Jim McGee was our son's private piano instructor from elementary school as a beginner continuing through his college years (he is now a senior) as an advanced student.  Jim's personality and teaching style is very inviting and non-threatening to his students, and he quickly develops a rapport with them that brings out their best.  Make no mistake, he IS a professional musician and can take his student well into college-level piano study.  When our son was visiting a well-known university for music as a high-school junior, we were invited to sit in on a 3rd year music theory class.  Jim had already taught him the concepts being discussed that day, and our son was able to answer most of the questions posed by the professor.  He went into college well prepared in both music theory and piano, his primary instrument in college.  Much of the credit for this goes to Jim.  Our son was also prepared for college in sight-reading, composition, MIDI and improvisation to name a few.  Jim did not require recitals, but provided our son performance opportunities.
