They are fine as long as nothing too major happens to go wrong or awry. Lease years are August to July and if you are going to renew, you must sign up during the preceding NOVEMBER (this is a college town and that works well for college students). We found out March 1 that my husband's job would be unexpectedly moving out of state within a month. We notified the company of this and asked to be released from the lease that was to start the following July, We were not trying to get out of the CURRENT lease, just the upcoming one. They would not let us out of the lease and told us to list the townhouse on Craig's List to find someone ourselves to assume our lease. I explained that my husband was going to be gone and that I felt that it was dangerous for me, a woman living alone, to be showing my home to strangers off of Craig's List. They were unsympathetic no matter what I tried. In my fear and frustration, I finally contacted one of my congressman who contacted them on my behalf. Then they finally found someone to assume the lease for me. This was after almost 3 anxious months of me showing my home to strangers and pleading with Granite to be more accomodating. Yes, they legally did not have to help me at all, but they truly did not care if they put me in harm's way.
