Darrell's Diamonds

My mom was very ill and she had an antique necklace that the clasp was broken. She was 100 miles away from me and I was visiting her at the time. I took it with me to get repaired because there wasn't anybody in her area that could do it. I brought it home with me and took it over to Darrell. About a few days later, I got a call from my family that my mother was dying basically. I had to make an emergency run to Indianapolis from Terre Haute. I called Darrell saying I need this necklace because it was really important to my mom. He said that he subcontracts this type of repair to another person. He said he didn't have it. I asked where it was and he said it was in Greencastle. I started to cry and told him I was having to make an emergency run to Indianapolis and said okay, fine. I told him I guess there's nothing I can do about it. He told me to wait a minute and he said let me call her and I'll call you right back to see if it's finished. So over the next ten to fifteen minutes, I got a phone call from him indicating not only that it was done but that he would personally drive over to Greencastle, which is probably about 40 from here and get it and bring it back to me so that I could have it to go to Indianapolis to see my mom. He didn't even hesitate at all to offer to this. This is a man I've had a couple of relationships doing repairs for me in the past. Basically, it's been just a casual relationship. The fact that he was willing to do that after hours and make that trip for me. I told him I wasn't sure when I was going to be going to Indianapolis, I might be on the road. He said he'd be on I-70 and if I did decide to leave before I get back, call me on my cell and we'll meet on I-70 and I'll give you the necklace. This is story of what this man did for me. The way it turned out, he got back and called me immediately. I went over to his store, which is about 5 minutes from my house. I was able to get it and make it to Indianapolis in plenty of time. Thankfully, my mother did recover but I was able to put the necklace on her neck. She never takes it off. Every time I see that necklace, I think of Darrell and the kindness and the extraordinary service that this man did for me in an unbelievably stressful situation. It just shows the type of professionalism and compassion that he has for what he does and for people. He went away from the service he does. At the time that I was going through this, it was just so selfless.
