Read installation literature for fixtures. Verify workers install correctly. Keep daily records, tape record every conversation (with permission), videotape work in progress. Before hiring anyone, find someone who will take over if C doesn't work out. Verify competency beforehand of all workers. Don't let C move me out of house. I might not get back in. C must have at least 15 positive references with same scope of work. Final payment large enough to pay for someone else repairing damages or redoing work. Verify measurements workability. Have strong emotional support for trauma. Discuss written copy of all building codes relating to project with C. Have C pull permit. Hire pros to carefully check wiring and plumbing before drywall put up. Unplug electric appliances. Power tools & turning on power can cause surge damage. Learn about wall construction & grab bar installation. Verify C will install correctly. Don't let C manipulate emotions. Don't give money before it's due.
