kevin is known in the area for his high end work, so if you want prefab particle board cheapie crap from a big box to just get by, he may not be your guy. He has several sub-contractors with whom he regularly works -- cabinets, paint, flooring, tile, cement and dry-wall. given that, I will comment individually on the results, though as the PM and GC he also has responsibility for the project as a whole, so all individual comments reflect on him as well.
OVERALL: Kevin Wendt is a genius when it comes to taking the picture in the customer's head and turning it into reality. He is a true professional, and above all, HONEST. He will also go above and beyond - he often does extra work at no extra cost when he sees ways to improve on the plan. this is especially important on huge projects or older houses because there will ALWAYS be hidden or unknown problems that creep up as they get into the guts of the house. Because Kevin won't put his name on a half-butt result he won't let the problem slide or cover it up. Obviously, on larger additional work he will notify you first, but the quote he will give to fix it will be fair and the work professional.
CABINETS: The cabinet guy (Damien) is a master. for about the same price as high end pre-fab he custom builds perfection. His work is flawless and beautiful.
PAINT and TEXTURE: These guys are really good. They only use Sherwin Williams high end products and will give you an above average result for a better than fair price. They also keep your info on file locally so if you ever need touch up just go to the SW store and they will pull up your formula. The ceilings are BEAUTIFUL!
Tile: Miracle worker!!! We gave Kevin a pretty rough idea of what we wanted and he returned better than we could have hoped for. the craftmanship (you can't call what they did and quot;Just workand quot;) is flawless and beautiful!
DRY WALL: Great job. No apparent flaws for a better than fair price.
Now the Bad. Nobody is perfect.
I am disappointed with the flooring. We had about 800 sq ft of bamboo and
about 2000 sq ft of carpet done. I believe it was two seperate subs.
The carpet guy ignored obvious squeaks and apparently just slapped the carpet in. He came out once to fix one squeak on the stairs, but over the two months we have been in the house we just keep finding more. I doubt there was much QC done on the install because there is no way these all should have been missed.
The bamboo floor did not go in as well as I would have liked. In all fairness, we picked and bought the material from Lumber Liquidators. It was relatively expensive stuff so there should not be a materials quality issue, but if someone showed me evidence that what we picked is sub-standard I would likely accept the arguement. We have a whole section, about 40 - 60 sq ft in the kitchen, that squeaks and moves, and the installers chipped a lot of the boards. Because of the loose install some of the boards are chipping now at the seams. Kevin told us after they started they had to go by special tools because of the problems they were having with their usual equipment. This tells me they were not experienced with exotic materials. Kevin told us he would come out and tighten the bamboo floors up by putting small nails countersunk into the loose joints and sealing the hole with color matching putty to make it invisible. that was a month ago and I have not heard back yet. Again, truth in lending, I have not been riding him on it and he is in his super busy season. I have been assuming that the professionalism and honesty he has shown so far will hold and he will get to it, and I too have gotten busy so haven't had the time to check on him. that said the damage from the poor install is starting to spread so I will likely call him this week.
To be clear, I highly recommend Kevin Wendt Construction. On any job of this size there will be touch ups.

We used Kevin Wendt to renovate our jewelry studio five years ago and he did a terrific job so there was no question about having him back to renovate our new expanded location. He has the knowledge and experience to handle any job and he's as honest as the day is long. The renovation project turned out beautiful and matches the existing location perfectly. He did a great job working with the old building, even preserving some old vines we found attached to a wall we opened up. Kevin even turned a pair of antique general store doors into functioning doors in the facade wall. When you use Kevin you never have to wonder if the job is going to be done right. That's where his experience comes in...he's seen it before and knows what will happen if it's not done right. There' no such thing as cutting corners with him. Also, he has a lifetime worth of contacts in the Leavenworth area in all of the building trades so he can refer others like plumbers, electricians, masons, etc.

We hired K. A. Wendt Construction Company not only to do new construction in our home but also to fix multiple problems that had driven us crazy for years. Kevin and his associate Matt are professional, conscientious, efficient and highly talented. Not only did the end products exceed my expectations, the entire process was pleasant and painless. From the initial design discussions to the final cleanup, Kevin and Matt took great pride in their work and it showed. We love what they have done. I would hire them again in a heartbeat and highly recommend them without any reservations. Outstanding!

Very well! When problems would appear, Kevin gave us options on how to fix them. He would not build or make something because it was the fastest way. He built anything we wanted and showed us many options. Good quality work!
