.......... sealed before being grouted, and after, then twice a year routinely. None of the above did the 'tile expert' tell us, nor even know about. Friday they come, start the tile, before our large cabinet is in place, before the walls are mudded/sanded before anything is even done. The tile should have been done last so it can set and dry. They tried doing it first, then walking on it to do the walls?? There are 2 men trying to work in a tiny bathroom and slipping on the tiles. They spent a lg. majority of the day doing only tiles. After they leave, I went in and saw CERAMIC TILE CAULK in a gun?? He began putting sandstone colored (tan/beige) caulk in where the grout should be. It is smudged, and ruined those tiles. (picture attached) Looks AWFUL. Paid $400 on Friday, shouldn't have. My husband left a voicemail for the owner Ed on Friday at about 6pm. Did not get a reply. Saturday, two more young men arrive, to do tile, which is not dry, and popping up by hand, and moving when stepped on. The owner did not call, but the 'new owner to soon be' showed up. We explained our aggrivation that there are 20hrs of labor into the bathroom ,and its about 15% done. The labor at this point, totaling $800, $400 paid to them already. He proceded to tell me that he would 'discount' us on labor by one half hour, because when his plumber sent me to Valu for his supplies, I CAME BACK LATE. He told us that his son did the tile properly, although he didn't use the tile spacers properly, some tiles were touching, it was not evenly spaced etc ..... he told us that using ceramic caulk (which they called chalk) was ok on natural slate. My box of natural grey grout, sitting on the tub, untouched. There is a masonry trowel, unopened, in a bag sitting in the tub. He planned to 'grout' the entire floor by hand using a caulk gun. After I let him know I am not pleased, he takes his 2 man 'crew' for abt. 20 minutes, and they return, but without the co owner. The boys come in and hand my husband a paper of the plumbers home phone number. The owner told us to call him. This is NOT our responsibilty, and we found out the plumber stiffed us on Friday and now today, so they left us to manage their employee issues. The co owner did not even come and let us know what was going on, he sent his son with a number. We called the real 'owner' to get his voicemail. My husband is way too patient & gave him over an hr. to return our call. I had him call from a blocked number and the owner answers. The owner tells US to call his employee to get him there to do plumbing. My husband explains, this is not our problem, owner tells us he will call us right back .. I am inquiring if they have a business lisence, let alone insurance, I'm doubtful on either, unfortunately we will be going that route. We lost $400 and have a flooded basement, 2 young boys under age of 8 who are all dirty from playin outside, and me, who is bringing a newborn home anyday to a day to a DISASTER
Description of Work: We had a quote for $900 for labor only to remodel our tiny bathroom. Work was to be started on Wednesday May 20th & be 100 percent completed on Friday May 22nd. There were to be 2 men working on it each day, at the rate of $20 per hour, per man, so really $40 an hour. This included tear out of old tub, pedestal sink & hardwood flooring. Installation of new tub, surround, vanity, repairing of walls, painting and laying of natural slate tile. To date, we only have old tub and sink out, and a tub/surround sitting in place. They attempted to do the tile flooring. __________________________________________________________________________________________ They started on Wednesday, arrived a half an hour from time promised, began tear out, left. That night, we notice some water starting to collect on our basement floor. Figured some had leaked when they shut the water off, and didnt think too much more of it. Came Thursday an hour from time promised, which interfered with me taking my son to school. Spent 7.5 hours which includes their 1hr break. I went in my basement to grab laundry, to notice in the back room of the basement, theres a good inch and a half of water on the floor. I see a steady rapid drip from the pipes, and ask the 'plumber' to come have a look. He told me he saw the problem, and proceeded to shut of the water to the bathroom. Apparently the valve broke, and water was EVERYWHERE. He found the main water shutoff to the house. As the workers went to lunch, they handed me a list of plumbing supplies to go and purchase while they were on lunch. The plumber who installs tubs and does plumbing regularly did not have a caulk gun, nor caulk??? So I, 39 weeks pregnant, headed to Valu with my 4 year old. When we hired them, it was agreed that we would purchase all supplies. So we asked for a list, and got EVERYTHING on it Wed. night. I specificly asked about tile spacers and grout, the owner, and the plumber told me that the 'tile expert' would purchase them. So I'm at Valu, last second, trying to purchase things needed, which they don't carry. I came back, after the workers, gave them what Valu had, and explained my husband and I would go to Home Depot that night, and purchase what I wanted to purchase, a week prior. When they left Thursday, after a full days work (haha) the only thing accomplished was the tub and surround were SET in place. And the drywall was 'in' above the tub surround. The drywall was not flush against the wall, and the drywall screws, some of them, were not sunk all the way into the drywall. This is ALL they got accomplished today. My husband and I went to Home Depot, where a very helpful 20yr old assisted us in grout, adhesive and general tile questions. He explained that depending on the size space between tiles, we had diff. choices. I wanted natural grey grout, so we chose the appropriate spacers. He also explained that natural slate is different than ceramic tile, and needs to be.....
