Since the cost included the grinding of the stump, I had been told at the time of the estimate that there would be a pile of "sawdust" left and that it would settle down. However, when I arrived home I was surprised to see how high the pile actually was. It was unacceptable to me because the leftover wood particles would have run down my driveway in the rain and clogged up my grate which protects my home from water since I'm on a downward slope. I believe it would have also run down the easement into the pond as it left a trail behind in the neighbor's yard. So, the neighbors helped me bag it up. There were 10 heavy bags that I used to create a d*** to protect my driveway when the hard rains came that were due in. I called the company the next day to see if they could haul off the bags. The company they subcontract with doesn't take bags. I wasn't about to dump the bags out, and it would have cost me an extra $120 + so I declined. At the time of the estimate, I was told that they could haul it off but it wasn't really discussed further, and no extra charge was quoted for it either. I seriously doubt I would have taken them up on the offer anyway, but kind of regretted it after I saw how much was left behind. This wasn't an issue when another tree was ground down several years ago by a different company because it was on flatter ground. My only advice to people is to really think about how a mound of sawdust could affect the rest of your yard if heavy rains are expected. I didn't realize the problem until I actually saw the mound of sawdust. I guess some people like it left to use as mulch. Not me. I must say, though, they did do a great job in grinding the stump-obviously by the amount of sawdust left. You cannot tell that a tree was there. Thus, I look forward to getting some grass growing there next year.
