However, the dirt needed for around the house was not NEARLY 15 ton as promised. This was evident by the fact that he dumped NO dirt on the drive-way, and had to wheel barrow anything he used from the front to the back. He did the work SOLELY by himself (1 man) and it took him ONLY 2 hours to move the amount of work he used. (This was corroborated by my renter and neighbor were home during the entire job.) It would have been IMPOSSIBLE for one man to spread 15 tons of dirt (a pick-up load is approx 1 Ton) in 2 hours.
The estimate was based on 15 tons of dirt (which he did not use -- more like 4 tons were used) and also the LABOR needed to move and spread and grade 15 tons of dirt in the lawn. OBVIOUSLY neither labor nor materials were used.Schuette still would not reduce the bid to the actual cost of labor and materials.. He took roughly $100 off (big deal) of the $1500 bid price which represented the 15 ton dirt job..... Since labor and material used was around a third of the original estimate, the cost of the job should have also been a third of the cost, or $500. (Contractor actually admitted it didn't take the same amount of dirt that he bid but adamantly refused to accept less). I would NEVER use this contractor for dirt work, excavation, landscaping or grading again! And you shouldn't either! I got screwed.
