Charle is a very personable person, but beware- there is a lack of quality craftsmanship and professionalism once the job begins. The measurements that he gave me for purchasing materials were way off- not my a little, but in some cases double and triple. My husband and I had to leave work on several occasions to buy more materials or return boxes upon boxes of heavy tile. Charlie does not communicate what he needs in advance, but rather, texts or calls you at work and threatens to stop working and charging you for a wasted day because he needs something right now. He doesn't write much of anything down, which contributes to major mistakes. He blames the homeowner or your house for his shoddy work. The paint and tilers were nice enough people, but the language barrier causes very big problems with comprehending instructions (there always seemed to be different workers day to day-- they seemed to hired from a "labor-ready" staffing office) and Charlie is not around ensure the work is done properly. When we would tell Charlie the work was done incorrectly, he would try to sell us on it so they wouldn't have to redo it- but he would redo it each time. He even threatened that he would have to charge us more- for their mistakes!!! Some days no one showed up to work, other days, workers would show up with no prior warning when my teenage daughter was the only person home. In the end, I had to warn them not to return to my property or it would be considered trespassing. Charlie pushes homeowners to use his countertop people, which were ridiculously rude and way overpriced-- if you could even get a price out of them by the time everyone added in their cut. It took weeks to get a price! The painting was quite sloppy- leaving paint on the light switches, shower insert, trim, ceiling, etc. A couple days after they were finally "done" (after having to re-do the tile work time and time again), the grout started breaking up in several places. When we called Charlie about it, he claimed that it was my house that was the problem- even though we have had tile installed in all other bathrooms of the house with no problems. This was his excuse so that he did not have to honor the "warranty" he advertises on his work. I have since has another tiler out to look the shoddy work, he said it was easy to see the that the mortar was mixed incorrectly. This was my very first experience with hiring someone from Angie's List and it was a very, very miserable one unfortunately.

Beautiful work. We are very happy that we could get our bathrooms remodeled by Chux's. We were well communicated and informed with the plan and schedule. Chuck and his crew members care and protect our house as if theirs, and very pleasant to work with. Each and every day, the site was neatly organized and cleaned up, so the house with small children or pets would feel very safe. Certainly, there must have been several problems for them to figure out to accommodate our needs and wishes. They went extra miles without hesitation and made our bathroom remodeled beautifully and functional. We enjoyed working with Chuck and his crews.

It turned out really well and I am getting ready to use them again. They were there, pretty much, for six or seven months last year. We started off with a small amount of work and I worked really well with him. His prices were good. He showed up on time and did a great job on cleanup. He did everything he said he would. I did not have to call him back to do touch up because we did a walk-through when it was all done. I was just very happy with him. I work in insurance claims and I have an estimating program so I checked his pricing and he was right where he should be. He was very personable. Anytime I would text or call him I got an immediate response. I know a lot about construction so he and I did really well. He always treated me very professional.

We contracted with Chux Reconstrux in August to do a kitchen remodel, install hardwood floors, repaint, and replace some carpet in our new home. All in all it was an awful experience for us. The owner, Charlie went from polite and easy going to rude and nasty towards the end of the project. The new kitchen was planned out by IKEA and we delivered the detailed kitchen plan to Chuck at the start of the project. This plan was rarely referenced and many errors were caused because of this. When these errors were pointed out it sometimes they were corrected and other times it became a big argument. Consulting the plan or calling us to check on decisions would have made everyone?s lives easier. The kitchen turned out well for the most part. Charlie and his crew left and never returned to correct some mistakes and minor damage to various cabinets and trim work. We opted for pre-engineered hardwood floors planning on ease of install and durability. I stopped by to review the work after just one room was completed and was disappointed to find out they used a floor pattern that the manufacturer recommends against. Furthermore the floor itself was not properly secured to the subfloor causing it to feel like a trampoline in certain areas. Charlie?s floor guys claimed they could not staple this product which was incorrect as the manufacturer recommends that option and a quick search on google describes the right type of staple. They also refused to glue down the boards. Charlie reassured us that he would fix the issues in the dining room and would make sure the rest of the house didn?t have the same problems. This turned out to be completely false as the rest of the floor is exactly the same. The floor is only a couple months old and every step causes the floor to bounce and creak like 100 year old floorboards. While we were trying to resolve this he also kept telling us how his helper was being threatened by his floor installers and that we had to pay while insisting the floors were perfect. Additionally Charlie deviated from the contract and instead of taking up an area of tile and gluing wood down he had his guys jackhammer several inches of concrete and then replace the subfloor. We were given an $1800 change order for something we never agreed to and were coerced into paying so that we could move into our new home. As of now we have another flooring company bidding us out on ripping up most of the flooring at a major cost to us. Despite having paid more than the original contract we will be forced to spend another 5-8 thousand dollars to have them redone. We feel that Charlie contracted this work out to people without the necessary skills to do the job correctly and we paid the price for that mistake. While we were trying to resolve all of this in an amicable way we constantly received late night emails with sarcastic and rude comments and were constantly badgered to pay before the work was completed to our satisfaction. The entire project was supposed to take a couple weeks and instead took about a month and a half as we never seemed to have his full attention and many partial work days occurred.
Response from Chux Reconstrux
"I'd like to point out that 'The kitchen turned out well' as stated by this customer. Not mentioned at all by the complaint is that the kitchen plan was altered by the addition of an 8'x8' walk-in pantry that was added after the plans came. It was a significant cost and time increase, as one should expect. I had to modify cabinets to fit things in as changes continued to be made. This is a more than 300 square foot kitchen we're talking about. They added more work to be done. It's impossible to stick to a schedule when changes are made that take significantly more time to accomplish. Also the original flooring they wanted became unavailable from the dealer so the process of finding what they wanted started all over again. Alternate flooring had to be ordered which took additional time. Same routine for the carpeted areas. Additional special-order carpet of a different selection takes time to get. One would come during the day and say one thing then the other at the end of the day and tell me something different. After a few experiences with that I would have to check with both about everything. Time consuming. Extras are due to be paid as the job progresses not at the end of the job. I wasn't paid the final amount due. There was always some miniscule reason why payment had to be put off. Yes you will get complaints from me after asking several times and being put off again and again. The floor I contracted to do was supposed to be a floating floor. That means unattached to the sub-floor. The customer insisted we fasten the floor down, which we did. Gluing is messy and time consuming, I will not use glue. We tried several methods to fasten the floor down. The recommended staples do not work well. Tiny brad nail were used instead. It is not good to use 2 different substrates to secure flooring to: We discovered a 4' wide 3" deep concrete slab that ran for approximately 30' which the tile had been laid on. After the tile was removed we realized the concrete could not be used as a support for the floor. We removed it and painstakingly installed new lumber supports to even the floor out and make it level again because the weight of the old concrete had caused a very noticeable dip in the floor. Afterward we could start with a smooth level surface to put the new flooring on, which is responsible remodeling. That cost was $1800. A reasonable price for 4 men for 2 days plus materials costs for which I was never paid. Unknown conditions or hidden damage is not covered by any contract by anyone. When extra costs are incurred they have to be paid for. I will not pay for your remodeling. There is nothing written anywhere that says I will complete your remodeling at all cost and personal expense or without being appropriately compensated. The floor was done in 2 patterns, both recommended by the manufacturer. As for the statement: "As of now we have another flooring company bidding us out on ripping up most of the flooring at a major cost to us. Despite having paid more than the original contract we will be forced to spend another 5-8 thousand dollars to have them redone." It's been almost a year. Not a word has been said to me about this. Not a call, not a letter, not an attorney, nothing. If I was out $8000 I'd seek damages in a courtroom. Still nothing. Some people don't want to pay, that's all there is to it."

I have worked with contractors before, and was a little concerned going into doing another project.    Charlie is a craftsman and a fine finish carpenter;  he is also an excellent general contractor who does a great job of managing his subs.   Charlie was amazing!  He was professional and on the occasion when he did use a sub, he made sure everything was done to our satisfaction.  I cannot say enough good things about Charlie.  You won't go wrong using him for your project!!

Charlie was great to work with through our entire process. We contacted Charlie for a bid to remove a wall to open up our kitchen and reconfigure the existing cabinets.  During the initial appointment he was professional and laid back. We didn't have the biggest job but that didn't matter to him, he seemed happy to give us a bid.  The bid came back within a day or two and was very competitively priced.
When the work started he let us know what was going on and who would be in the house each day.  At the end of the day he would make sure the work site was as clean and safe as could be expected.  Right after the work started and the wall was removed, we decided we did not want to use the existing cabinets and wanted to redo the entire kitchen.  We really liked IKEA cabinets but trying to find a installer that wanted to work with them was challenging for us.  Fortunately Charlie likes building and installing IKEA kitchens, and has installed many prior.
He gave us a the price for the extra work (which was still a very fair price) and had no problem adding it onto the job. One of the best things about IKEA kitchens is the ability to make changes to get it just the way you want it.  During the cabinet installation process we had a few changes that required work to be redone. Charlie was always understanding with the changes.  He was very fair with the price and would let us know if a change would add to the cost.  He also made suggestions when he thought something would look or function better.
At the end of the project we love our new space and the finished product looks amazing. Charlie did an excellent job and we will consider him for any future projects.

Charlie was awesome to work with. Arrived on time each morning and made sure his work area was cleaned and sealed off so our dogs couldn't get into stuff they shouldn't.
He did an awesome job fixing up our area and working around unexpected challenges. Accommodated changes during the project without a problem. Quality was top notch and he suggested improvements or solutions we hadn't thought of.
We will use Charlie again for future projects, he did an awesome job and is great person as well!

Overall Charlie did a great job.  We love the final result of our basement.  There where several delays that where not really Charlie's fault, it mostly had to deal with the weather effecting his subcontractors jobs.
Probably the most important issue that he recognized and corrected was the shotty electrical work the previous owners had done.
Charlie does not necessarily finish the basement he gets everything ready for all of the finishes that you buy.  This includes counter tops, appliances, lighting, tile, etc.  That saved us a lot of money and allowed us to really personalize the space.
We are very happy with the way everything turned out and will recommend him to anyone.

Chux Reconstrux did a fantastic job - a new office was created out of a portion of the basement - new doors installed - light fixtures installed and relocated, and power installed in new wall.  They arrived on time and did the work within the quoted time and price.  Everything was cleaned up nicely afterwards.  Deal in confidence with Chux Reconstrux!

Chuck is a very honest, hard worker!  His bids were up-front and on target.  I used him initially from a Groupon and was very concerned about going over the time limit.  I am on a very limited budget.   I have since used him numerous times.  Chuck is a meticulous worker that i highly recommend to all.

Bath was in very poor condition after 60-years. Chuck completely overhauled the structural, plumbing, and cosmetics. He works to a very high standard and is actually neater around the house than I.

Charlie did a great job and was wonderful to work with. I am sure we were a difficult customer as we are both Architects and were quite particular about how we wanted something to look. Charlie was very patient with us and always spoke with us about how we wanted something to work out. Sometimes though things don't go as one would hope, or you see something done as you asked for it and it just doesn't look right. Charlie would redo it to make it as we wanted it.
In any remodeling project once you dig in there are things that one discovers that need to be taken care of that weren't anticipated. He was very reasonable in his charges for any of those extras. I highly recommend him.

Charlie was great:  he was on time, worked hard, and tackled two big problems I was having without hesitation.  My ceiling fan was making an annoying sounds and was super wobbly.  Charlie spent two hours working and it, and a year later, the fan still works perfectly.  He also fixed an exterior door (to garage) that was always flying open.  Again, a year later, it still stays closed. Charlie worked very hard to complete these task in a reasonable amount of time and was very friendly but professional.
