Gave us choice on type of windows, gave informative suggestions. Had no problem doing windows in sections, we did, we did 7 windows the first year, 9 the following year. We still have 6 more to go. Very professional. Window installers at time were a father son team. Very nice, hard working and always polite and on time.
No complaints what so ever.
If I absolutely had to fault this company, it would be in the area of communication, as others have mentioned. We have learned that sometimes you have to be persistent; and while it's not ideal, we have found the extra effort to be worth it to have a project done right.
In the end, Ben always takes care of you to the best of his ability. Our only regret is that we did not discover Ben several years earlier as I know that some remodeling projects would have turned out far better than they did if we had engaged Claymark Homes.
"At Claymark Homes we try very hard to do our best to please our clients and take care of any issue that my arise during an installation or large project. We know that we cannot always solve all of our customers issues and that feedback in forums like this will reflect both positively and occasionally negatively. This is part of the business that we are in. However, when we are being criticized I think that it is important that we have accurate information. If we have done everything we can and a client is still not happy with us, than that is a fair assessment. I think in this case several things have been misstated and I wish to clarify those issues. 1- We did NO work for this client in the year 2013. We did work for [member name removed] in 2011 ( contract dating 9/12/2011 and work performed in November of that year). Also, the amount of the project was half of the amount shown in this complaint. I bring these issues up as I think the client may have us mistaken for another contractor. I say this because: 2 - This was a payment upon completion of the job contract with no down payment. We provided the client with a lien waiver dated and signed on the day we received the check ( and the day the check was dated). There was NO issue with providing this document and I have a copy of the dated check and lien waiver to submit. We are happy to provide lien waivers to ALL clients who request them as it is a matter of law. Many clients use their canceled checks as the waiver but that is another issue. ALL DOCUMENTS WERE PROVIDED BEFORE PAYMENT AND WE PROVIDED THOSE DOCUMENTS. 3 - Claymark Homes is a EPA certified lead based paint contractor and ALL of our installers including the president of the company are lead certified installers. We would be happy to provide all documentation. ALL work was done on this home in a lead safe manner. Old windows and trim were disposed of properly and all clean up and testing were to EPA RRP standards. ALL paperwork relating to said work was documented by the installer and is in the job file ready for review by any proper authorities. This is actually one area where we go the extra mile, as it is a federal offence to do such work illegally. ALL DOCUMENTS RELATING TO THIS WORK CAN BE PROVIDED. 3- Claymark Homes does not have a record of complaint about the shrubs around the home. We do our best to take care of all plants and shrubs. Occasionally we damage something and in those cases we are HAPPY to replace any plants we may have damaged. Construction work does occasionally affect things around the area of work and we understand that. IN THIS CASE NO CALLS OF COMPLAINT ARE RECORDED AND THE HOMEOWNER HAS NEVER CONTACTED US IN REGARD TO THIS ISSUE. - As the homeowner stated in her review, the installation went well. We also remember it going well. We keep a record of all calls and emails for all jobs in the file and we were contacted by this client in 2012 to bid additional work, which we did not end up doing for her. - Our memories of this project, if this is the one she is speaking of, are quite different. It has been three years since we did this job for her and it is odd that we would get a complaint so far from the actual time frame of the work. WE HAVE TRIED REPEATEDLY TO CONTACT THE HOMEOWNER SINCE THIS REVIEW WAS FILED BUT HAVE HAD NO RESPONSE. We would still be happy to correct any issues that we could from the work performed in 2011. - I hope that readers of this review will read our response and look at ALL of our other reviews. We try VERY hard to be one of the good guys and we take these types of reviews VERY seriously. Anyone interested in documentation regarding this project just needs to contact Ben Hansen at Claymark Homes 913-681-8147 Thank you for your time."
Further update from November: I did finally receive the itemized receipt from Ben. (I had forgotten that you only get to take 10% off as a tax credit -- and that you needed to find tax records back to 2005 to make sure you had claimed no more than $500 total... so the financial impact of getting the receipt was not as much as I thought.) Still VERY frustrating to wait so long, but I upgraded the grade back to a B overall.
Update: As of October, I *still* haven't gotten an itemized receipt for the window installation, which I need to take the tax deduction. I called Ben several times and the last time (when I actually got him directly on the phone)-- over a week ago now, he said he would put it in the mail that day.
If I can't take the window costs off as a tax deduction it essentially doubles the cost of the windows. Because of this lengthy delay and failure to get the receipt to me, I am lowering my original ratings on ratings punctuality and responsiveness-- as well as the rating on price and the overall rating.
I haven't totally written off this company, as I have used them for prior work, but will certainly consider other options in the future.
-----------------
David did a remarkable job with the new basement windows and concrete patch around them, though he sealed one window that I hadn't anticipated -- and didn't want sealed, hoping to increase the security. I delayed getting it fixed because I wanted to ask the owner a question about another installation first, but it should be unsealed shortly.
Ben, the owner of the company, had some family matters taking his attention as this latest job progressed. This happens to all of us at some time, but I wish he had delegated some of the responsibility to another employee, so communication could have been handled more efficiently in his absence. In previous work by this company the communication was more timely, so hopefully this will ease soon. In the interest of kindness, I would note that I would rate the responsiveness grade over the five jobs from this company, would raise the responsiveness grade as a B -- but this last job was definitely frustrating in that regard!
I think this company should also be classified under siding repair. I called other siding companies and they would only do repairs if they installed or the work had to be more than $1000.00. The siding company that did the original installation is out of business. In flustration I went to my insurance company for help. They recommended a contractor who recommended Claymark Homes.
The workers that originally installed my siding are still with the company (Scott and Bobby), and they came back to install the venting. Bobby came out twice more to remove siding to allow access for the roofers as needed then re-installed the siding when the roofers were done. I am very happy with their responsiveness, professionalism, and reasonable pricing. One of the questions is, 'would I use this vendor again' - absolutely yes! I'm currently negotiating to have additional work done. I definitely recommend Claymark Homes.
Thank you Ben and Scott!!
"We did receive the report on Angie's List about this client. I checked my records of this repair and thought that the ball was in her court to call us and we just hadn't heard back. I must have been mistaken and let the client know that we had " dropped the ball " on this repair. We have been extremely busy since the hail storm in April and we have relied more heavily on our phone log. Repairs were done as she described and I did them at no charge due to the mix up. We try very hard to uphold the best customer service but now and then we fall short. In those instances we try our best to make it right. I am very pleased in this instance we were able to do so."
