They are very good, and excellent. The staff and vets are very friendly, and very good at what they do. The prices are very good, and the vets are excellent. The one thing that I like about them, is that they have a lot of animals, and they find homes for all of them. The staff is very good, and takes them for walks. Their prices are excellent, no matter what you have done.

My wife initially went alone to the humane society as I was busy that morning. She went with the intention of meeting a 3 year old Schnauzer who ended up being very sick. She instead met the dog we ended up taking home. The staff are all extremely helpful and the adoption process was a breeze. Every question we asked was answered and I will definitely go back when we decide to get another one.

On July 2nd, a friend of mine brought a beautiful pure bred female boxer to my apartment. She had found the dog at a major road intersection in the Dairy Queen parking lot off of 71st and Keystone. The dog had no tags or microchip and looked to be hungry and very dirty ( not to mention it was storming out) I immediately took her in, I have rescued 4 dogs now and found them homes, and I could not turn away the sweet face. That same day, we posted all over Facebook on all the social media sites and rescues we could find and contacted the two local Humane Societies ( as well all know she could have come from anywhere). After the first day. To make a long story short I very quickly realized why Ginger( what we named her) did not have a home…in the 5 days I had hers she literally ate thru 2 metal dog crates, 4 sets of blinds, and a door frame. She has severe separation anxiety, and I being single could not be with the dog 24/7. Ginger had met my family, my 9 month old nephew and had great interaction with many other dogs, however was unable to be alone.

This morning I made the hard decision to take Ginger to the Humane Society before she hurt herself, and before I personally incurred more damage to my apartment. Very sadly my friend Liz and I brought her up to the Hamilton County Humane Society at 8am on July 9th. Neither of us live in Hamilton Count currently, however I was a resident for 15 years of my life attended high school elementary school and my family still resides there. When Liz and I walked in there was no one in the Administrative Office, but as we stood there looking sad with Ginger in tow asked a young lady for assistance when she came out to feed the kittens that were in the front lobby.

After a few moments a pregnant female came out and quickly asked what we needed and Liz stated that we needed to surrender the dog that we had brought with us. The Employee very hastily and harshly asked for our licenses ( both of which have an Indianapolis zip codes) and gave them back immediately and said “We can’t take her.” We were both visibly upset about the situation and the woman we were speaking to was downright abrasive. I then asked what my options were since and she said “ you have to take her to Indianapolis” I responded with that they were not opened until Thursday, and she said “ I don’t know their hours of operation” then we stood there dumbfounded by her rudeness and she handed us the phone number for the IACC. I honestly have never felt so and quot;judgedand quot; in my entire life.
I know surrendering a dog is not something to be proud of. We came to Hamilton County Humane because of the reputation, because it is a “No Kill” shelter and because not only am I a member of Angie’s List and recognized they had Super Service Award, but I am also an employee of Angie’s List. I regularly am looking for and supporting local businesses who are present and have been reviewed

Not only was it difficult to hand over Ginger but I felt that there was no care gone into WHO she was which would have aided in her adoption. We were able to rescue the dog off of a busy street, give it a safe loving home for a week, and make the hard decision to give up the dog in hopes it could find a home that could give it everything it needed. We thought we were doing something good and reached out for help and were just turned away as if we and the pup didn't matter.
I know people have bad days, and I cannot imagine that her job is easy, however her customer service not only did not help an already difficult situation but completely changed my view of your operation.

Our experience there was great. The price compared to everybody else was right in line. It was a little crowded. They were very systematic about how they did things, there wasn't a lot of wasted time. You get in there, you sign your name, drop your animals off and either they would call you or give you a specified time to come back. The vet spends time with you to discuss issues.

We would highly recommend it. Rather than going out and buying from a pet store, we would encourage people to go and adopt. We would use them again in the future.

HUMANE SOCIETY FOR HAMILTON COUNTY

Humane Society for Hamilton County, is awesome! They are a no kill shelter, they are over capacity right now and they are really looking for homes. They don't turn away animals and need more volunteers. When we got our dog there was a fee, I try to take towels and things to them when I can. If you do adopt there is a fee that covers their shots and their micro chipping. They really, really do work hard, they really care for the animals and do their best to find them a home. They go above and beyond to find homes for the animals and the people that work there are angels.
