About 5 or 6 years later, we asked Doug to check on a Golf Villa across the fairway from our home on Leawood South Country Club. It was for sale out of a foreclosure. He helped advise us on what he expected it would cost to flip it and how much he thought we could get after the repairs, etc. He was our buyer's agent on that transaction. There was competitive bidding and we won. He helped us find contractors and we flipped the condo making a very good return. It sold in a few weeks during a very tough market time. We decided to take the profit and buy a new home for us.
Doug Lyman and Shelley Staton, his daughter, found us a home still on the golf course that was not even on the market yet. They just know the market and the market participants that well. We bought the house. He then listed our home and it sold very quickly at the very top of its market value. Later we were fortunate to find a great deal on a home under construction in a maintenance provided area. We decided to buy it. Doug and Shelley listed our house on a Friday and we had a contract by Sunday with excellent terms.
