I am in the process of selling the house and discovered during the home inspection that the builder or their subcontractors had failed to follow the code when building the house. The house lacked weep holes in the brick front facing. The insulation in the crawl space was improperly installed requiring me to have to have another contractor reinstall the mold vapor shield. In several areas of the house, the plumbing was slanted backwards leading to drainage problems. When I brought the drainage problems to their attention a year ago, I was told that because I had the problem fixed on a weekend (due to its emergency nature), I had not gone through the proper channels. When I contacted them after the inspection report, they informed my realtor that they would do nothing to fix these problems. While the house has a nice design, a builder should stand behind their work and remedy clear construction defects. The company hands out thick promotional materials on their commitment to building quality but they don't honor their commitment when their work fails to live up to that quality. The lack of weep holes in particular is a clear problem dating back to the construction of the home. If you are considering buying an MI home, I would strongly recommend that you get a thorough home inspection prior to closing. My realtor at the time told me that I could trust MI-nothing could be further from the truth.
Description of Work: I purchased a brand new home from MI in 2008.
