It went okay. The cost for the work was by far the best out of all of the quotes we received. The man that came to the house to give the estimate impressed my husband as being very knowledgeable and capable. He was not a salesperson, but someone that sounded like they knew what they were talking about.
Once we decided to go with Stash it seemed like it took a long time to actually get them scheduled to come and perform the work, but I think we had unrealistic expectations that they would be able to schedule us in the next few weeks. In reality it took about a month and a half to get an actually date scheduled for the work to start.
The pump and fan installation were done in one day with no issue.
The tiling work was great. Only issue that arose was when the worker tiled around vanity and toilet instead of pulling them out. I would not have caught it myself, but my husband went down there to inspect it once the man was gone for the day and noticed. I found it unsettling that he would have decided to take that shortcut, especially considering that pulling and replacing the vanity and toilet were specifically mentioned in the quote. My husband called the project supervisor and left a message that it needed to be redone according to the quote. The project supervisor never returned the phone call. Instead, the worker came in the next day and asked my husband what the problem was. My husband told him he had to pull the vanity and toilet, not just tile around them. The worker explained that he had decided not to pull the vanity sink because he was concerned it might break. My husband had him pull it anyhow. The issue was fixed that day.
We ended up replacing the toilet, instead of putting the old one back in. The worker said he would haul away the toilet. Unfortunately, it did not fit in his truck so he told us he would come back for it. After two days, we figured he was never coming back for it. Not a big deal though, we just put it out with the rest of the garbage.
All in all, not a horrible experience. The floor looks awesome.
After replacing flooring, for the second time, they put the old cheap crappy molding in, I had purchased new molding for bathroom..It disappeared!! Yes stolen! Electrical outlets installed east west, north south... no reason.. plain .sloppy..I will just say... electrician. a reject like everything else that Stash tried pushing off on me..FOR BIG MONEY!!!!!
Can not hang bathroom mirror flush to back of sink counter due to electrical box positioned wrong..and this is a 7 x 9 bathroom, plenty of room to make it smooth..they had no clue what to do.
Door to bathroom had to come from a garbage dump they pulled it out from. When installed the door knob it is 29" from the ground.!! Painters treated my clean basement that has living quarters, like a broiler room!!...Mud, glue, paint spilled and tracked everywhere, on floor, stairs, new utility tub, HD washer and dryer...and I left sheets down there to have them use ..I never new when workers would show up sometimes for 2 days then not for 2 weeks..They even had the nerve to use my tools, and my supplies and yes electrical items missing, gone, STOLEN!
Wood railing /spindles, were not the ones I picked out, again, that all had to be replaced, and re-installed, Installer had NO clue how to incorporate with wall plan..left holes where he had to use saws all to correct mistakes..Never patched, painted or cleaned up any messes or errors!!!
1. They were highly reviewed and rated.
2. They are local.
3. They were listed as a "preferred" company by our insurance company, The Hartford.
4. They were significantly lower in their estimate for the non-covered work, compared to two other highly reviewed companies.
All contacts with the company were handled in a professional and business-like manner; from the
first phone contact with the office, several visits with Josh, the estimator, even interacting with the workers on the crews, especially Mike, who accommodated some special requests, including the follow up visit to perform the final touch-up and detailing.
The work was done according to the agreed upon schedule and price. To help in our decision of roof shingle type and color, they provided online photos and addresses of completed jobs so that we could see the work for ourselves. Some special requests were also made to Josh such as: cutting extra vent holes along the entire length of the house soffits, which was not a part of the claim, and for which there was no charge; installing a bath vent and flashing, again no charge; and finally, the special and careful attention which Josh applied to the color matching and hand painting of the very visible chimney flashing. This special attention to detail and to the attempt to satisfy this client made a very positive impression on me.
I approached the process of finding a contractor and then dealing with the daily oversight of the details of the project with great concern. The reviews and advice provided on Angie's List greatly simplified my work in this case. I will certainly contact STASH Construction first for my upcoming interior remodeling projects. Based on their fine work and the overall excellent experience, I do highly recommend them.
I would absolutely recommend.
The gentleman was Stash was professional, cordial and I have had no problems since. I would definitely use them again in the future.
area thoroughly. Josh and Aaron went out of their way to make sure I approved their work. Very satisfied. Will probably
hire them to do future projects.
OH, SO I POSTED THIS ON HERE AND THEN RECEIVED A LETTER IN THE MAIL FROM A LAWYER STATING THAT IF I DON'T REMOVE THIS POST FURTHER ACTION WILL OCCUR AS DEFAMATION OF CHARACTER AND FALSIFYING INFORMATION. THEY ALSO WANTED TO ALL OF THE SUDDEN FIX WHAT THEY HAD DID WRONG (THIS WAS STATED OVER A PHONE CALL) NOW THAT I'M POSTING IT ON SOCIAL MEDIA AND REPORTING THEM TO THE BBB. I DON'T WANT THEM TO FIX IT, I WANT TO MAKE SURE EVERY TIME SOMEONE COMES TO MY HOME THEY SEE THE POOR JOB THAT WAS DONE. AND, I WANT TO WARN EVERYONE OF WHAT COULD HAPPEN IF THEY ARE NOT CAREFUL. THEY WILL NEVER BE WELCOMED ON MY PROPERTY AGAIN, SO, I'M NOT SEEKING ANYTHING BUT MAKING SURE THAT PEOPLE BECOME AWARE. PLEASE CHECK OUT THE PICTURE AS IT SPEAKS FOR ITSELF. IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN REDONE RIGHT AWAY.
OH, AND THERE IS TONS MORE I COULD PUT ON HERE ABOUT HOW HORRIBLE I THINK IT WAS WORKING WITH THEM BUT THERE ISN'T ENOUGH TIME IN THE WORLD, IN MY OPINION. ALSO, IN MY OPINION, JUST MAKE SURE YOU GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING FROM QUOTES TO WARRANTIES!! PLEASE LEARN FROM MY LESSON. YES, I AM SCORNED AS THIS WAS MY FIRST EXPERIENCE WORKING WITH A CONTRACTOR, I WILL PROBABLY NEVER TRUST A CONTRACTOR EVER AGAIN AND IT HURTS KNOWING THAT PEOPLE CAN GET AWAY WITH CERTAIN THINGS. AND YES, THIS IS ALL BASED OFF MY OPINIONS BUT I ADDED A PICTURE JUST TO SHOW THE DIFFERENCE IN COLOR OF THE ROOF. AND, I WOULD HAVE POSTED ON HERE SOONER BUT I DIDN'T WANT TO RUIN THE CHANCE OF HAVING MY WARRANTIES FILLED IF SOMETHING WENT WRONG. BUT, SINCE I HAVE BEEN FIXING THE MISTAKES THUS FAR BY MYSELF, I FEEL I NEED TO WARN MY PEERS.
"Member, we are sorry for your experience. However, there are a few important details that have been left out of your version of the events. My response is inline: Approximate Cost: $4,700.00 Stash: The cost bid to do the entire slope of the roof was $4200 to include all other work stated below. She chose to do work totaling $2919.00 Description Of Work: I had some work done on my roof. I may be off on the pricing! Stash: She had us perform many more tasks than identified here, for far less money then noted. Please read below. Member Comments: Replaced shingles on my roof. Stash: She had us remove three skylights, reframe the voids, re-roof, reflash around entire roof, perform some maintenance around the chimney and some other items like permits, dumpsters, etc…(total cost $2919) They used shingles that were light grey when my roof is dark grey. They told me it is the exact same color which it clearly isn't. Stash: Although the color of shingles on her home were no longer available, she chose the color with the help of a roofer and his assistant. Once the shingles were selected, the project manager was notified as he was on-site. And, the date is of this month because they even told me since the shingles were the same color they would blend after a year, well, its been a few seasons and no color change has occurred. Stash: Please see the attached pictures. The orientation is off because there were taken on the roof…but the color is clearly much lighter in them. These were taken in November of last year when the work was performed. In MY own opinion, I think they just used shingles left over from another job. Stash: The shingles were ordered from Allied Supply in Merrillville according to her selection Also, the price. I was mislead. Stash: She was quoted a price of $4200 to re-roof the entire slope and remove three skylights, reframe the voids, re-roof, reflash around entire roof, perform some maintenance around the chimney and some other items like permits, dumpsters, etc… Stash: In order to save money, she chose to only replace the portion of the roof that covered up to the voids left by the skylights. That is why the distinct line is apparent in her picture. In response to our lawyer: Member, Our lawyer did reach-out regarding the posts. As noted, the accounts you’ve represented are not complete and do not share the actual events. Since we have offered to rectify the situation and that offer has been declined, our hope is that you choose to accurately portray the events here and with visitors to your home. Once again, we are very sorry for your experience. Our 30 year record in business and our long history with a BBB A+ rating stand on their own. As with all home owners that become clients, we are willing to visit and check the home for warranty issues or defects… we can also make some suggestions on how to match the rest of the slope if aesthetics are your main concern."
