About us

Swalms Organizing Service provides fast, courteous service with minor interruptions to my client's lives. My background includes a degree in Industrial Design from the Kansas City Art Institute, prior ownership of a successful industrial design and manufacturing company in Kansas City and 20 years in organizing and downsizing assistance. I specialize in organizing storage areas: attics, basements, garages, shops, storage rooms and storage units. I offer down sizing help as well. I assist my clients with deciding what to keep and donate, take donations to donation centers and take paper, cardboard and steel for recycling. Trash is bagged and ready for disposal. All areas are clean and neat when finished. I build simple and sturdy custom shelving that is designed to fit any space. Please read my Angie's List reviews and see my photos of completed jobs. Was very responsive and scheduled the service in the next few days. Works efficiently and independently. I could still work from my home office while he was working. Things are much neater and more organized. I still have a lot of work to do to purge and get rid of a lot but I can at least get to it and have a better idea of what I have.

I just had a multi-day organizing and purging project in my garage and basement storage with Tillar Swalms of Swalm's Organizing. I cannot express how gratifying and wonderful it was!! I am a busy working mom so I needed to work with someone who could work independently, and I am so impressed by Tillar's ability to organize without my continual presence. He hauled away all of my donations (which were many) and built tool hanging shelves in my garage. In my basement, he organized a total disaster into a neatly labeled room with plenty of empty space. Tillar himself is a very nice man. It felt wonderful following him down the road after he completed the job and watching my unused possessions being taken to a charitable organization.

they showed up on time was professional you can imagine with 3 boys and 2 dogs how dirty white carpet can get they made it white again and also got out a RED cool aid stain, i recommend them, they are fairly priced,they cleaned 3 good size rooms and a hallway and it was only $140.00 Im so pleased with their work they deserve 10 stars. i will be using integrity carpet cleaning service again

Tillar did a wonderful job cleaning out my basement and garage, as well as putting up shelves to organize the garage. He was on time, efficient, checked with me if he had any questions, took things to be donated to Goodwill, ReStore, etc. and returned with receipts, hauled away anything else that was simply trash, and figured out where to put whatever was left. The basement and garage both feel and look so much better now.

I believe I took about two truckloads of donations and recycling materials from the basement and garage. In the garage, I removed everything from the space, then built shelving along the back wall. It extended over a rear door for maximum storage. Part of the shelving included a small work bench for her gardening - her favorite hobby. When I was finished, the car and all her tools fit inside the small space - a very successful garage organization!"

He was precisely on time at 9 oclock, was always willing to work with me on scheduling beforehand. I was very pleased with the service, it took him just over an hour and a half to clean up the one room and he did a thorough job. My only concern was the fact that he charged an extra $20 for boxes which I felt was a bit steep.

The experience has been absolutely wonderful!!  My husband and I have accumulated extra stuff over the past 25 years, through 3 homes including a move to the midwest.  During that time, our children have moved and we have had several family members live with us. As a result, we have accumulated not only items from our homes but their things as well.  Our daughter is graduating college and returning home and we had absolutely no space to store anything.  I sent an e-mail to Tillar over a weekend and he called the Tuesday he returned, apologetic. We made an appointment for him to view our home and the storage unit, which he did at no cost.  After seeing all the spaces, he made suggestions and estimated that it would take him approximately 4 days for all the spaces.  He arrived promptly in his pickup as promised and got to work immediately.  He brought his own tools and purchased boxes for sorting and storing items.  We thought he would be directing us but that wasn't the case.  Based upon the description and agreement of what would be done, HE got to work and at the end of the first day, he had cleaned out the majority of the garage, sorted everything into boxes and labeled them with various categories (electrical, plumbing, cleaning supplies, etc.) as well as created a pile for us to go through, which included garbage.  He bagged the garbage, boxed the donations and recyclables and took it with him at the end of the day.  The next day, he finished the garage, started the same  process in our storage room and another bedroom that was turning into another storage room.  The third day, the process was repeated with the exception that we had plans and had to end his tasks early.
My husband and I work from home and had expected to be deeply involved.  This wasn't necessary because once he had a plan, he did all the work!  At the end of each day, he would show us his progress and we would do the happy dance when he left!!!  Every area was organized with archive boxes labeling the contents.  Holiday decorations were placed in storage tubs we already owned and placed neatly.  We are seeing surfaces that haven't been visible for years.  We have started on these projects at least 10 times and have never made the progress he has in just 3 days. He is quietly brilliant at organizing.  He is respectful of our belongings and our feelings about them. After offering a suggestion, he does what we ask.  He has a number of suggestions about local recycling, donations, etc. that we weren't aware of and are very helpful.
His fees are more than reasonable for the amount of work he does, and be clear that HE does the work!!  My husband made the statement that his cost is a great investment.  We are reclaiming not only space but our peace of mind.

"Mrs [Member name removed] was a nice lady. I spent five days on her rather large project. My standard rate is $300/day which includes taking items such as cardboard, steel and papers to recycling and taking items to donation centers. I also can take paint for recycling as part of garage organizing projects. Many garages and basements have been overfilled by well meaning husbands, Mrs Bryan had that problem. I was happy to help her get the basement cleaned up!"

He did an excellent job. I was happy with his work. He was able to help me move stuff. I had to move just one piece of furniture downstairs. As far as helping me move stuff around, I think I like the fact that he was able to do that. It was just one thing. I think it was a chair that he helped me move. That was the thing I like about that. As far as organizing, he helped me put stuff, moved books from one room, but as far as organizing the books, he didn't do that. I think that was his specialty. He was able to help me with consolidating stuff together I think of that nature and moving. A female probably couldn't be able to help me with that particular piece of furniture. That was a good price. He was pretty responsive.

I would recommend Tillar Swalm for organizing any disorganized room you might have.  We needed assistance getting our garage in shape.  Tillar did a wonderful job sorting through the stuff, placing them in plastic bins and putting together a shelving unit for us.  After that, it was easier for us to go through the bins and purge our items.  Now we have a nice organized garage!

Tiller arrived right on time.  He began working immediately.  He completely organized my garage to perfection.  It took 2 days for my overloaded, dirty garage to be completely clean and organized.  Tiller put up shelves, organized all of my tools, gardening equipment, plus everything that had been stuffed or crammed in boxes, bags, old paint, many things I hadn't seen in years or though I had lost or didn't have.  Everything has a place now and it is amazing.  I plan on using Swalm's again in the future!  You won't be disappointed.  A++

I highly recommend him to others. He is a pleasant man, friendly, kind, punctual, and wants to please his customers.The job took about 1 1/2 days longer than he originally thought- but his first estimation came solely from 'pictures of our mess' that I had emailed to him. We also made some changes to our original ideas, which increased the time schedule. Not knowing what anyone else would have charged, I accepted the amount that he quoted me. Due to medical issues I was in desperate need of clean up and re-organization of my garage. Tiller provided significant expertise in handling the task at hand. He may not have been as satisfied with the total job as his standards are to do the best job possible for the client. I was more than pleased with his work. He charged a flat fee for his services, plus I covered the expense for recommended storage materials which he suggested to best handle the job. I intend to "invite" him to return to tackle other overwhelming jobs ahead... Like my basement. I would also like to comment on his professionalism; Tiller never was critical about the mess, but just went ahead quickly getting things organized. He was a pleasure to work with and I will be looking forward to having his services again. What a difference he has made. I totally appreciate his approach and the quality of his work.

Found the number on Angie's list and called on a Wednesday morning two weeks ago. Mr. Swalm was out of town but listened to what I needed and gave me a description of his service. We agreed that he would call me when he returned to town. He called a week later and made an appointment to come to my house the next day. He showed up on time and gave me his card my door. I showed him the spaces. He explained his rate is $300/day and the joub would take about a day. I was on my way out of town for the weeked but he agreed to call me the foloowing Monday. He called me Sunday night to make an appointment and we agreed that he would come out on Tuesday at 8:30 am. He was on time on Tuesday and began with the garage. After organizing the "stuff" into groups, he walked through the stuff with me and asked what should be kept. It was trash day in my neighborhood and he put some items at the curb for the truck. We then went to the same process with the deck. He stopped for lunch around noon and took a load to the dump. He returned about 90 minutes later and finished at about 3:00 pm. He broke down a few cardboard boxes for me to recycle and put some old paint into a box for me to take to the recycle center. I am very pleased with the job.

Tillar was planning an out-of-town trip when I originally contacted him but he followed up with a phone call when he returned. He suggested ways to organize and we both worked to take everything out of the garage. He purchased shelves, containers, and hangers and installed them. He also removed/delivered the "donate" pile for me. He encouraged me to discard things that were useless, despite my ongoing compulsion to save everything because I might need it some time. If the price seems high, it included the purchase of 3 shelf sets, numerous containers and hangers. I was delighted with the end result and intend to hire Tillar to help me with my basement later this fall.
