Harris Foundation Repair

Description of Work: We were getting ready to sell my mother's house to a corporate buyer (adjacent |senior living facility). The buyer wanted a crack in the basement wall evaluated, and their assessment was that SIGNIFICANT foundation repair, at least $15,000, was necessary, I guess to keep this small ranch house from collapsing. Puzzled, we had another foundation company look at it, and the assessment was that a $1500 repair COULD be performed, but really wasn't needed. So we had an independent structural engineer perform a formal assessment. Same thing. We could do something if we wanted (suggested a repair that was the $1500 option) but it didn't really need anything. It was a typical basement wall crack for 15 year old homes in the neighborhood. |Unfortunately, the Harris Foundation report needed to be disclosed to all potential buyers, along with the favorable ones. The realtor said the Harris report scared off many potential buyers and we ended up lowering the selling price quite a bit to get the house sold. |They may do good work, but they may be doing way more repair work than other foundation companies or structural engineers would suggest. Pay a few hundred dollars to get a structural engineer to look at a foundation project before sinking thousands into it.
