Advantage called us the next Monday to schedule a time to come install a new unit. When I said we would not be purchasing one from them, they asked what they could have done better. I explained we were forced to join the comfort club and pay an extra $190 for a service we didn't want. The representative said she would see what she could do about that bill. A month later we received a refund for the comfort club membership.
The experience was great. They were in and out and it was fixed in one day. The system has a 10-year warranty on it, but I put in that for the first year the labor and everything was covered. It was positive and is a family-owned company. They treat everything like it is their own house, I felt. They cleaned up after themselves after the install, so it was really nice. They also put in a humidifier and the best thermostat. The quality has been great; our utility bills have dropped $30-$40 monthly. They were quick and were in there giving an estimate and then the next day doing the install.
slow death in the middle of 100+ degree days. It was a very busy time
for them but they got right out and gave us estimates on a new unit and
scheduled the install. We got bids from a few other companies and by far
I felt Advantage were the straightest shooters. They applied no
pressure and were honest with us about what our needs were based on the
size of our home rather than try and sell us more than we needed, unlike
another national company we got a bid from. There was a mistake made
in installing the new unit - the workers installed the unit one price
point down from the one we paid for, but we had no idea. Marci with
Advantage called later that day and alerted us to the error and got
workers out to switch the units. I appreciated their honesty because we
would have not realized the unit we got was not the one we paid for.
Their communication with us was fantastic, even though they were
absolutely swamped at the time. You can not ask for more than honesty,
good communication and fair pricing and that's what we got with
Advantage.
Advantage Heating and AC had to end up pulling all of the licenses they should have pulled in the first place.
They had to hire a structual engineer to evaluate the damage done to our roof truss.
They had to hire a carpenter to repair the damage to the roof truss.
They had to have their electrician come out and complete the electrical work correctly since it involved running a dedicated line to our new unit and moving around breakers in our breaker box.
Then they had to replace my household items that were and quot;friedand quot; from the outlet that they accidentally converted to 220 instead of 110.
And they had to pay for my electrician that found the problems with the electrical.
Throughout all of this I was pregnant and having complications and the last thing we needed was this very, very stressful situation going on. I have never had a worse experience with a company performing work for me. They did end up repairing the damages but I will never forget how miserable they made us feel even though they are the ones that did not complete the job as specified from the beginning. We felt that we did everything we could as responsible customers - always calling as soon as a problem presented itself and always asking them to take care of it first. We really ended up wondering what we did to these people to deserve such a terrible time and to have this drag on and on when we just wanted it to be over.
And now we wonder what we will do if we ever have problems with this unit or anything else stemming from its installation. We will NOT be calling Advantage Heating and AC. Ever.
We first called Advantage Heating and AC on May 20th, 2012 and this was not resolved until September 25th, 2012.
"Please accept this response: This house was built in 1965. Unfortunately, this home was purchased out of foreclosure and no history was available on this home from the homeowner. No home inspection was performed prior to purchase of this home. A furnace or air handler is required to be on a designated circuit. Someone at some time illegally wired into this designated circuit. This is the homeowner’s responsibility to be aware of safe and unsafe existing conditions in their home. It is not customary or should be expected for an HVAC contractor to inspect electrical circuits for illegal wiring. An air handler was installed into an illegal circuit in this home. When this was determined, Advantage paid to bring the circuit back to legal code, although Advantage had nothing to do with it being out of code. During this process, the homeowner hired an electrical contractor of their choice for an independent opinion; Advantage paid for this cost. When the homeowner made a claim that appliances were damaged due to the electrical problem, Advantage only requested copies of receipts to replace these damages with new appliances. Once the receipts were received, payment in full was made to the homeowner on the same day. The total amount of receipts were less than $125.00. At no time was any structural damage done to the home. At the request from the city inspector, Advantage paid for an engineer to survey the home. Afterwards, it was decided a few 2 x 4’s and a few nails would complete the repair. Advantage hired a professional contractor to do these repairs for a cost of $500.00. This included the repair and engineering report. 100% of the homeowner requests were performed. 100% of the expenses for all concerns by the homeowner were paid for by Advantage. Advantage completed this job according to the pre-agreed, written proposal for the amount on the proposal. A City of Lawrence mechanical permit was acquired and the City of Lawrence approved of all work. The facts are there was an issue with this job and Advantage met all requests in a timely manner. The homeowner stating, “which was why my household items were "fried" from the outlet in the living room” is one of many exaggerations which has been attempted, the total cost of reimbursement for these “household items” was $125.00. Absolutely no license issues occurred; this is one of many inaccuracies. The homeowner states Advantage “had to” do this and that over and over. Advantage “had to do” nothing, a court of law would have sided with Advantage. Advantage took care of the homeowner’s mess because it was the right thing to do not because we “had to”. This incident is a clear case of how Advantage can work with even the most uncooperative clients. Time after time requests were made and every single one was delivered at no additional cost to the homeowner. This is why Advantage has an “A” rating."
