I was not happy with their work. The price was high. I purchased them lunch. The experience was not good. It took them ten hours to do the work. One guy had never moved anything before. It was his first moving job. They broke  things in the box. When I removed them and asked the owner about the broken things he wanted to know if I saw the workers break the items. The guy who set up the arrangements told me that I would receive some discounts, and then the owner refused to give me the discounts.

Original estimate was quoted by the part owner about 3 weeks before the job was to begin. Original estimate was $5,000 which my husband and I thought was a little lower than expected (but why would we question it) so we didn't bother with competeing quotes. Job was to start 6 days before closing which was scheduled for a Monday so the plan was that they would get the entire house packed by Saturday and allow the belongings to stay in the truck Sunday to unpack Monday. Guys showed up Tuesday as scheduled to begin packing. First couple days were unremarkable. About day three the job supervisor approached me with this problem: estimate was inaccurate, job was going to require many more boxes, wardrobes, men, another truck than previously planned for. He wanted me to sign a paper to waive their obligation to stand by their original quote. I asked to talk with the man who figured the quote but I was told that he was in Vegas and couldn't be reached. I spoke with the other owner in the office to try to nail him down with some concrete revised numbers. He told me that the job was going to cost between $8,000 to $9,000 in the end. I spoke with my husband about it and we didn't feel like we had much of a choice so we agreed to the revised quote. Friday we left the house for the last time to spend a couple days in Chicago before Monday morning closing at 10:00 am. We made arrarngements with the new owners so that I could empty my refridgerator and freezer that morning so I could take those items directly to the new house after closing. However there was a lot more than just food still in the house! As the new owners' moving team was hauling their boxes and furniture in, my stuff was still scattered throughout the house. It was sheer mayhem with my cleaning lady and I and two movers from Two Men and a Truck going through the house grabbing what we could and pointing out to the employees what was mine hoping they could keep it straight and not confuse my stuff with the new owners'- there was still clocks on the walls, a broom closet still full of stuff, the laundry room still not packed, my computer and desk materials on the floor where the desk once was, rugs still on the floor, planters still outside, kitchen cabinets still full. I was never able to do a final walk-through to make sure they got everything. And what a spectacle it was to see the employees running through the front yard carrying stuff by hand dropping things all along the way because they didn't have boxes. My cleaning lady and I had to pack her minivan FULL in an effort to get things out as fast as possible. Back at the new house things were going okay. Since we were moving into a much smaller space, it was tricky getting everything to fit. They got all the furniture in place and then packed boxes literally wall-to-wall. When it came to the basement though, they just literally threw stuff into corners down there. I think by then they were just so sick of the job. They had to get the trucks emptied by the end of the day and they just didn't take care of my things. Then they handed us the bill. It was $13,000! Now, recall the original estimate of $5,000. They revised that halfway through because that first guy didn't know what he was doing. Well apparently the second guy didn't either because his revision was still $4,000 short! My husband wrote them a check for $10,000 and told them he'd think about paying the balance. I'm glad he did because the nightmare wasn't over. As I unpacked over the next several weeks I learned what a truely unprepared, unprofessional outfit this really was. Some boxes were packed as expected with adequate wrapping but many boxes were done hastily without any befit of packaing materials. As a result, many things were crushed or broken. Everytime I would begin to unpack I would get so angry at how carelessly they handled my belongings. It was like they never did this kind of work before. Then I started to realize some things were missing. I know that is common with moves but I didn't lose anything during my last move into my big house and it just added to my anxiety. When I called their local office to vent they would just remind me about the balance still unpaid. I eventually called their home office in Michigan (it's a WORLDWIDE, franchised chain! - unbelievable.) and filed a complaint with them as well. As you might have guessed, we won't be hiring Two Men and a Truck for our next move. Perhaps they would provide a good service for a smaller job but I can assure you that they were completely unprepared to move a larger home. The whole job from beginning to end was botched and they should have recognized their shortcomings and sucked up the hit from the extra labor and materials they didn't antcipate instead of coming after us to make sure they broke even on the job.

All of our furniture arrived without damage... surprisingly. However, we had to request three times that they use furniture pads when moving the furniture... they had been using them only when they got the piece on the truck. The lead driver appeared to have been out partying late the night before and was dressed rather unprofessionally. He was also very curt and unpleasant. The price was reasonable, but I was very put off when this individual made a specific request for a tip (ours was a small move and, although I was not overjoyed with him, he might have gotten a small tip had he not asked for one directly... I was rather upset about this).

I LIKED THAT THEY DID NOT BREAK ANYTHING ON THE TRIP FROM ONE HOUSE TO ANOTHER. THEY GOT IT ALL MOVED OUT AND BACK IN PRETTY QUICKLY. I WAS VERY PLEASED WITH THEIR WORK.
