a huge limb from a 60 year old Maple come down from some heavy winds a couple of days earlier. He cleaned
up the tree from all the damaged limbs, cut up the limb that had come down and also removed several dead limbs from another tree. I had originally wanted to take down the whole tree and Chuck talked me out of that.
He was very friendly, gave us some good advice, was prompt, cleaned up the whole yard. I would recommend him to anyone and would not hesitate to use him again.
"Thanks so much for filing a report, and again it was a pleasure to work for you"
bids from big companies, but found Chuck highly rated on Angies List, so I put his numbers in the mix.
The other two companies came to assess my trees when I was at work (which I thought was great). I got bids in the $1000s from them.
Chuck insisted I be there when he looked at the trees. I grumbled, but met him. I'm SO glad I did - and was so, so impressed. He really knows his stuff, very professional and personable, and he cares about doing a good job.
He scoffed at the things the other companies tacked on, and told me about the maintenance needed for each tree. His bid? $100!
I had him back this year to do a general tree check and clean up. Again, a beyond-fair price, and he did even more than we talked about! This is service like it should be performed.
If you're in need of tree service, please give Chuck a call first! [I'm not related or getting paid to write this - it's just been hard to find
awesome people to work around my house, and I wanted to give him a shout out.]
"Thank you for filing a report, and hope to be working for you in the future."
"Thank you for taking the time out of your day to file a report on my services. It was a pleasure working for you."
"Thanks for filing a report, and for letting me keep your trees healthy"
I left him to do his job but when I came back to see his progress, I was stunned to see that he had cut off most of the lower branches (there are now only 2 that I can reach) and, in fact, the two branches are on one side of the tree and NONE that I can reach on the back side of the tree. I'm unable to hang 1/2 of my feeders. To compound the problem, we spend most of the summer on our screened porch and I knew that if he kept the low branches on the tree for my feeders, that it would provide the privacy that we need to keep car lights from shining onto our sitting area. I can't tell you how shocked and devastated I was to see that he totally ignored my request to trim the tree based on MY needs and requirements -- and he chose to trim it the way he wanted. I waited one day to calm down before I wrote this review thinking that maybe I'd be less emotional about it but I was awake all night thinking about how, in my mind, he has ruined our enjoyment of our tree, the birds and our deck -- all because he decided to ignore my needs.
I know he didn't forget my insistence upon being able to hang the feeders as once he was done, he asked me if I could reach the feeders. I could only reach 3 of 6! If he was truly concerned about whether or not I could reach my feeders, he would have asked that question BEFORE he cut all the lower branches off. This isn't some cheap haircut that will grow back! I have absolutely no way of getting back those branches and the privacy they provided.
Before he left I told him how unhappy I was with what he had done. He suggested I use a pole with a hook on the end to move the feeders but that was unworkable. He had no solution for the privacy problem he created.
Now bird feeders are not a big deal for most people but my point is that when you work with Leawood Tree Service, this experience tells me that it isn't what YOU want that matters -- it is what HE wants. If you use this company, be aware of that issue.
"When I was called back I was told that the tree was too thick and that the lower branches were in the way of the mower people, as well as that the grass was fading away in the summer. I used a green pointer and told her the lower limbs with the bird feeder would have to be removed since most were only 3 to 4 ft off the ground. I told her that the bird feeders could be hung on higher limbs so she could still see the birds but she would have to have a small pole with a hook on the end to remove the feeders for filling. She seemed fine with that & when I return in 29 days I re-stated that to her before starting the work. I asked her if she had aquired a small wood pole with a hook, she said she just couldn't visualize that, so I told her I would take less branches off so I could hang the feeders myself since we were about the same height, she said fine and went back inside, when she came back out later she said I DIDN'T THINK IT WOULD LOOK THIS OPEN and I don't like it and don't know what my options are now? I asked he if she wanted me to just quit she said no go ahead and finish the tree which I did, I then hung all the feeders back up myself so she could see the birds feeding. This house sits 2nd back in a culdsack and the street she is talking about is 100 yds away with a neighbors 6 trees all in the backyard that the lights she is talking about would have to filter through to get to her porch. The only NEEDS she told me about was being able to see the birds feeding, the limbs were too low for the mower people, & grass fading in the summer, NOTHING ever was mentioned about sitting out on the porch at night, car headlights and she needed to keep the lower limbs. I trimmed the tree to the NEEDS she told me about, I'm only 5'9" and I easily hung all the feeders when done with no problems myself. NOTHING WAS EVER MENTIONED ABOUT PRIVACY ! When she came out she said she couldn't reach the feeders I reached up and removed it and replaced it, she said that was not easy and she didn't want to do that, so I said I would go to a local Ace's and buy for her the wood stick and hook and bring it back to make it easy for her. When I returned she had taken all the feeders down and moved in different places and a small 10 inch plastic stool on the ground she had used to move the feeders. I showed her the stick with the hook and removed several feeders and replaced them showing her how easy it was now. She then said it looked to hard and she was upset about the removal of the lower limbs. I then said well there is nothing else I can do to make it easy for you & do you want this tool I just bought and made for you or not, she said yes just leave it by the tree. I bent over backwards for this customer and now know what she meant by OPTIONS with this bad report. I've been in this business for 20 years and on Angie's list since 2004 and have won the Super Service Award every year since 2005, so I will stand on my record and let the customers form their own opinions of this report."
