I hired Carpet Corner to install vinyl in my laundry room. Last year, I used Lowe's to put laminate in the rest of the house, and didn't like having to deal with subcontractors and sub-subcontractors, so I was looking for "one-stop shopping." Although Carpet Corner's prices are higher, the ease of working with them made it worth the additional cost.
The installers arrived promptly at the scheduled time on the day of installation, and went right to work. They were professional and knew what they were doing, and they were also pleasant to be around. They tore up the existing vinyl, prepared the floor, and then installed the new flooring. There was one problem in that one section of the new vinyl had been cut too short. However, the installers were able to piece it in an out-of-the-way area, where it's not very visible.
The installation was schedule for a whole day because of the need to take up the old vinyl. Much to my delight, they got done in a half day, because the take-up was easier than they anticipated.
The new floor is a top-quality installation, and I'm very pleased with it. I will use Carpet Corner for any flooring project in the future, because they were so easy to work with and did a great job.
We used the Gladstone location on North Oak. Cathie knew her job well and explained to us the difference in carpet and pads. She was helpful and patient with the questions we ask. We were able to take home carpet samples to help us decided. After we decided she place the order which arrived on time and the installers brought it for installation. They were nice, friendly and hard working. The moved our furniture and replaced it as they installed. No damage to any of our things. They cleaned and hauled away all wrappings and swept the carpet after installation. We also received a piece of carpet in case we would need it in the future.

"Thank you [member name remove] for your business and bringing this to our attention. Jessie does good work for us every day but he did not use good judgement and needs to be more respectful. Your comments greatly help us to make necessary corrections and we cannot thank you enough."
"Thank you for your business (removed member name). You chose a great carpet!"

Old carpet was removed; new carpet installed. Installers were on time and did a fast thorough job. Clean up was excellent.
Price was higher than expected.
The installers were extremely rude and insulting. I got to listen to them make fun of the wood we chose all day long. They kept likening our $3,600 floor to a bowling alley. They were obviously annoyed at having to do the job, and made no secret of the fact that they did not want to install our floors. They balked at doing included things that we already paid for, such as furniture removal, even though we had already done most of it ourselves to help them out. As they installed the floors, they tossed their nail guns all over the new floors, leaving numerous scratches, grooves and gouges in the brand new wood. One of the boxes was the wrong wood, as well, so we paid for a full box of the wrong wood.
We complained to management, and Troy (I believe he is the installation manager) came to our house personally. He seemed concerned and assured us that the floors would be fixed. He said that if they could not be fixed to our satisfaction, they would tear them up and replace at their expense. He also told me that when we were ready to replace our carpet, that he would give us the carpet at cost. We were also promised that the correct box of wood would be returned to us, so we could save it for future repairs.
Eventually someone was sent to repair the floors. They did half the job, and left. It was over a year before anyone else came. Some more repairs were done, but for some reason the guy moved our fridge and did even more damage to the floors! Left 2 deep grooves. We never got our full (paid) box of wood back. We did contact Troy about carpet installation before the second "repair" was completed, but his "at cost" quote was higher than the regular price for the exact same carpet at Weber's!
The wood they sold me as extremely durable "hardwood", is in reality extremely soft. If you drop a regular spoon on it, you have a dent-- LITERALLY. The quality of the "hard" wood is very poor, although we paid top dollar for it. Due to the way wood flooring now interlocks, pulling up and repairing so many pieces has left the floor unstable, and the floor moves and squeaks.
At a year and a half, we are still paying on the floors, but are already having to look at paying to have them replaced- both because of installation problems and cosmetic issues resulting from the extreme softness of the wood.
I was really nervous after this experience when we had to replace our living room carpet after a pipe burst, but we ended up hiring Weber carpet instead of risking another fiasco with Carpet Corner. Weber's gave us a much lower price than Troy quoted us, and they did a really good job of installing the carpet. The carpet is an extra thick twist, and they even went over care of the carpet before they left. They were super nice and respectful in my home, which was especially appreciated after the way we were treated by the Carpet Corner installers.
"I am sorry to hear you are having problems. I will be in touch to see if we can resolve the issues."
I called the man at Carpet Corner who I had been dealing with and he advised me that they could do the work as specified in the contract but that if I wanted the flooring to look "nice" it was going to cost me more.
I reminded him that we had signed a contract and at no time had he told me until this minute that the flooring was not going to look nice.
At this point he becomes indignant and tells me that he's a salesman, not an installer and also that he's 50 plus years old.
We told him that we are not going to pay more and that they had better honor the contract they had signed. At this point we became problem customers to them and things went downhill very quickly. A man came out and did a fix so that the tile could be installed but the salesman was right in that it did not look good. We have since had it redone.
We had agreed to pay extra for their tile man to return to tile the floor in one of our bathrooms because my new $7500 shower stall was being installed before the flooring could be put down. I saw the installer putting the toilet in my new shower and I said that's not going to scratch up my new shower is it? He laughed and said no, that would be awful wouldn't it after all the problems we've had. Well next time I checked that's exactly what had happened. He had dropped the toilet and scratched up the stall. He had a magic marker so I assume he wasn't going to tell me and attempt to hide the scratches. It was an accident and he was a nice guy. In fact all the installers seemed nice. I did tell Carpet Corner I was not paying extra for someone to scratch up my brand new bathroom and they did remove that charge from my bill. I should have made them pay for the damage to my bathroom but at that point I was so sick of dealing with them I just wanted to be done with them.
We have an old house and have had tons of work done on it. In almost all cases we get calls from Lowes, Home Depot etc. wanting to know if we are satisfied. If there is the least thing wrong they cheerfully send someone out to fix it. They want everything to be right. The exact opposite of our experience with this company.
We would never do business with this company again. In fact this company is the reason I joined Angies List.
My main complaint is that even though I paid what I thought was more than a fair price for the labor (I was willing to pay a little extra to make sure the flooring was installed correctly) the back door threshold was removed and not replaced. I called and talked to Troy, who talked to the installer, and was told that the threshold had not previously been installed correctly. That it was proper to run the new luan and linoleum under the door and that in order to make it fit now, I need to have the door cut. He said this is why the linoleum was curling up under the door. I told him that old linoleum and threshold had been here 20 plus years and was installed correctly and the linoleum was NOT curling up anywhere. In fact, the flooring was in great shape and the only reason it was being replaced was because I had a peninsula cabinet removed where linoleum had not been laid and there was now a "hole" in my floor. New flooring was required.
I asked Troy, since he was not willing to alter the newly laid floor to accommodate the threshold, if he was willing to cut the door, as he insisted this is what is needed to be done to now make things fit. His response was "we don't do that".
I feel it would have been a better situation if this had been pointed out to me prior to the install, or even during the install, rather that just leave and tell me I need to cut the door. This is their business and they deal with thresholds regularly.
I will not use them in the future and I do not recommend their services.
We have been extremely pleased with the installers and their recommendations while installing. I feel because they are employees of Carpet Corner they are more concerned about doing a professional install than just "getting in and getting out" to go on to the next job. Try getting that service from the "big furniture store."
Yes, maybe the "big furniture store" may have lower prices but will they be quick to help with any issues or concerns that may come up? I know from personal experience that Steve will take care of any questions or concerns that may come up.
We still have 3 more rooms to carpet and will continue to use Carpet Corner.
