Auto Body Work
I was thinking about getting the truck painted and he said there was no need that they could do touch ups and then wetsand the vehicle. I found some areas on the truck that had been wetsanded too much and they had burned through the clear coat and paint. They told me that the wax used ate through the paint. I called the company who makes the wax and they stated that their product could not have done that. I also took my vehicle to another shop to take a look and he told me that the product could not have done that and it was the result of too much sanding.
Response from Burt's Body Shop Inc
"There is some information that should be brought to your attention and pertains to this situation. 1. The vehicle is question is a 2009 Toyota Tacoma truck not a 2001. 2. When this member first talked to me about his tail gate, he was advised not do anything at this time because the tail gate would most likely continue to get chipped just from normal use. He did not want to let it go. At that time, he was told that he should try touching up, wet sanding and then polishing the areas. He was given no guarantee that this would make it look as he wished. He agreed to let us try this process; The work was performed on May 11,2010. The cost was $30.00. The member did return and tell us that he did not like how this process turned out and he would like to h~ve the tail gate painted. He was given a price of approximately $275.00 to paint the outside of the tail gate. At this time, he did not tell us to go ahead with the work.. 3. The member told me that he had already tried to polish the areas on the tail gate that we did the same thing to, so some of, if not all, the areas that we worked on had already had the same thing done to them before we ever tried to work on it. Therefore, some of the paint in these areas was already thin and we were not aware of it. Then he said that he put wax on it to try to help the look. If wax is put on a vehicle that has new paint on it, even an very small amount of paint, the wax closes the pores of the paint and does not let it cure properly. When those pores are closed, problems will arise. 4. In the course of my conversation with this member before any work was done; he stated that several dealerships in our area have told him not to come back to have any work done by them--those dealerships being Gates Toyota in South Bend; and Jordan Toyota in Mishawaka. 5. This member was charged $30.00 for the work that we did for him. When he said he didn't like how it turned out, he was given a price to have the outside of the tailgate painted which was approximately $275.00. How can he ask for a refund of over $500.00 when he only paid $30.00 in the first place and was also told that we could paint the tailgate for approximately $275.00? We are willing to talk with him to reach a resolution of this matter. We prefer that a resolution be reached between the body shop and this member and not go through a third party. We feel that request in not unreasonable."
