We were given an estimate of $104,000 we wanted the basement finished first, we paid for work as performed. We kept asking were we still on budget always assured we were on target. Then it came to point they needed another $20,000 brought us up tp $124,000. We were told that they marked up all materials 50% if an item cost $100 we were charged $150 so he took us to the most expensive stores plus labor was marked up twice, Then were hit with we need $17,000 to finish the job, we we told him we didn't have it they immediately stopped working, packed up and left. we had exposed drywall in the kitchen and basement where outlets and light switches were to go. The kitchen sink was not even hooked up  called them and they did come back and install the sink. The work was done mainly by sub contractors so no complaints. When we had the work finished had a lot of issues with doors being odd sizes counters not straight. We tried complaining to BBB, but the owner was very active with them so we were ignored, same with Remodel Association. If you want to be overcharged, hire them. Prior to starting the company he as a vacuum cleaner or sewing machine salesman.

This was my first experience working with a contractor and Terry Skilling made it a pleasant one.  He listened to what I wanted to accomplish, asked for clarification, made suggestions, and then set the wheels in motion.  He and/or his wife Doreen were always available if there were any questions and there was continual commmunication flow and update provided.  Josh was the "point person" who coordinated the contract and couldn't have been more informative and cooperative to work with.   Rhino makes every effort to ensure that anyone that comes into your home shares their same level of commitment to quality work and customer satisfaction.
My key learnings:
Timing may vary when coordinating multiple projects
Look for samples of flooring finishes and techniques
Always work with patient and ethical people like the Skillings at Rhino Builders

The kitchen I was trying to remodel was in my parents' home and had not had any work done to it since around 1970.  It needed a complete gut and remodel.  Terry came out to look at the project and discuss my limited budget.  When he told me that he couldn't do the kitchen for my price I had about resigned myself to the fact that we would have to sell the house as a "fixer-upper".  Then Terry proposed that I take on the task of finding lower prices for things like the countertops, the cabinets, backsplash, flooring, etc. and he would be the general contractor for the project and his people would handle gutting the kitchen, doing the plumbing and electrical and all the frame work.  He would manage all the other aspects of the project once I had hired the people - he would contact them, schedule the work to be done, oversee their work.  He would also get the appropriate permits and inspections as needed, including the engineer reports.  He quoted me a price for the project that was well within my budget.  I immediately started getting prices for cabinets, countertops, backsplash, flooring.  Once I had everything priced out I found that I was actually $1000 below my budget.  So I hired Terry to oversee the kitchen remodel.

Terry assigned Josh as foreman of the project, although Terry came by most morning to check on the progress.  Josh was an absolute pleasure to work with.  He was meticulous in his work and made sure that everything was done to his standards.  He took the time to make sure that the rest of the house was protected from dust and footprints and was always concerned with how my 93 year old mother was handling the noise.

The project was expected to take 6 - 8 weeks.  Part of gutting the kitchen also involved the removal of a load-bearing wall so that we could open up the kitchen and make it larger.  Once the kitchen was gutted we found that we had an issue with the structure.  An addition had been done to the house back in 1970 that was now causing us some structural problems - specifically the proper way to ensure the upper floor was supported after the wall had been removed.  Some strange framework had been done in 1970 that now needed to be corrected.  Terry worked with the engineer as well as the city inspector to come up with a solution to the problem.  The solution was not cheap and took two weeks to resolve, but it was not something that could have been anticipated before the kitchen was gutted.  This one issue put me $4000 over my budget, but it was the only item on the entire project that came in over budget.

The kitchen was finished in 8 weeks and looks beautiful.  I couldn't be happier with the outcome.  I recently put the house on the market and the one comment that I hear over and over is that everyone that views the house absolutely loves the kitchen.  Because of the new kitchen I was able to list the house at a higher price that not only covered the cost of the remodel but actually made us some extra money in the sale of the house.  I couldn't be happier with the outcome.  I would not hesitate to recommend Terry and his crew.

I really enjoyed working with Terry, he was extremely knowledgable, helpful, and professional. He was an advocate for us when working with others, and provided us with great advice and direction. I also enjoyed everyone he put us in contact with, and trusted their work completely. I would certainly work with Rhino Builders again.

The work was excellent. We started out by meeting with the owner to talk about our ideas for the remodel. He took the time to listen to us and helped us put ideas on paper.  We had initially interviewed 3 remodelers and Rhio's cost estimate was about in the middle.

We heard stories from friends about inefficiencies, cutting corners, etc. about other remodelers.  Rhino Builders have a high level of workmanship, responsiveness, communication, and completing the project ahead of schedule.  More importantly, they stayed within the budget.   Everyday, when we came home, we could hardly tell they were even there.  Everything was picked up and clean!  We chose to live in the house (basement) while the work was done. The project took 3 months to complete.  Our neighbors even commented on how clean our garage and driveway was when the workers left for the day.  They did everything they could to accommodate us and even our dog.  When they took down the rail overlooking the basement, they put in temporary rail made of wood.  They first measured from the floor to under his chin, so that the temp rail would prevent him from falling over the edge.
They had to bring in a steel beam, so that we didn't have to have poles breaking the view.  While they were in the attack, they discovered cracked beams in our attack, and fixed them.
They totally remodeled our kitchen and even gave us more room, by moving the door entry from the garage.  They work closely with Dorfman Plumbing and they were the ones that designed our cabinets, sinks, and pantry.
I can't say enough positive things about Rhino Builders.  They go above and beyond and are very sensitve to clients wishes.

It went VERY well. Our only delay was caused by several weeks of off and on rain which kept some of the work from being done...all the areas where work was done were outside except the screen porch and they worked in there when they couldn't be outside.

The job was professionally handled start to finish. We were impressed with the efforts to keep the rest of the room and house clean and dust free. Each step was explained beforehand and each of those steps was completed in a timely and professional manner. The end result was attractive and we've (knock on wood) had no leak issues since. We also had them address a leak issue at the deck level that became apparent later and that was promptly taken care of at a reasonable price. They aren't the least expensive, but you get what you pay for in this case. We needed high quality work, and we got it. We would certainly use this company again.

First-class company; NARI-certified remodelers. We wanted a contractor to fix problems that our independent home inspector found. A neighbor strongly recommended Rhino with: they do what they say they will do; they show up on time; they clean up after themselves, they are friendly and very professional; and they are expensive. All true. My wife worked with them every day; they were patient with her questions and responded very positively if we found a problem. They maintained almost daily contact, keeping us informed of changes in schedule, when contractors would arrive, and upcoming work. They responded immediately to phone calls and emails. They provided us with excellent choices of materials. They explained cost, billing and payment in detail and up front. It was wonderful having a single point of contact to work through; we never had to deal with the individual subcontractors if there was an issue. Due to a late start in the fall, the project extended over a number of months, but not because the contractors were not working hard or efficiently. They worked steadily, quietly, and politely. As for a warranty, they will come back as long as we are in the house, and they will come back to check the house in a year. We got to know the personnel very well over that time; we were very impressed by the high quality of people working for Rhino. All the workers came into our home and we never had any concerns for security, even when we were not present. Except for the exterior painters, they hired superb subcontractors; they supervised the subcontractors and checked their work meticulously. As for the exterior painters, they made them come back until they got it right; Terry gave us a price break on one project because of the problems with the painters, as a show of good faith. The foreman, Steve Gaudin, was absolutely terrific, extremely skilled, very professional and patient. Always on time, and always did the job right the first time. After one outstanding interior painter (for the windows) became ill, he was replaced by someone just as great. We replaced EIFS with stucco and could not be happier with it; there was a minor problem with the expansion joints and the company was back fixing it as soon as they got that information. Rhino used the housing inspector s report to help them make sure that at a minimum they found and fixed all that the inspector had found. We asked our inspector to return to check Rhino s work; he found a few small items, but the Rhino owner, Terry Skilling, personally came to confirm the problem and ensure it was corrected quickly and professionally and always with a very positive attitude and smile. He could not have been more pleasant to work with. The bills were very detailed and clear. As difficult as a house renovation can be, Rhino made it as pleasant and rewarding as possible. Without question, we would hire them again and would strongly recommend them to anyone else.
