I picked Mr John Brown after seeing some of his work at other houses and getting positive feedback from these people. I was not a member @ the time. My husband and I agreed on a price and never checked if he was bonded or licensed due to the positive comments people made. He was excellent about keeping dust, etc to a minimum by covering doorways, entries, etc. We decided that he would take the cabinet doors to his workshop..he works out of his house...and sand, paint, seal them there instead of in my garage. I was fairly happy with the finish of everything except a few spots that looked faded. He came out and put something on to darken spots up and it worked for awhile. I was gone off and on traveling all summer and he still had my cabinet doors. He kept saying there were delays in putting all the different coats of paint and sealer on due to very hot and humid weather that summer of 2011. I kept calling and he kept coming up with reasons that seemed plausible at the time. The corbels I ordered had come in and he picked them up to also stain and seal them. September came and went and still no cabinet doors. Finally, October and he came and installed cabinet doors and hardware. The doors did not match, they were a little darker, but he said they'd even out over time. He forgot the corbels, so had to wait another couple weeks for that. We then paid remaining balance. My husband and I started noticing spots of the stain that were peeling off. He came out and did some spot repair and then said some of the peeling was not his fault, but that we had caused the damage by banging something into them. In the months that followed to the present, more and worse peeling has occured. My husband and I both tried calling him and his voicemail was full or it went to voicemail and he wouldn't return calls. My husband tried his email, but it finally said it was full and of course the emails were never answered. We have had to talk to a lawyer. We even tried a certified letter, but no one was home and letter has been left at post office. We have had different people come and look at the peeling and have discovered that his application method was totally outdated, and the areas that he "fixed" have kept fading and have continued to peel. The whole thing will have to be redone.
Description of Work: Stripped all woodwork in kitchen...cabinets, window trim. baseboards. Then stained and sealed all the afore mentioned areas. Installed corbels that I had selected after he stained and sealed to match rest of woodwork.
