I opted to go to a business specializing in flooring materials and installation rather than a big box store believing that they should have ample experience to facilitate the job with reasonably professional results and few hiccups that could have been prevented.
I am not an unreasonable person and I am well aware that any job has the potential for unplanned work/expenses - in fact, I almost plan on it these days unfortunately. (Note that I provided the trim materials for the job and that is not included in the cost)
The team arrived and immediately noted that I had not been charged the a9ppropriate amount of labor to install the trim. I told them that if after consulting with the store I would of course pay for a reasonable amount of discrepancy. They proceeded with the job and pulled the toilet and installed the underlayment and new flooring on top of the old vinyl. If I am to believe what the installer told me, the additional price that they charged me was minimal.
Once done with the job, they informed me that the door would no longer close due to the extra height added by the materials.
(They also noted that they don't make adjustments to doors.)
This is what REALLY, REALLY bothers me. It may seem like a minor thing but I was never asked about the door clearance. And yes it is obvious now but as I noted above, this is exactly why I hired what I thought were 'flooring professionals '- so that they could guide me through this processes and ask the pertinent questions and take care of it. I am a very busy professional myself and I had X amount of time allotted from my schedule to stay home and get this done but now I have to try and locate someone else that can take care of the door problem and then take time off of work to have that job done etc. Yet one more hassle that I don't need.
When I called the store to give them feedback on my experience regarding the door, the sales person listened empathetically but didn't offer to make it right in anyway. I feel that I did the right thing in paying the installers what they were due in as much as I was asked to but the store didn't back up their work..
Other feedback; when the installers replaced the toilet, I discovered that they left old yellowed, caulking around the base and hadn't taken the time to at least run a putty knife around and take it off so now it looks pretty bad. Just one of those little things that would have taken the installation to the professional level I would have expected. In fairness to the store, I hadn't disclosed this issue at the time of my complaint regarding the door.
Based on this experience, I can't recommend this company except where this level of installation is regarded as acceptable.

Staff sized and evaluated work to be done and gave estimate. When discovered additional prep work needed new fair estimated new cost was determined that was honored.

Workers / contracted arrived on timely basis, worked efficiently giving quality work. Work completed in a timely manner and cleaned up the construction debris well.

Original estimate was done in the office - Big Bobs. Actual official estimate as stated above was after inspection of the job site which was honest and fair and a little less than the office estimate.

Individual Invoices for cost of vinyl and supplies and each step of the installation process a little confusing but honest and good documentation.

I'm probably not a good judge of such things; I'm 77 years old & I think that this is the first time I ever had carpet replaced (the old carpet in the hall had worn completely through), and I really can't evaluate the price since I got no other bids.  Bob's is less than a mile from my house so we went there.  I was pleased with how we were treated (Big Bob himself handled part of the deal); I was satisfied with the price, and they did just what they said they would do.  We paid for the carpet, and, as agreed to, paid the installers separately after the installation.  No problems.

They was hiccup, when some of the carpeting had not arrived and we had to install at a later date.  Matthew the sales representative was very professional and knew his product.  But he failed to check to make sure all the carpeting was ready for installation, and it required additional time off from work so someone was home for the installation.
The installation crew was outstanding and did a very good job of installing the new carpet.  Weinstalled new carpeting in two bedrooms, hallway and stairs.
I will definiately consider using in the future.

Pam from Big Bob's was great! She was very helpful and followed up on everything that she said she would.
The installers were friendly, and worked quickly. Unfortunately, they worked a little too quickly, and had to be called back because they didn't re-instally my bedroom door or my shoe rack in my closet. They had actually broken in and hid the parts in my clothing.
I called Pam, who got the same installers back out a couple of days later. They brought the right part and everything was fixed properly without incident.
I would definitely use Big Bob's again for the carpet. The remnant I purchased was excellent and i got a tremendous deal, however, the installation crew - touted as and quot;their bestand quot; was a disappointment.
If using them again, i would definitely walk through everything with them, and keep a much closer watch on the installation process so insure this problem doesn't happen again. As for the quality of their installlation, i'm very happy so far.

terrible, the installers were late and took 8 hours with a 2 hours lunch to poorly install carpet , leaving the place a mess and cigarrett butts in the yard, hours before a cellebration with guests for my niece's last day before she underwent a double mastectomy for breast cancer. She did live with us for the next 4 months in recovery and follow up. Due to the poor installation the trim was never placed in the doorframes The store manager for columbus Arron Lee did try to get the carpet replaced and did take pictures , however his regional manager Gary did not approve this. DUe to the poor installation the carpet is frayed around all the door and tile abutments and snagged due to being so loose. I also is smart strand carpet by Mohawk and there are stains that are not able to be cleaned and is under warranty. I do have a video I will attach. I have attempted multiple phone calls and no one will call me back or give me the name of the owner so that I may attempt to get my carpet replaced. I have sent a copy of the DVD with this letter to the headquarters address in Kansas. I would like to have my carpet replaced and properly installed. I do have a video I would like to up load for you to view. A picture is worth a thousand words
