We contracted with ADT approximately two years ago for home security system.  We chose them based on name recognition and price.  The salesman came to our home to "close" the deal.  He was likable but very slick.  When we questioned a three year contract, he assured us we would be able to work around that if need be.  So we recently sold our beautiful home and after the most frustrating series of prompts, countless repeating of information, many transfers, were finally connected to a relocation "specialist" .  Since we were moving out of the country, we had no further need for their services,  Then then informed me that we would need to continue to pay for the next year (the third year).  
The service was nonexistent to poor at best.  The noise detection alarms would go off for no apparent reason, when calling ADT, the personnel didn't know how to turn them off and scheduled a service appointment.  The next morning the system was fine.  I gave up calling them because they were mostly useless.  I never did receive one call when an alarm would go off.  The only good thing about it was have yard signs.
Previously, in another home, we used a local company that was more expensive but provided wonderful service and alarms that actually worked well.  After the first month with ADT, I was sorry I didn't go with SCI again.
Remember the adage, "You get what you pay for."  And in our case we're paying for NOTHING for a full year due to a shady salesman and a totally non-responsive company.

ADT practices deception business practices, "gotcha" types of contracts, and has poor customer service even poorer resolution skills. I would avoid any contract with ADT as you will find them impossible to deal with, more expensive than other similar companies, and hidden fees galore.

I am looking for alternatives.

They offer pretty good service. We don't hear much from them so I'm a little disappointed with that. I would like for them to call and have some kind of contact with us. They did come down on their price when they found out we were going to have another company to come it. The prices are reasonable. The other company did find one of ADT's alarms not to be hooked up, so they hooked it up for me. I did tell ADT that the other company hooked it up. You would think they would call you twice a year to make sure everything is working. They were very punctual when I called them to come out.

They do a good job and I will continue to use and recommend them.

They did a great job. I think they were a professional team of nice people.
