Dons came highly recommended by neighbors and the City of Crown Point.  After a ton of shopping around & obtaining estimates, Dons seemed the obvious choice.  Our project was estimated to take 2-3 weeks and we were not able to reside in our home while the project took place (completely understandable!)  We took residence with my family and the project began the Tuesday after Memorial Day (May).  The project took over 8 weeks to complete inconveniencing both our family and my parents.  During construction several structural issues came up including walls that were out of plumb (crooked) and blocks that were not laid level (grout joints went up and down).  Dons was contacted immediately concerning these issues and we were given the run around about both about why these things were not big deals.  If I did not have 2 engineering degrees & a construction management degree I may not have known any better.  After a lot of grief they finally agreed to remove the out of plumb walls (2 of them) and rebuild them.  The problem with the unlevel blocks was that they made errors while under-pinning the blocks at the footing. Instead of correcting the problem, they attempted to cover it up while the wall went up by adding larger grout joints.  Their quick fix did not work and the result is a foundation wall that looks like my 3 year old laid it..  Their solution to this problem was to take $2000 off the price and call it a day.  Not exactly what I was thinking!!!  Dons was also horrible in cleaning up their construction debris which we are still finding 2 years later in our yard.  They left all the metal binding in our yard that held the concrete block together during transit & delivery.  At the time our son was only 11 months old and we couldn't even let him play in our yard when we were able to move home.  They buried a ton of the old concrete block in our yard that was to be hauled away per our contract.  Dons severed our phone line and never found it necessary to inform us of the accident.  How unprofessional!  In our contract it stated that they would install 2 windows and a patio door in our new walk out basement.  When it came down to putting the doors in they decided it was "out of their scope of work" and they no longer wanted to do the work.  They tried to get out of the work and put the responsibility on us.  Dons was forced to hire an outside contractor to install the windows and doors as laid out in the contract we signed with them.  Dons poured us a new basement concrete floor which cracked after about 4 weeks after pouring and the cracks were / are large enough to fit a nickel thickness in.  After 2 years we are still finding issues with Dons work, including places that were never sealed where the house now sits upon the new foundation.  We found a hole under our porch large enough to fit a softball in and over a half dozen other large holes around the top of the new foundation.  I fully expected Dons to seal the new foundation to the house when they lowered the house back down.  It would have been much easier to work with Dons and the errors made during the project if they were up front and honest with us when they happened.  It is disappointing that we had to constantly wonder what else was covered up or done incorrectly.  We've have several people knock on our door since inquiring as to our experience and my answer remains the same ..... I would NEVER recommend them.  Very, very disappointed.  I would have gladly paid more to have the job done correctly!!
Response from Don's Foundation Repair, Inc.
"Well this was one of those jobs that tended to go on and on. From horrible weather to additional work added by the homeowner. Typically when we replace a basement under a house the job will take three weeks or so. Weather was a big factor on this job. Rain and excavation under a house doesn't mix and caused many delays from actual excavation delays to pouring of the footing. Once we were able to start laying blocks the job went as expected. The owner wanted a walk out feature for their basement. That was an addition to the proposed job. That meant additional excavation for a large patio they wanted in that area as well. As were the 12 courses of split face block for that area. We were given rough openings for a door and window and asked if we could put them in. We thought we could, it wasn't written in the proposal that we would do it nor did we charge them as if we were going to do it, but after thinking about it, we decided they would be better to have a carpenter install the door and windows. Because of the confusion about the installation of the door and windows we paid out of pocket for them to be installed. The dirt stayed on the property per the proposal. Because of the nature of digging under a house and removing the existing foundation there tends to be a lot of debris in the excavated dirt. That would account for the rocks and such in the yard. With underpinning of a house the mortar joints need to keep up with what was there before. That can lead to some catching up as you lay the blocks so that you finish up with the weight of the house bearing on the walls. That is where the strength comes in for the walls. Had the homeowner called to let us know of the issues that they were unhappy about we would have gone back and done what we could to make them happy. We didn't know about the phone line or the other "holes" that she mentioned. We have been in business for over 30 years. We get called back by many people who want us to repair another house they have. In fact this homeowner recently called us back to build a garage foundation for them. The foundation is in and they are happy with it."

We had an original contractor that contracted him out. The price was part of our estimate. It was a very good company. They were hard workers that were very mindful of my home. When they poured the concrete they were very professional. We just had siding done and I didn't want concrete all over my brand new siding. That was my main concern and they didn't. They cleaned up after themselves and they were very professional. Their price was very reasonable. In fact, we had many estimates done for the patio and they were the cheapest and they did a beautiful job. The people that are coming over to my house are amazed. It is a huge patio and takes up half my house. It has a sidewalk. They made a step to come down off my house. Compared to their price I think all the other estimates were double. They were here when they were supposed to be. They gave us an estimated time of how long they were going to be there. They told us not to step on the concrete for 24 hours. We did have to work around the weather because if it rains then you can't have the patio poured. We plan on using them in the future. We are going to have them pour the patio to go around the house next summer.
