Contacted RJ Tree for a bid end of June. He returned call 2 days later, would be out next day for bid. (not on Angie list but I igured how bad could that be? Everybody starts out "not on Angie list") He Bid $900 to remove tree; ok, how do we get started? He will e-mail over a bid proposal with insurance info etc. (said he was insured at the time). I waited 10 days and never recieved bid proposal - so I called another company -, (that guy called right back and bid the tree a day later at good price). 2 days after I called the other company, RJ's shows up mid-day and cuts the tree; no call, no communication; Turns out Rj'sTree is one guy and some temps. When I arrived home, first RJ needs some duct tape to fix his chain saw so he can finish up (are you kidding me?) Then he has to use my wheel barrow to get the tree limbs out to his chipper. During the operation he knocks the tree over with enough force and not enough care that he breaks 2 sprinkler pipes 16 inches underground. Water everywhere! We get the system shut down and RJ announces that he used to be a sprinkler guy and he's going to fix the damage he caused. RJ next announces that he cannot take his equipment (little dragger unit, 1 ladder and plywood sheets) that night becasue he dosn't have room to take his equipment and the tree - (your kidding right?) He assures me that since I have his equipment (all over my front lawn) he has to come back tomorrow to pick that up, he will fix sprinklers then. RJ wants me to pay him now, - he says he won't cash the check until the spriklers are fixed. My major mistake! Needless to say, after all this, he didn't pick up his equipment for 2 days and cashed the check right away. After several phone calls he came back to dig a hole in the back yard and then dissapeared - he did leave behind 2 cheap shovels. When I last called RJ he said he wasn't fixing the F#$%$#! sprinklers! (It was worse - you get the idea). So I had the sprinklers fixed on my own and called it a lesson about low integrity contractors. I'm keeping the shovels...
Description of Work: I wanted a double trunked tree removed from back yard. Ryan did that and broke the sprinkler pipes too. They were so slow to respond that I contacted another company to cut the tree. Working with Ryan from RJtree was a nightmare. No communication, no insurance (!!), broken in-ground sprinkler system - very unprofessional. The kind of guy that gives small bussiness a black eye and make you think of "fly by night".
