Avoid this company and you will be spared a nightmare, hopefully.
We discussed our possible move dates and selected our move date at about 7 weeks prior to the actual move. We advised them that we much preferred a door to door move and we worked with them to set up the date that was to be the load date as well as the delivery date on the NC end.
Beltmann called a couple of days prior to our move and requested we change the load date to one day later. We could not accommodate a change because we had previously set the load date for a day Beltmann requested and then set up our closing date for our KC house around that date.
We were advised that we would not be able to get a door to door move because we could not change but we accepted that fact and stayed with our original load date.
The Beltmann personnel arrived on our load date May 22, 2012 and loaded the trailer efficiently and carefully. We were told that our goods would be transported to the Beltmann warehouse in Lenexa, KS where they would be offloaded, segregated and secured. We were told an over the road driver would be at their warehouse within the next day or so and that he would load all of our goods in his truck and they would be delivered to us
The next day, we were packing our cars and doing the final cleaning of our KC home when we heard a truck and trailer pull up to our home. It was the over the road driver coming to our home to load the items that Beltmann had taken the previous day. We told him where our goods were located and he left.
Things started going sour but we did not know this until the night of May 30. We received a call from Beltmann telling us that our goods would arrive in a split shipment. The first shipment would be delivered by the over the road driver who came to our home in KC. Beltmann personnel could not tell us at that time when the second shipment would be loaded or when we could expect it.
Approximately 2/3 of our goods arrived on the 31st of May, 2012. We noted several damaged pieces - more than we had ever experienced in over 15 moves - many of those moves were also cross country. None of the damage was to items we had packed except for a grandfather clock housing that suffered damage because the box in which it had been packed had somehow been stabbed and penetrated by large item. We claimed that damage and were reimbursed.
I discussed our displeasure with Beltmann personnel and sent an email asking for an adjustment to our bill. We heard nothing from them except a call to tell us that the remainder of our shipment would arrive one week later. No real apologies and no real explanation.
The rest of our goods finally arrived. It was a week after the first shipment.
We suffered damage that amounted to more than $1900. We had purchased move protection so most of the damage has been repaired using the claim check money.
I filed a complaint with the BBB concerning the split shipment and the BBB arranged for me to talk the general manager of Beltmann. He agreed to pay an adjustment. This was on June 26, 2012. We still had not received a check by September 1, 2012 so I asked the BBB to reopen the complaint. The adjustment check finally arrived a few days later.
If I happened to return to Kansas City to live and then needed to move from there once again I would not use this company.
