Mr. Thompson agreed to start work on the first of August and said he would repair a brick wall, securing it to the house since it was shifting. He did not show up so when I called, he said he would start a month later. He did not show up and never called. One day in December, I came home and found the wall half broken down. He had not called to say he was coming by to do the work nor even that he was still planning to do the work, in spite of a delay of four months. If he had, I would have told him not to do the work. He then cut bricks out of my house without explaining the need or asking if it was OK. It was not. He then left for the weekend, leaving a big hole in my house with the interior wood studs, etc. exposed to potential weather issues. He came by about Tuesday and I was able to ask him to cover the hole. It took about another week for him to finish the job. He then wanted to get paid. I asked him to clean up the sand he spilled on my lawn so that it wouldn't kill my grass and to reinstall a light fixture that was attached to the wall he removed. Once he accomplished that, he insisted on immediate payment which I provided. I later found out that he didn't remove the sand but simply raked it around. He also left chunks of concrete in the back yard. Clearly, he doesn't clean up after himself very well. The work he did, looks fairly close to the original, though obviously not quite the same. However, I would not have authorized the work at all if I knew he would be cutting into my house. The wall on the opposite side is still stable, in spite of not being built into the house but simply cemented onto the side so I doubt this action was essential. The main issue however, was that he delayed four months, and claimed he had been very busy. The only way he could have been busy for four months was if he took additional projects after agreeing to do mine and simply put my requirement aside.
