This company was pretty good as Defenbaugh, but when Waste Management took over, service has plummeted. This company is trash (pun intended). We had a long-standing (10+ years) arrangement for our pickup to be prior to 8 am because of a small parking lot. For years and years it worked perfectly. The Waste Management took over. They now come at any time of day. If any cars are nearby, they skip, then want to charge us an extra pickup to do the job they were hired for. Customer “service” is very, very nice and totally ineffective, never delivering on their promises. If an alternative comes up in Overland Park for commercial trash pickup, we want it. Avoid if at all possible.

Since July 2016, service has been very inconsistent. Usually at least one of the three pickups was not made almost every week. Other times a pickup would be made 1-3 days late, or only after a phone complaint. Receptacles often left in middle of driveway or laying across the sidewalk. Customer service by phone was very professional and responsive when contacted.

We occasionally had a missed pick up. The time of pick up always varied. We recently had three weeks of consecutive missed pick ups. We contacted the company and the first two weeks were told it would have to wait till our next scheduled pick up. The third week we were told someone would be out within 48 hours- which still didn't happen. Customer service has been less than friendly! Can you imagine the smell of 3 week old dirty diapers? I do not recommend the company!

They completely missed picking up the trash in this neighbor, which include a number of blocks, nearly two weeks ago and will not come out to correct their error. I have phoned them twice and both times they promised to come out and pick up the trash the next day but they have not done so. The last customer service rep I spoke with was rude. Since it is now nearly two weeks since the last pickup, our neighborhood is a smelly, fetid, mess. Homeowner don't want to go outside in their front yards due to the smell and people driving down our streets are greeted with the nauseating odor. The company is totally non-responsive. I have spoken to our local government official and was told they are considering legal action against this company, but it will take time. This is not the first time this has happened but it is by far the worse since the weather is so warm. We pay for weekly pickup and they don't deliver. My experience is that they will not provide a refund when they don't deliver, which seems close to fraud by my thinking. I would be happy, though, if they just picked up the trash regularly. I'm giving them an F on price because we are paying for services never rendered.

Two weeks ago they did not pick up the yard waste on our block.  This week they did not empty the recyclables of any of their customers on this block and the surrounding blocks.   This continues a history of  poor service.  Their office is closed for the weekend.  Past experience is that even if I reach their office, all I get is an excuse or an apology.  They don't give a credit when they don't provide the service that their customers have already paid for.

They were only one in this neighborhood for over 20 years. It's $70 per quarter. It's hard to contact them when there is a problem. It's hard for customers to talk to an actual human being and explain the problem. They never get out of the truck.

Deffenbaugh has only successfully picked up our trash and recycling once since we began service in the beginning of January. We have been skipped two out of the three weeks we have been with them. To make things worse, every time I call support they "Are experiencing a higher than normal call volume." and I have to wait 30 minutes to inform them that I have been skipped. We had to take our garbage and recycling to public dumpsters because our cans were overflowing.
They seem to be one of the higher priced options to start with. On top of the service charges they charge a fuel cost. I don't see this added cost on the pricing on other local companies' websites. They charge for premium service but don't deliver.
I am in the process of switching companies.

I have had Deffenbaugh service for several years.  In the last three years, they constantly miss picking up recyclables and yard waste.  In the period for March-April 2014, they did not pick up recyclables for 6 of the 12 week period.  They got paid for 12 weeks.  Over the summer of 2014 this occurred for another 3-4 weeks.  These misses comes in spats of 2-12 weeks at a time.  
This summer July through September 2015, they have missed four weeks out the last 10 for picking up yard wastes,  They have missed the last three weeks in a row for recyclables.  In between these two periods, there were misses but not as frequently.
They do not credit you for services they did not provide.  If you terminate service and are paid up in the future, they will not prorate your bill and refund your balance.  So Deffenbaugh gets paid whether or not they provide the service in the past, and they keep your money for services they are not going to provide in the future.

We have to call nearly every week because they don't pick up our trash. We've called numerous times and they can't seem to get it right. My Mom is 85 and it is very upsetting to see her have to endure this kind of service!

My husband is 91. He has talked to him. The guy goes out of his way. Wednesday morning, when he picks up the garbage, he also takes our newspaper and brings it up to the front door. He collects the garbage first. Then, he collects the recyclables and when he does that, he brings both empty garbage cans up to our garage door. I have baked cookies for him as a very small thank you. It is absolutely amazing. It really and truly is. He not only does that for us, but also for a friend of mine, who is a widow. Her garage door was up about a foot at one point. He came knocking at her door and said, "Your garage door is up. Somebody could get in there." He knew she lived there alone. He said, "Make sure it's down." He does the same thing - he'll take her garbage can up to the garage door for her. This guy really is outstanding. He is not giving service; he goes way above and beyond. It's a joy to find people who do that.

Overall, they were very reliable.  Occasionally over a holiday that delays trash pickup by one day, they would be late getting to our home by an extra day.  Pricing was very good with their door-to-door promotion to obtain new customers.  The only improvement I can recommend is that their drivers close the lids on the plastic bins following trash pickup; when it is forecasted to rain that day, the bin oftentimes fills with water by the time I get home.

As everyone probably already knows, this company sucks. I made the mistake of switching to them because they would be $5 cheaper a month than my current service. In the year and a half I used their service, the men on the truck would leave bags in the container and always they were the smelly ones. I just dealt with it as my trash day was on Fridays and you can't contact anyone over the weekend. The last straw was when one Friday they didn't bother to pick up my trash. I then sent an email to cancel. When called, I was told my trash day was Wednesday. I said since when and they said it had always been. Stupid business if you ask me since EVERY neighbor on my street with Deffenbaugh has they trash day on Friday. Hmm.. no wonder they are always wanting to raise rates to pay for rising costs of fuel. They agreed to cancel and waive termination fee. Then, they don't cancel, try to charge me a late fee and when I complained, removed the late fee and are now charging me the termination fee.

Deffenbaugh is our first choice when it comes to trash removal, and we have used them before. The crews are professional. The office support staff is helpful with questions and keeps us informed of situations that could affect our scheduled service days.

I have a lot of cats our trash is disgusting, there's no way to make it pretty, it's disgusting. I always bag it nicely for them, they never once complain about it. And when they finally get a truck few years ago that would pick up the trash cans and dump them without them to manually handle it. They had some of the trash cans that would hook up to the truck and dump automatically that they take around and offer them to people to rent them. They said "Will you use it if we leave it?" and I said "Oh, absolutely". He left it for us, no charge. He said "You've always tried to make it easy for us, this will make it so much easier for us. Will you use it?" I said "Yeah, but I can't pay for this." He said "Well okay we'll be leaving it, you use it." They left one. But all those years, I bagged everything in Walmart bag for them. They couldn't pick up the trash can and dump it because it was too heavy. They've always been professional and these big guys are clean. We're talking about guys that's hauling trash all day. The guy drives the truck and there's a picker of course and they're not nasty, dirty, stinky, gross people. They're not out in the middle of the street cursing and squaring and saying bad things like a lot of companies do. They're always on time and they pick up the trash when they're supposed to. Few times where it hasn't been picked up, I called and has been rectified immediately. When there's a problem like they got my mail back one time cause I have had a fire and out of the place for a while then got back in and the address changed, it didn't go through right and so they got my bill back. When they got my bill back, they suspended the service but I didn't know it so the trash didn't get picked up. They took care of all that, got the guys out there to pick up the trash even though I haven't paid the bill yet and they got everything taken care of real quick. The always put the trash can back away from the edge of the street so it doesn't blow in the street. I've never had a problem that they haven't taken care of and they've always taken good care of picking up the gross stuff.

Everything went very smooth, I had no issues and no waiting on hold when I called

I'm not happy with their punctuality at all.

Deffenbaugh has been performing my trash collection for four months, and they have been great.  They do a good job of communicating when service dates have to shift because of holidays.
