Initially, we were pleased with the deck. The building crew knew what they were doing and were punctual.

Unfortunately, we can't say the same for the company owner. Paul Callow didn't pull the correct permit even though he looked me in the eyes and tapped his folder saying he had it.

Shortly after the deck was completed, we experienced a cold snap. Several aluminum ballisters fell out because of the expansion and contraction during tempurature fluctuatons. When it rained, a dip in the concrete pooled water at the bottom of the steps creating a slip-and-fall hazzard when the water froze.

We tried to contact Paul. We left messages on his cell phone and sent email messages without hearing from him. We contacted the City of Olathe to see if they had new contact information for Paul Callow. That's when we learned that he hadn't pulled a permit.

We contacted the project lead and learned that he hadn't been paid and that he'd heard that Paul had moved to Arizona. We are disgusted by this unprofessional behavior and hope that no one else is duped the way we were. We are now wiser having learned that permits should be posted in a front window. We fixed the deck problems ourselves and use caution when ice accumulates at the foot of the steps.

Avoid working with Paul Callow whether he's in Kansas, Missouri, Arizona, or anywhere else.

This project went so well that we have recommended this company to friends who have hired Callow Custom Decks for their projects and all seem to be pleased. We have more work planned and expect their construction crew to start soon.
