Trusted the builder because they were the original builder of the home, we had no issues with them during that transaction. When we suffered from the fire, they were the first we thought of, as they built the home we thought they were the best option.
Our insurance company was more than generous in the funds for the rebuild, very specific details to each item/area and what was to be done in each area. IE, rewire entire house, re-plumbing the entire house, cleaning and sealing every stud that was exposed, generous funds were allotted for these tasks. It became clear early on that they were either cutting corners or not reading the details given for the tasks.
Communications were the worst we have ever experienced. Too many corners were trying to be cut.
We had to spend many of our own personal hours going over figures to provide to them, weeks would pass before any response was made, then when a response came in (giving the impression it was being worked on) their calculations would be totally off or wrong, showing no effort was put into reading the adjusters figures.
We were given a
2 week window as to completion so that we could set up for an inspection with the mortgage company, so that the final funds could be released. No one from their company even bothered to show up for this inspection, as the house was clearly not ready for inspection, nor could it ever pass inspections.
All in ALL,, it took them 9 months to restore our home. They have built homes faster than this.
There was thought that the keys to the home could be kept from us until final payment. They had no ownership in the home, so trying to hold the keys for payment was construed as illegal.
We will also be filing a complaint with the Home Builders Association.
