My wife found "Roger The Plumber" on the internet. Unfortunately, she didn't check Angie's List first, as she would have seen the complaints about their pricing policy. Their plumber tried to fix our leaky faucet, then installed a new one (which we had already bought from Home Depot). He laid out the cost, and my wife said go ahead. I am not suggesting they lied about the cost in any way. On the contrary, they were quite open about the exorbitant quote they were offering. My complaint is that their business model is apparently the "sucker born every minute" approach. Yes, my wife approved the work. But they know full well that the price they quoted was RIDICULOUS. Unfortunately, they also know that once they're standing in someone's kitchen, there are enough seniors, uninformed housewives and clueless homeowners out there that have no idea what a fair price is, and will just pay it, rather than send them away and find a different plumber that charges a fair price. I have no complaint about people making a living, but we were charged $640 for a plumber to install a faucet. I have Lawyers in Los Angeles that don't charge that much an hour. I went online and found the average cost in my area is $186. Don't believe it? http://wisercosts.com/olathe-ks-kitchen-faucet-installation-cost or http://www.homewyse.com/services/cost_to_install_faucet.html
I called "Roger The Plumber", and told them I felt ripped off, and was going to post reviews to that effect. They called me back and actually sounded a bit upset that I was complaining "because your wife approved it". But just to show how decent they are, he offered to "adjust" the price if I would consider using them again and not post negative notices. Fortunately, I don't need their "adjustment" as much as want to be treated fairly in the first place. Hopefully this will save others from getting hosed. And to "Roger The Plumber", why not try succeeding by doing good work at a fair price, and getting good word of mouth from people who feel they were treated well. Crazy, I know... but it just might work.
"One good policy that we have at Roger The Plumber is... you always know the cost and the problem before any work begins. The work is completed by a state licensed master plumber and comes with an extended warranty on all parts and labor. We are fully insured ,are phones are answered 24 hours a day. That's why Angie says more weight is given where work has been completed ."
On Wednesday he arrived at 8:30am, the morning customer had rescheduled, so my time was moved up. Mike completed all 3 of the remaining tasks on Wednesday and worked out a payment arrangement that was mutually advantageous.
I have read many of the comments left by other users. Especially the negative comments regarding price.
In my opinion the expertise shown by the worker (Mike), the quality parts (warranties), the reputation of this company (making it right, no matter what it takes) and the ability to contact the owner far outweigh perceived savings. A cut rate may save a few dollars today. But, I had to ask myself "Is this a $400 dollar and the other guy is cutting corners on parts, labor, and/or procedures to get $180 instead? Will the other guy still be around when/if something goes wrong? What happens if he discovers additional required tasks? Is the other guy bait and switch?" Yes, I sometimes enjoy gambling. But, I go to the casinos where I know I'm gambling and I have some control of the amount I might lose.
I would highly recommend Roger the Plumber.
The plumber, Mike, checked things out then called in another service to narrow down where they thought the problem was coming from. They cut some holes in our ceiling to figure out what was happening but within a few hours, had the mystery solved and the leak stopped. We are very happy with their quick service and availability on Sunday without an upcharge.
We will definitely use Roger the Plumber again.
Roger and Mike were put in the difficult situation of fixing and completely reconfiguring my Grinder Pump equipment and the associated plumbing. On the night my lower level had fecal matter coming out of the shower floor, toilet and kitchen sink, Roger became a HERO to me and my family for the fourth time. As usual, Roger answered my phone call promptly and after normal work hours (around 7pm) on the evening of my disaster. During the phone call, he suggested a solution to my urgent need and within a matter of a few hours both he and Mike arrived on-site to clean up the feces and diagnose and fix my plumbing disaster, caused by Terry Carver of Plumb Rite. We had already paid Terry Carver in full and over $3,300 to install our plumbing and Grinder Pump. Terry Carver of Plumb Rite violated at least three building codes (712.2, 712.3.4 and 906.5.2) during his improper installation of our Grinder Pump and the associated plumbing, which caused significant back-up resulting in fecal matter in my newly remodeled lower level.
This is not the first time that Roger and his team have saved me. Several years ago, my Sump Pump was blocked with a rock which caused my basement to flood in the middle of the night while we were sleeping. Roger had one of his plumbers at my home within minutes of my phone call. He had all of the supplies on his truck when he arrived, including a brand new Sump Pump. He replaced my old "builder grade" Sump Pump with a new dual Sump Pump with battery back-up and even provided me with two dehumidifiers to dry out my basement. On two other plumbing needs, Roger had my garbage disposal and sump pump battery replaced within hours of receiving my call. I want the job done right the first time, so I will use Roger for all of my plumbing needs from this point forward.
I have been delighted with Roger and his team for both the install of my Sump Pump and Grinder Pump. His responsiveness, performance, quality of work, level of service, knowledge of codes and reliability cannot, in my opinion, and has not, in my experience, been matched by any other plumber in Kansas City.
