The work was all done outside, so there was no mess at all. Hubby was pleased with the unit installed, and it cooled much better than the old one.

I can't say enough nice things about Shawn and his crew. He has helped maintain the furnace and air conditioner that were original to my 1994 home. Equipment that old is bound to break down, despite regular maintenance. My AC always seems to break down on the hottest day of the year and my furnace breaks down on the coldest, snowiest day of the year. But I can always count on Shawn to make the house call quickly.
Smith Service Co also maintains the HVAC systems at the family business (a 15,000 sq ft warehouse). My mom is the person who originally recommended him to me. I had been using the original subcontractor for my home HVAC needs and was less than thrilled with their service. It only took one visit from Shawn and I became a customer for life. Between my mom, the family business, and my own experience, there are probably 4-6 times per year we have service performed by Smith Service Co, most of which is regular maintenance service.
It was during one regular furnace maintenance checkup that I pointed out the dying water heater and asked Shawn for his opinion of tank water heaters vs tankless water heaters. He mentioned that he had installed both and he would recommend a tankless water heater for me. We talked about the pros and cons of each type of system. Because he had been my regular service provider for so many years, I felt reassured that he knew me well enough to recommend a system that would be best for me, but he didn't pressure me at all. He gave me the details I needed to do some independent research on tankless water heaters in general as well as the specific proposed system (Noritz). He also mentioned a Federal tax credit that was available (when installing more energy efficient systems).
He installed the system for me a couple of years ago and I am SO happy with my choice. I was also able to advantage of the tax credit, thanks to the forms Shawn provided and a copy of the invoice. He has even installed a whole-house humidifier for me (another awesome choice!).
I know the time is coming to replace both my furnace and my AC. Shawn and I have already been talking about options and timing. Although I'm the type of person that rarely makes a decision on a major piece of equipment without doing copious research, I know that if I didn't have time to do that research, I would be confident with Shawn's recommendations (something I would rarely say).
Even more importantly, I trust his crew in the same way, too. I know that he has hand-picked them and if they are on a call and have a question or are less than 100% confident, they contact Shawn to consult with him instead of just pretending they know it all. Shawn has been in this business for so many years, I doubt there's a system he isn't already intimately familiar with, but some of the younger, less experienced guys might come across something unexpected on an ancient system like mine.
I can't think of a single instance of less than excellent service in the dozens of service visits. From regular maintenance to emergency calls, installation of a digital programmable thermostat to a brand new tankless water heater, Smith Service Co is the place to contact for HVAC needs.

Shawn came out in a blizzard to fix our furnace.

The best part is that later that day, the furnace did not work and the house was getting cold, with my 94 year old father at home. Smith left his daughter's' basketball game, in a snow storm and found that a small tube had detached. He stayed long enough for him to assure that all was well. Unfortunately, the furnace quit in the middle of the night and I found that tube detached once again. I tried to fix it, but no heat. Early the next day, Smith returned to find that I had attached it incorrectly, reattached it correctly and used a clamp to make sure no further problems. All that with no charges, just apologies for the lack of heat. This service is exceptional.
