FATHER & SONS HOME PAINTING SERVICE
About us
Father and Sons Home Painting Services has been in business since 1984 and we have had the same phone number for 27 years. We do both interior and exterior home painting. We are family-owned and operated and I consider our painters to not only be great painters but great people. We have painted several thousand homes in Johnson Co. and surrounding area. We also have two carpenters and do a very professional job with removing the rotten wood and replacing it with new. We carry both Workman’s Compensation and General Liability insurance (Most painters carry only General Liability) and are happy to provide them to all of our customers during our bid proposal. We give a written warranty on all of our painting services. I believe we have the best long term follow-up in the business based on the amount of repeat customers that we have. We have a company motto and it is as follows: It is our personal goal to accomplish all work with the least disturbance to your home and your family. It is our personal goal to accomplish all work, being as prompt as possible with the highest quality work being given to your project. It is our strong point to be the cleanest painters you will encounter, both during the project and during the final cleanup. I believe we have been with Angie’s List since they first entered Johnson Co. In addition, we have a Handymen Service that is listed on Angie's List. It is called Rent A Handyman and you can find it in your monthly booklet. When you call our office you will reach me, David. I handle the phone most of the time. If I’m out on a job you could leave me a message. I’m good at getting right back to you. Also, feel free to email us at [email protected]! -David Rodlund

The test of a good house painter is the prep work before the paint: scraping, caulking, sealing and cleaning and I was not confident that an excellent job was done this time. The painters got behind when they started work on the WRONG house, then rushed through the prep work, caulking over dirty and peeling paint. My husband spent a day re-doing shoddy prep work.
Of all the estimates I got, this company's was the second highest. I would have paid it gladly if I felt we got the excellent job again like before, but this time I was not so impressed.
Another problem is that the non-English speaking workers spent half a day of fine weather scraping paint off of my neighbor's house, (their English was so poor, that they could not find MY address) and then they made up lost time by painting my house while it was drizzling rain. Can you get a quality paint job while it is so wet? Never mind that now my neighbors blame us for the painter's mistake.
I have to say I will not use this company again, and if I ever paint this house again I will make sure the contract states that at least one person who speaks English will be on the crew at all times, and that they will not paint in the rain. I do not know if all painters kill so much grass and foundation plants, but it looked like no care at all was taken to prevent damage to the garden.
Do not believe the company when they say there will always be one English speaker on site. I can assure you that the Saturday they painted in the drizzling rain, not one of the three young men understood me when I spoke to them in English.
I would not mind IN THE LEAST if the crew were immigrants, or spoke Uzbecki, as long as I could communicate with them and they did a quality job. In this case I was not favorably impressed, with the QUALITY of work. I have had excellent work done by Spanish speakers, but not this time.
"I am surprised you wrote such a bitter letter. I believe there is more to this hostility than meets the eye, because your home looks beautiful. The paint job looks fantastic. We did an excellent job. In your comments to Angie's List you stated that you are not confident that an excellent job was done this time. From that comment, it would seem that you looked the entire paint job over and couldn’t find anything wrong. I guess you could also take your comment to mean that maybe this is really a fantastic paint job. You actually received as good or better paint job as the one we did nine years ago because the painters I have are great! These same painters painted another home in Leawood. Their comments are attached. I believe your hostility is because the painters are of Mexican ethnicity. This is my opinion based on the number of comments you made regarding non-English speaking people. This same crew spoke English when they were painting the other home. I would also like to remind you that I was present on the job every day. The main concern for other Angie's List customers should be the quality of the paint job on your home. Was it a bad paint job?...or was it a good paint job?....or was it a fantastic paint job? View the pictures. I had 3 painters plus myself and we used 2 cases of caulking and removed lot of mold. We scraped and sanded all flaking paint and primed the areas. I feel we did a superior job and I stand by my work. As you know I carry workmans comp insurance, general liability insurance and warranty my work for 3 years. Sincerely, M. David Rodlund"
"WE SURE APPRECIATE THE MEMBER'S COMMENTS. IT HAS BEEN OVER A YEAR SINCE WE COMPLETED THE WORK. WE DID CONSIDERABLE EXTRA WORK TO MAKE HER HAPPY. SHE IS A WONDERFUL PERSON AND ALTHOUGH THERE WERE A COUPLE OF HARSH COMMENTS I'M SURE SHE DID NOT MEAN THEM."
"I'M VERY HAPPY TO HEAR FROM THE MEMBER. ALTHOUGH HE WAS SOMEWHAT INCONVENIENCED BY THE EXTRA PAINT COST, THE HOUSE NEEDED IT AND WE DID NOT SHORT CHANGE HIM. WE PUT ALL THE EXTRA PAINT ON FOR NO CHARGE, AND IT MADE FOR A BEAUTIFUL HIGH MIL PAINT JOB. I'M VERY GLAD HE IS HAPPY, AND AS HE KNOWS HE CAN CALL US ANYTIME WITH ANY PROBLEMS. SINCERELY, DAVE"
