It was between EarthWorks and another company to do our landscaping. The other considered company (GM) was very seasoned, very professional, well prepared, and eager to have us as one of his only 11 customers vowing he would be loyal & dote on us maintenance wise for days & years to come.I told Dalyn I didn't want to go with a" fly-by-night company, that wouldn't stay with us or goes out of business in the months to come and Dalyn assured me he'd stay in business and stay with us mowing each week & keeping our yard cleaned up if he got our job.(just like the seasoned company was promising) Dalyn, ( Earth Works Olathe /Overland Park) kept calling, promising to do all the other company(GM) had bid to do and cheaper "seeming" most eager and appreciative to get the job.The co-owner Dalyn  Buchanan asked me to email him the competitor's (GM) bid and picture layout the competitor had proposed & prepared of what he was proposing and how the finished job would look, so I did. Dalyn agreed to it all and more, which made it a tough decision..A well seasoned landscaper or  give eager Dalyn a chance. Dalyn convinced me he'll do all proposed by GM & more and would stay with us through the years like his competitor had proposed and not quit on us, working hard earning our business  so I finally gave Dalyn the job. We met up at Suburban Lawn to pick out plants and I offered to pay for the plants we'd picked out directly to Suburban so I'd get the plant warranty directly from the nursery, but  Dalyn insisted he wanted to pay for them so if anything happened to the plants within the two years he would replace them at no charge. Therefore,  instead I paid him in advance a $1550 down payment ( a little less than 1/2 down for plants totaling approx $750??) before any work was done so he wouldn't be out any money.  Big mistake. That's when the problems started. They didn't  want to show up and work. It was really cold on their start date so I emailed Dalyn to stay home if it's to cold in the morning so he wouldn't get sick, so instead of responding to my email, they pulled a no-show & worked on other jobs instead of coming to our house on their start date at all, until I found out they were working outside on another job so I insisted they come & start work at our house as booked & not take advantage of my generosity or lets just settle up the plants which we'd more than pd for. . Shoddy work, they clipped the cable tv line on their first day on the job, submitted a bill for immediate payment  before repairing the dog fence they''d cut through/destroyed throughout the back yard, A few days later, he came to mow and  finally "lightly trim the stragglies", Instead, he weed whacked off 2 of our plants at the side of the house which they had previously planted and now refused to replant and didn't bother to tell me when we spoke the same day just before he left when I was discussing his negligance and sloppy job overly trimming(butchering)our plants which we had picked out larger sized plants not to have" butchered," but to have cut" just the stragglies" for shaping which I had re-emphasized over and over to do in the first place before the mulch was even put down, which then a mess would not have been left in the mulch beds leaving our plants butchered  in back out in the yard which he (instead of picking up the overly cut branches and bagging them or throwing them in his truck),drove over with the mower leaving a big mess throughout the yard  and mulch beds. Bait and switch---Dalyn had quoted me $75 per drain( installed),and wrote it on our bid, but changed it in writing our final  contract to $100 per drain which I had trusted him telling him we're ready to sign but he had changed his quoted amount to $100 without telling me and he refused to work with me on it. This company has been a nightmare. We've contacted them several times over the months to no avail.
