We gave this company 3 chances to complete our floors in a satisfactory manner. The first was on 3/11. The company agreed it was not done correctly and tried to fix the floors again on 3/22. This time the floors looked even worse and the company tried to fix the floors again on 3/26. At this point, the floors looked awful and the owner came to our home and agreed.
He proposed to have us wait 30 days and have his company apply ANOTHER coat to the floors. I met with many contractors and also HIRED a certified floor inspector to inspect our floors and write a report. His conclusion was: "To conclude, the expressed concerns were found to be attributed to conditions that are a direct result of adversities that occurred during either the initial replacement of the localized area of a white oak as compared to that of a red oak that still existed in the home, sanding and final coating stages of the floor during its recent refinishing. These matters would be considered issues of poor workmanship that would not be considered acceptable per standards as set by the NWFA (National Wood Flooring Association) and sited above." The contractors and the inspector all agreed that the floors could not be fixed by adding another coat which is the only offer Blue Valley Hardwood made to us.
In addition to the $4100 deposit we paid them (50% of the contracted total amount) , we incurred hotel and pet boarding expenses (which the owner agreed to pay during their 2nd and 3rd attempt to fix the floors) of $514.98. We also had to pay another contractor $400 to replace the flush mount wood floor vents that the company damaged by sealing them into the floor.
The owner of this company WILL NOT refund our $4100 deposit. We paid for the wrong type of wood to be installed, we were out of our home almost all nights from 3/11- 3/26 and were left with a product that many contractors and a certified floor inspector stated could not be fixed with a scratch and re-coat. The only way to fix the floors was to start over which the owner was not willing to do. We had to hire another contractor to start over from the beginning.
I have never had an experience like this and we just want our refund.
"I am happy to admit that this job did not go as planned. However most information contained within is factually incorrect. The job total was $3,895.00 not $2,900.00. They picked out there color off of a sample on their floor and yes after the floor gets its first coat of polyurethane it will darken as it did. I am the owner and this is the first that I have heard of them not liking the color or an additional charge for fixing it. We most definitely removed there toilet and turned off the shut off valve at noon on Tuesday, April the 12. We stained the floor and did not exit the house until around 3:30. It had not failed at that point, because we were in the bathroom staining it around 3 and it was not leaking then. I got a call at 7 am that wed. morning that they heard water running and that there agent called Powere dry to extract the water that accumulated in their unfinished basement. My guys were already en route to put a coat of finish down on their floors, so we could not have been equipped and Power dry was already on the job. They did a good job of extracting the water and drying out the floor. We resumed our work fri., morning, sat. Morning and put down the final coat on Monday morning, so it ultimately took 2 extra days and to my knowledge nothing was damaged. It was a very unfortunate situation, but it was the o ring inside the shut off valve that failed. I requested the valve from the member, but they would not let me have it. To the point I don't understand and is unfair. There job total was $3,895.00 not $2,900.00, I paid there deductible of $1,000.00 and an additional $300.00 for any unforseen damages. They paid me $2,595.00, I have documented copies of all this information and can't understand where they are getting their information. I do have insurance with a $1,000.00 deductible, so I chose not to go that route for obvious reasons. I also communicated with their insurance agent and returned all phone calls. I wanted to make this right any way I could. I've been in business for 18 years and rely on referrals to stay in business. I wish problems never happened, but they do. All I can do is meet them head on and make whatever wrong happened right. I have always done that and will continue to do so. I was deeply sorry for the inconvenience that they had. In the end their floors turned out as they should have. I was told of no problems with them or the other water damaged areas"
