I purchased my kitchen granite top which included installation and measure and my bathrooms were from the smaller remnants section that did not include installation and measure.
I brought my measurements and had measured it out in the wrong units and had to make unit conversions on site. While doing so, i actually used the wrong conversion factor, but it was really ok since i over measured by 20% and in the remnants sale, you had to also pay for the wastage. So we were 100% sure it will fit since we found pieces that were over measured for by a factor of 20%. I realized it much later after we selected and were about to pay, and made sure it still work and it did. Kevin was the operations supervisor so i bet he knew what he was talking about. He even told me that since we had so much more material we could change the seams to a better location.
As for the pricing, they offered that since they were out there doing a measure and i had bough a big piece for my kitchen that they were not going to charge me for the measure for the bathrooms and the install price would be based on the installed sq feet for the bathroom. I clarified that for the prices i paid for, it would include EVERYTHING in the installation and the customer service person Lacy confirmed it. We paid and were super excited to get it installed.
An appoint was made to measure and they had a precision laser system and we were impressed. We told the person measuring all the things we wanted done and it was all good. They sent me the final drawings two nights before installation as they were going to fabricate it the day before installation. The drawings did take into account everything i wanted. This is where things started to go downhill.
The day before the installation, i get a call and am told they want to charge me $140 for 2 steel support bars to be installed. I was not too happy about that since shouldn't this be part of the installation price for it to be installed the way it needs to be? They said that they could not install the bars and it would be fine, however, there is a chance the granite might crack since i have a overhang on the main counter top with bar stools below. It was just a small over hang of 12 inches. So in any case after some to and fro, i finally agree to pay although i really felt that it should be part of the install price as i had clarified.
On the day of the installation, the crew arrived and were extremely professional. An older guy and a younger guy arrived and two of them had to lift all the granite into my bi-level house which seems a little too much for the older guy. The main kitchen piece probably weighed over 1000 lbs. They could not lift it up my stairs so i had to help, which was not a problem for me. They really hustled it and got it installed.
After the install, i realize that the overhang for my bar stools area did not look right. It was short. I clarified with the installers who showed me the drawings they had and confirmed that instead of a 12 inch overhang, they fabricated a 10 inch overhang which kinda made it too short of its intended purpose. Sure it may be 2 inches, but between 10 and 12, that is 20% and that was the difference was noticeable enough for me to spot it without the tape measure. The installers acknowledged the mistake and said they would have someone call me. On top of that, they had left me a whole bunch of granite leftovers.
3 days passed and no one called so i decided to call back. I spoke with Lacy who did some investigations and later told me that they had intentionally cut it shorter to avoid a spot in the granite that was bad. This was something i did not accept since they had ample time to call me to discuss options with me (which they did not and would have totally changed the situation if they did), they left me so much extra material since we over measured and we made sure to fully inspect the pieces with Kevin who said that our pieces were immaculate. I had asked point blank that they had sent me final drawings and if there had to be changes, shouldn't they call and clarify. Both Lacy and her boss Sky had no answer to that. They keep telling me that the granite is bought as is. I completely agree and signed off that it is bought as is and that is why we made sure to inspect it and ensure that there are no flaws. So i asked for a picture of the flaws or the parts they cut out and they were not able to produce any,
In fact they seemed more caught up trying to ignore my concerns and told me that i already had an excellent deal on the sale. Sky even went so far as to say that they miscalculated the install charge and they should be charging me more instead and taking off what they did not install, i ended up owing them money. Firstly, she was not there when the manager at the sale agreed not to charge me for the measure and charge me install based on the installed sq footage versus the remnant sq footage. Who charges install based on the whole piece versus the installed piece anyways? Also, the granite was not sealed when it was installed contrary to what they say. We got all sorts of water stains. They told us that we are welcome to purchase a sealer from them to fix that, however they said that all granite they sell are factory sealed. It was clear it was not and again here they did not seem interested to make things right. Anyways, their final ultimatum was they can come and take everything away and refund my money, which would leave me with a kitchen with no countertops which obviously does not work for me and a stupid suggestion.
These people will not own up to their mistakes and are completely and absolutely ridiculous and unprofessional. They did not care about making things right and had poor delusional customer service. I now have a bar top area that is too shallow to sit comfortable without having to jam my knees into the counter to sit deep enough to use it for its intended purpose.
"The previous owners sold the business within 3 months of this issue, so their interest was likely waining, but I cannot speak for them. I purchased the business, and I'm sure others will agree our responsiveness and dedication to quality has increased since. I'm sorry for the experience [Member Name Removed] had with the previous owners. I was not there at the time to make things right."
While the draftsman was measuring the vanity for the counter—the last of three to come from our slab—we asked how much of the slab was left. He answered that one piece was about 10 inches by 12 feet, and another was about three feet square. We had planned to use any remaining granite for caps on the shower wall and curb. The square piece alone accommodated those caps, so the draftsman suggested that the long piece be used for a tub surround—something we never had considered. Together, we designed the surround on the spot. The cut-out soap dishes—in our opinion the best features of the surround (see the photo) were his idea. In combination with the vanity countertop and the granite caps in the shower, the tub surround creates a continuity in the master bath that otherwise would not have been there.

QSI used a laser system to measure the kitchen surfaces. (The bathroom counters and backsplashes required only a tape measure. :-) We received the quote in a short time, and it was low enough that we didn't seek other bids. The counters were completed and installed on schedule. The quality was excellent, particularly the edge-buffing.
The island countertop was about seven feet square. It weighted 850 pounds, so installation was nontrivial. With four installers present, the installation was smooth.
Because of an unusual design fillip in our range, QSI had to come back and cut two small notches in the island countertop. They responded quickly and effectively to the issue.
We took advantage of QSI's annual sale of granite remnants and discontinued slabs. We visited their yard to close the kitchen purchase on the same day as the annual sale. Knowing that we would remodel our bathrooms, we hunted out a full slab that would cover all three baths. The price of full slabs included cutting, delivery and installation. We were allowed to leave some of the slab with QSI until the third bath is ready for counters. (After the third bath counters are cut, there may be enough granite left over for a fireplace mantle piece or a facing piece for a jetted tub. We can hope, anyway...) A present surprise was that because we purchased during the annual sale, we got a 10% discount on both the full slab and the kitchen order.
"Ownership changed since this issue. I was not around then to make things right. Price seems reasonable for services performed, so it appears that the real issue was not being expensive, but non disclosed costs arrising during the install. We no longer operate in this manner. Communication has improved and we strive for quality and customer satisfaction. I'm sure the experience would be different if it happened with the new ownership."
