Poor quality work on a retaining wall intended to support driveway and a bad attitude. Done completely incorrectly, all the dirt came out because he didn't use any rocks, just a very thin layer of gravel at the bottom, and then filled it with dirt. Within 6 months had to have it completely torn down and rebuilt by someone else. "Bricks" were uneven and pushing out, it wasn't build high enough to support the driveway and do it's job, dirt coming out between them because it wasn't lined as well as pooling out of the uncapped bottom into my grass. Also initially refused to return to fill with enough dirt (at that point I had no idea there were no rocks nor that it wasn't lined) and only agreed to return when I cancelled his check. Would never use him or recommend him

Paul was professional and responsive. He always made us aware of his project plan, which days he would be on the job, and what he was going to accomplish each day. He was also able to resolve some preexisting poor craftsmanship around a stone window header, and he filled some holes in the brick that had long ago contained some sort of attachments. He was conscientious about matching the new tuck pointing to existing work. We are very happy with the result and highly recommend Paul and his assistant! Price was comparable to another bid. Though, other bidders were reluctant to take on the job as completely as Paul, due to the very narrow spacing of our brick. Paul's solution was to grind out a wider gap for the mortar. Finally, Paul's clean up was great. There was a lot of dust from this job, and Paul was frequently vacuuming and cleaning up. He finished with a hose wash.

The project went very well. Paul and his assistant were on time every day during the build and left things in a tidy condition every evening. He was easy to communicate with before the project begain, and was very clear about what would be happening each day. The finished steps and porch look great.

When I called Paul, I got an answering machine. But, when I left a message, he got back to me that same day. I gave him a description of the work needed, and he said he could get over to my place in three days to look at it and give me an estimate. He arrived promptly at the agreed time, and quickly gave me an estimate, which I accepted. He put me on his work schedule, and told me it would be about 10 days. A week later, he called me and told me he could be out the day after next to start the work. He said he would be there at 9 a.m. He arrived at 8:30 a.m., and had the work completed by 9:30 a.m. He said he'd be back the next day to do an acid wash of the concrete and finish the cleanup. The next day he arrived at the agreed upon time, and finished the job. I paid him the agreed upon price, and was very happy with everything.

They made sure the raccoon was gone, set traps and ordered 2 chimney caps to keep raccoons out in future. Raccoon was gone. None caught in traps - which I was glad since I didn't want raccoon dead, just out of my chimney. And caps were installed. Price was probably what everyone charged. They were quick, prompt and did good work.

Our chimney sweep told us our chimney was badly in need of repair and it had to be done before the cold weather set in. Paul was prompt in returning my call and came out the next day to estimate the work. We had 8 rows of bricks replaced at the top of the chimney and the mortar cap replaced. He also regrouted the firebox inside the fireplace. All the work was done promptly and it looks fantastic. Added bonus: Near the end of the job, Paul noticed a few more bricks that needed replacing on the chimney and replaced those at no extra cost (because he hadn't noticed them when he made the initial estimate). He was pleasant and easy to work with. I will definitely call him again.

Paul and his associate did an outstanding job.  They arrived when they said they would, removed all of the existing brick step pavers, filled some holes in the substrate that were found when they removed the old brick, and then installed the new brick pavers.  The masonry work was very well done, and as an architect I've seen lots of masonry work.  I would recommend Paul to anyone needing masonry work done.

The crew showed up each of the three mornings about 8 and worked on until that phase of the work was completed.  The first day was the chimney, second day was the front of the house and the third day was building a temporary wheelchair ramp so we did not stress the new brick work on the porch and general job cleanup.
Paul and his crew were professional yet friendly and did not stand around talking (with me or each other).  They cleaned up there mess without me paying for featherbedding fussy-clean time that adds no value on an outdoor project.

Paul started while it was still a bit cold but got the chimney deconstructed  and began the rebuild. He finished the job on time and it looks great. He was also able to match the new stone to the stone on the front of the house. The brick work has drawn the most attention and we've had several neighbors as who did our work.

I contacted 12 masonry/ brick and chimney repair companies from Angies List within a 25 mile radius of the job-site.
Out of 12 first page companies, only three submitted bids. The others made excuses, were too busy or  recommended others.
A few of these companies did not want to come out to look at the project. Instead they asked me what was needed and so I described the simple matter. They quoted $2k to $3k over the phone. Wow.
One company I spoke to recommended  Paul  Hopkins (who was already on my list).
Paul was the first to come out early, bid on the work and finish the small job within a three week window.
The work was repaired in one day, as promised. Paul took the 3 foot chimney apart and rebuilt /  re-flashed it nicely.

This was NOT scheduled work.  Called Paul and asked him to look at the chimney within a 2 week period.  We were planning to install a fireplace insert and Flues Bros who did the inspection reported that the fireplace was in bad shape and that the crown needed to be replaced.  Paul called and said the crown was fine.  When the installers came, they also said the crown was fine.  The interior of the chimney was definitely substandard, but the exterior work which Paul had done previously was in excellent condition.

I wasn't home either time. This last time I called, his assistant came out the following day, gave me an estimate, and said the work would be done by the end of the week and it was.
