and communicated additional cost very well before they started the new work. For price, I was concerned about some charges during the estimation process, especially charges for managing subcontractors. However, as we worked through the project, I greatly appreciated ALH's management. Jim ensured that the windows and supplies were ordered and delivered on time; he also managed the stucco subcontractor when additional wood rot was discovered and managed the dumpster drop off and pick up. When the subcontractor picked the dumpster up, their truck leaked hydraulic oil on the driveway. Jim and Rob worked with the dumpster company to make sure the oil was taken care of before they left. Excellent company and I recommend them to anyone who wants a contractor who delivers quality services and communicates very well with their customer.

What a great experience! From the estimate, to the change order to final completion, there were no surprises.  Quality work, tidy, friendly, just positive in every way.  Thanks Ryan!
