I didn't pay attention to how the guy installed it because I figured that Culligan would do a good job. Not so much! The guy was plumbing the softener into a 3/4 inch line but he reduced it down to a 1/2 inch line with some shark bite fittings and pex connections. Their was a 1/2 inch elbow on each of the lines, then more fittings to take it back up to 3/4 (or maybe 1 inch) to attach to the water softener head. So, what this does is to reduce the flow of water in my entire house (except for the one outside faucet that is not softened water). I don't know if he just didn't have 3/4 inch elbows on his truck or what. Fast forward one month. Culligan billed me for $2304.45 and said I was a month overdue! I had financed the installation through Culligan with Foundation Finance and was paying Foundation $407.12 a month so that I could get it paid off within 6 months for their "no interest" offer but their billing office was still billing me for the whole amount. Now fast forward to February 2016. This thing runs its regeneration cycle at 2 am and it takes just under 2 hours to run. At 5:00 am the thing was still running water down my drain. It was stuck on one of the back washes and giving an error code 1. It was only 1 year and 9 months old! My old no-name water softener lasted 15 years! The Culligan guy came out and really didn't know what was wrong with the thing. He ended up replacing the circuit board. Fast forward 10 months to Christmas morning 2016. I woke up at 4:00 am to the sound of running water! The water softener was again stuck in one of its back flushes and was running water down the drain. It had an error code 1. I unplugged it and put it on bypass to stop the water from running down the drain. A few hours later I plugged it back in but it did not reset and got an error code of 4 so I unplugged until that evening. When I plugged it back in it reset and did another regeneration. Meanwhile I had to use water so I have a water heater tank full of hard water. Culligan wants another $175 to just come out here. Their warranty on the board is 5 years and on the control valve is 10 years but it costs $175 for them to come out each time.

Excellent Service.  Provided great background and understanding of all options available on water softeners.  Did not try to hard sell me on anything -- straight, raw data, with a blend of their opinion.  When softener was installed -- they were prompt, ahead of schedule, very clean, with no surprise additional costs.   Highly recommend these folks.

Unlike their competition Bob came out to talk to me about their products and services. He measured for the
install and talked to me about my options. I was able to establish a comfort level with him as he was very experienced with water softeners and their products. He did not try to up sell me and only sold me what he felt I needed. For the installation I asked that he do it and the next week he showed up with two of the installers and they installed the unit in 2 1/2 hours. Their clean up was very thorough and they did a good job of explaining to me how the unit worked. I would highly recommend them to any one needing their service.

I rate it an A. If you call them, sometimes they put you in touch with a technician so that you can do the work yourself. We've never had any trouble with our softener that couldn't be easily fixed.

We lost water pressure inside our home at night. I determined that the problem was related to the water softener. I called Culligan at 8:00 am and they reroute a service man to my home. The problem was with a flood stop sensor and he corrected it which opened the water shutoff valve. 50 minutes (8:50 am) after making the call, he was out the door and my problem was solved. Now that is OUTSTANDING SERVICE!!!

I bought a house with a water softener but it had been out of service for a while. Todd came out and looked it over and got it running again. He gave me lots of instructions on how to run and maintain it which was helpful since I had never had a water softener in my home before. I feel I got a good "tutorial"!

On February 25, 2008, Culligan representative Warren B came to my home to sell me a new reverse osmosis water filter. My daughter who lives next door and on a septic tank also had just purchased a water softener on Feb 22 from same representative. Tired of the older leaking water filter system I purchased a new one. We also talked about a water softener. Being on a septic system, as I live in the country, and having had to replace the original system once, I had reservation regarding my septic system. I questioned him as to the effects a water softener would have on it. The representative "it will enhance your septic system" After the installation I again felt concern for the septic system thinking about the salt wash that would run into it. I called and spoke with Kansas Dept. of Health & Environment and asked about it. I was told No you cannot use water softners with a septic tank. Over time it would quit working correctly with the damage to the system/lateral field. I then talked with Jack Maybe of Johnson County Waste Water and was again told No you don't use a water softner with a septic system. The damage does not occur right away it just progressively gets worse. Having done that once by using iodine soap to clean milk equipment I did not want to do it again. I had it removed by plumbers right away. Two separate experts stated the information that was opposite of what Culligan provided. I attempted to contact Culligan several times from the beginning. . The first time the representative gave me the man he works for. I contacted him and he told me it was not so and they did not agree with them. He told me their CEO would call me. He didn't call. I tried again and got a message - left me name and number. No one called. Two times I called from different numbers and got through and was told I would be contacted. No one called me. To date they still have not contacted me. I gave up with trying and thought about reporting them to Angie's list........ A Culligan service representative called to service the water filter and I then told her I didn't want them in my house again. I told her the story. She was concerned and wanted to look into. I think that was about a week ago. No one has called me back. She also looked at the record and noted I had done business with them for many years. This sparked me to finally write this report. I don't want to see this happen to anyone else particularly if they live on a sceptic system. I now have a water softener sitting in my garage where it has been sitting almost since the day it was installed - my daughter did the same and has a new one sitting in her garage also. Fact: everything was priced together on the ticket and there is no breakdown. I called several times to get seperate pricing and was unable to get it. They would not itemize it for me. So no service on those calls either. My plan was to sell it at a very reduced rate to someone not on a septic system. No dealings with them since.
Response from Culligan of Greater Kansas City
"I will provide information stating that the is not definite proven studies that show water softeners are detrimental to "standard" septic systems. It truly, has not been supported with documentation. Our records show that the customer had a water softener in 1992 on the septic system. I am not the "CEO" and have not had this complaint brought to my attention not messages left for me."
